About Judi

After the hustle and bustle of city life in Houston we fulfilled a dream to move to the peaceful Rocky Mountains of New Mexico and build a log home on property purchased some years before. We had a good 10 years at this property as our home. In 2002 we became missionaries to Africa and have lived there the better part of the last 10 years. See Help4HopeAfrika.org When we are home and house is rented we may be found in the bunk room apartment downstairs. Otherwise we are away traveling and speaking to raise support for our Africa work.

Judi purchased this lodge in 1991

Why Judi chose Cloudcroft

We built this house in a secluded area in the Lincoln National Forest as a haven for us and for our friends and family.

What makes this lodge unique

Every aspect of Livin Hi is a story. You will see evidence of travels around the world. If you are a hunter or just enjoy being in a 'hunting lodge' you will enjoy Livin Hi! There's even a Victorian room and bath to make the ladies happy! The view from the 35 foot long covered upper and lower decks fill you with awe of God's creation. Bask in the sun on the large balcony off the master bedroom. You will not be disappointed and will never be able to take it all in! A jewel in the rough!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Judy, We wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our time in your home! It was so comfortable and interesting. my children spent a lot of time looking up animals in books and internet to identify each one there. It was the perfect place for us. We spent most of our time there, went into Cloudcroft for dinner one night. We saw about 20 turkeys in the yard most days and after putting out some corn, came home to between 35 and 40 elk in the yard. One day we went to the national observatory and drove over to Bluff

Springs and counted more than 100 elk on that drive. We had a fun , relaxing time to remember while our son is in Afghanistan. It was very hard to leave him but we sure enjoyed our visit with him and so did he, and your beautiful place helped make that possible.

Thanks so much for sharing your home!

An Amazing holiday

  • 5 of 5

We decide to take a Holiday vacation for New Years, we have never been in Cloudcroft NM We were looking for a peaceful place, to reconnect with our daughters and family. I have no words to express how wonderful time we have, it was beyond what we expect. Super cozy cabin, very nice accommodations, unbelievable views. Since I made the reservation, everything went just right, it was the first time we use the service and I have to tell I was very impress with the quick response and the kindness of Ms. Springberry. We enjoy the outdoors activities and the kids play with the snow many many hours. It was great. God Bless you Mr. and Mrs. Springberry for sharing with home with our family.

Amazing views while in an amazing home!

  • 5 of 5

Space for many members in our family gave us a chance to bond in a real home atmosphere. Big, fully-outfitted kitchen made it possible for us to dine like kings. We soaked up inspiring views in the great outdoor space & huge porch. You will want to return soon.

Outstanding Location and Beautiful Views

  • 5 of 5

This mountain views is really centrally located for fun trips all around the area. Just a few places we went to while there, Carlsbad Caverns, White Sands National Park, and Alamogordo. In additional the views from the cabin are beautiful no matter which direction you looking. GREAT star gazing at night, you might want to bring a telescope, but even without one you will be amazed.

The wildlife you will be able to see just from the deck of the cabin is really cool as well; Elk, Turkeys, and Hummingbirds where just a few we saw.

I do believe for our group we used all the sleeping areas and everyone sleep great. Also everyone enjoyed all the things to see within the home. One can spend a day just going from room to room learning all about the items there.

Overall, this is a wonderful place to stay with family and/or friends or just for a getaway place for two.

Refreshing beauty

  • 5 of 5

Living Hi is the most beautiful, relaxing place in this country that our family has stayed. Our bodies and spirits are refreshed by relaxing on the porch, hiking the canyon, and relaxing on the porch once again! The house is clean and well-maintained and has all the amenities, plus and is an easy place to stay. The surrounding area is gorgeous, with indigenous forests, animals wandering through, birds popping in and soaring over, and sky views that are lovely both on rainy days and clear. The quaint town of Cloudcroft is an interesting town to browse, with interesting stores and shopkeepers. I would highly recommend Livin Hi Lodge.

Livin Good ant Livin Hi

  • 5 of 5

Our vacation goal, for my 50th birthday celebration, was to go ATV riding and stay in a secluded mountain cabin surrounded by nature. Livin Hi Lodge lived up to our expectations and provided delightful unexpected surprises every day.

My wife and I found this a unique destination due to the richness of treasures hanging on the walls and the fact that we were able to use somebody’s precious home for a vacation filled with adventures, nature, peace, and quiet. On the walls are mounted animals, furs, photographs, and other home décor from places around the world that most will never dare to venture. Each time we sat back and relaxed we spotted something new and interesting.

ATV riding begins from the driveway and extends onto the gravel county road to the nearest trail head which is two miles from the lodge. The trails are well marked and cared for. We ran out of time long before trails. Two of the days we rode 40 plus miles. The trails offer views and wildlife, but one need not go far to get the best views of the wildlife. Each morning nearly two dozen elk visited the lodge property and there was the occasional precious moment of watching the elk calves nursing. The resident cats Muffin and Oreo are a loving and social pair, but they are far from wild. Colorful birds of all kinds visited the feeders and potted flower garden on the deck.

The master bed was more comfortable than our own, so naturally we slept better here. Contributing factors were definitely the peace and the quiet. We left the bedroom windows open every night, and consequently morning brought the gentle sound of elk chewing the grass below. It was that quiet.

Thank you Judi and Jack for sharing your home.

Exceptional Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Have stayed at this home a number of times over the years....I can only promise you will be blown away (in a positive sense) by the setting, the house and the complete atmosphere. Nestled among the pine trees at 9,000 feet, the only thing you hear is the wind whistling through the trees. Treat yourself to at least a few days, and plan to do nothing but sit back and enjoy the peace, quiet and stunning scenery. Or, there are plenty of things to do as side trips. The house is equipped with any and everything needed for a restful stay.
