COTTAGE LOCATED IN A BIRDING AND FISHING PARADISE

Tallahassee Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, sleeps 5-7

Do you want to have your morning coffee and watch the sun come up while sitting on the front porch listening to the birds sing; away from the noises of city life, traffic and stress? Then this is the place for you. Our Wakulla Springs Retreat is located on 5 secluded acres of hardwood trees off the beaten track but close to the Tallahassee-St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail (15 miles of a beautiful paved bicycle corridor), Wakulla Springs State Park, the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, the Apalachicola National Forest, the San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park in the town of St. Marks at the confluence of the beautiful St. Marks and Wakulla rivers, the Felburn Foundation Playground with covered picnic tables and a fabulous array of playground equipment.

There are several excellent sea food restaurants close by so you don’t have to spend your time cooking. Only 3 miles from the Retreat is Savannah’s.(home of the famous breakfast and a great country buffet at lunch and dinner). We have plenty of room for boaters to bring their boats to the Retreat. There are several public and private boat ramps within 15 minutes of the Retreat, giving you access to the Gulf of Mexico and local rivers. Downtown Tallahassee and Florida State University are only 15 miles from the Retreat and Wakulla Springs State Park (home of one of the largest and deepest freshwater springs in the world) is only 6 miles from the Retreat. If the Wakulla Springs Retreat is booked during the dates you want it, please see our sister site, St. Marks Retreat, VRBO site #63806, on the St. Marks River.

COZY GETAWAY IN "THE BIG BEND" AREA OF FL

Cozy getaway in "The Big Bend" area of FL
  • 5 of 5
We took our family - mom, dad, two kids 11 and 14 and the mother in law - for six nights to visit the area. This cozy cabin had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Comfy beds, a pullout sofa bed for one of the kids, excellent cable and wi-fi, washer/dryer, A/C and heat (we ended up needing both due to changing spring weather), good hot water, strong shower pressure (there's also a tub), outdoor deck with grill, nice front porch with rockers to have a glass of wine or cup of coffee and watch the rain come down or listen to the birds. No dishwasher. Location is off a dirt road 15 miles south of Tally, near many of the places we wanted to visit. We saw deer and other wildlife. You can easily ride to the St Mark bike trail. Decent restaurants around. Recommend Savannah's, Dickeys BBQ, the inn at a Wakulla Springs, Wells Brothers (Monk's) for gourmet burgers in Tally, and Up the Creek in Apalachicola. From our base we visited FSU, Mission San Luis, Wakulla Springs, Estuary museum in Eastpoint and Apalachicola (amazing oysters yum) as well as the Florida Caverns Park two hours away (but the time changes west of the Apalachicola River so you arrive about an hour after you leave!) Owners are locals and were excellent to work with. It was a perfect place for our family trip.

WAKULLA SPRINGS CABIN RENTAL

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I chose to celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary in Florida but didn't want all the high rise condos and endless traffic snarls. He found this cabin in Wakulla Springs and it was perfect! We were 15 minutes from everything we wanted to do- biking (bring your road bike and your mountain bike so you can ride the St. Mark's Rails to Trails paved road or the numerous non-paved bike trails in the area). We rented a kayak and went down the St. Mark's river where the wildlife was abundant and the river was absolutely gorgeous. We rode bikes through the largest game preserve in Florida and photographed a number of animals and reptiles. At Wakulla State park we hiked the trails and enjoyed dinner in the 1937 lodge- don't miss this landmark! For families with children, there is an enormous and very new looking playground less than a mile from the cabin. The cabin was extremely clean, located in a quiet spot in the woods and had everything we needed. If you want a relaxing vacation in a part of Florida that is completely untainted by commercial development, this is THE place to be.

Owner's Response: We are so happy that you found us and celebrated your anniversary with us. Thanks for mentioning all the special things you were able to do while in our area. We are so blessed to have the Tallahassee to St. Marks Trail minutes away from the cabin and the playground for young children. You came prepared to enjoy all of the beautiful natural setting we have all around us. With all of the dogwoods blooming in the woods it is delightful to be outside on all of the various trails. We hope you will return to visit with us again.

Our family of four enjoyed our weekend at Wakulla Springs Retreat immensely. The recommendations for local attractions were wonderful. The retreat is very well kept, clean and well maintained. We hope to stay at the retreat again in the near future!

PERFECT GETAWAY!

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I just spent 4 excellent nights at the Wakulla Springs retreat, and we couldn't have been more pleased.

I'll start with the owners: extremely friendly, helpful, and responsive! They answered all of our questions very promptly and all of the tips and recommendations were spot on!

The Property/Cottage: VERY clean and well maintained - all pictures in the website were very accurate. Its nothing pretentious and was just what we wanted - a cottage in the woods away from everybody and the hustle and bustle of South Florida where we live. That said, it is very convenient to hiking, biking, fishing, boating, etc. We hiked and mountain biked several times and the location was just perfect - remote but only about 10-15 miles from Tallahassee. A great location for people who enjoy the outdoors.

Our days went like this: morning coffee/breakfast on the front deck, mountain biking in the morning(several great local trails), hiking in the afternoon(with a nap in between), and then BBQ or seafood at night. What else does anyone need??

We couldn't have been more pleased with this rental and recommend the property and the owners to all!

GREAT PROPERTY FOR A FAMILY OR A COUPLE.

  • 5 of 5
What a perfect property in Wakulla!! Cozy, but with just enough room for our family of 7, this quiet retreat was a blissful escape from a hectic weekend with our extended family. The owners were gracious, and there was wireless Internet! A great addition.

We come to Florida once or twice a year and we will never stay anywhere else.

Owner's Response: We are so happy that you chose our quiet Retreat for your stay in Florida. It is, as you have said a great place to sit back and unwind from the hectic life that most of us live. Sitting on the front porch at night watching the fireflies or watching the hummingbirds as they come to feed in the daytime is so relaxing. Our place as become the "gathering place" for families who want to meet in the middle and have a place enjoy each other's company. Grandmas and Grandpas get to spend quality time with their children and grandchildren without the worry of getting everything ready for the visit. We do the getting ready and have the Retreat spic and span with all the essentials of home. Restaurants are close by if you do not choose to cook or grill out on the back deck. The bike trail is two minutes away and the beautiful playground with picnic tables are perfect for a quick outside activity. Wakulla Springs is only minutes away for those who want to see alligators and other wildlife up close or for those who want to swim in the beautiful clear spring water. The Lodge at Wakulla has a super restaurant for lunch or dinner. Savannah's is buffet style with great prices. Our area is filled with birding, hiking, fishing and just beautiful quiet country roads. We look forward to having you back with us when you come back to Florida.

GREAT PROPERTY

  • 5 of 5
I love this place! I was not expecting such a great cottage. In the middle of the woods and well worth it. You need to relax, it’s here, you need to bird watch, it’s here, need to spend time with family, it’s here. The only thing we had to get for the cottage was groceries, they had everything else. Fully furnish and cleaners, laundry detergent etc, all was included. I will definitely use this property again when visiting Tallahassee. Only 25 – 30 min. out of the city. We really enjoyed ourselves at this location. This place made my daughters graduation even more special.

Owner's Response: We very much appreciate the kind words from our guest. She. and one other guest, are the only people who washed all of the sheets and towels, without any obligation to do so. It was quite a treat to find the cottage in such a beautiful condition. It is guests like this that make renting the Wakulla Springs Retreat a true joy.
