We will now take reservations for all weeks in Summer 2015. Our major construction/renovation project is now in the final completion process. We expect that the final completion date of our current construction/renovation will be Spring 2015. In essence, we built a new house underneath our existing cottage.
Our new lower level walk-out will add two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, an additional living area, a wet bar and a laundry area to the main cottage. We will also have an outdoor natural gas barbeque and an outdoor shower.
Our 2.3 acre property with 186 feet of direct Lake Michigan frontage with direct walk out to the water is in the historic Pierport community halfway between Manistee and Frankfort. Our beachfront is a direct walk out (no steps) to a beautiful sandy flat Lake Michigan beach. It is possible to walk both north and south, on this lovely beach north to Arcadia and south to Onekama. Our property also includes a small stream which flows out to Lake Michigan through a wooded part of our property and a large flat yard perfect for all types of lawn games. A large firepit area and romantic swing overlook Lake Michigan's special sunsets.
The main house will now include: two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a living area with a wet bar on the lower level, two bedrooms and one full bath, living/dining room, and renovated kitchen with dishwasher on the main level, and there are two bedrooms and a half bath upstairs. The newly enclosed screen porch on the main level has additional seating and a dining table overlooking Lake Michigan.
A separate guest house is fully self contained with one bedroom and a queen sofa bed in the living room and a kitchen with all new stainless steel appliances. It also has a living/dining room, full bath with whirlpool tub and washer/dryer. It is great place for family members who would like a bit more privacy. It was totally redone in 2011.
There is a flat screen HDTV in each house. Both cottages have fireplaces. WiFI/Internet is provided.
The main house is a classic Lake Michigan cottage originally constructed in 1889. There is a pretty wooded area across the stream from both cottages. Woodlands are also across the street.
This is a beautiful waterfront setting and a perfect place to enjoy a classic Pure Michigan summer. We live here in the Spring and Fall of each year. We only rent for 10-12 weeks in the summer. We do not rent for weekends or during the other seasons of the year.
Additional pictures are available on request.
Property comes fully furnished with bed linens, towels, beach towels, dishes, silverware and cooking utensils.
Furnished with classic cottage furniture and some antiques.
The Lake Michigan sunsets never cease to amaze.
We spent three years looking for a Lake Michigan waterfront property and were fortunate to find this very special property. To preserve the serenity, we do not allow jet skis/personal watercraft on the property.
David W. and Kathryn Bisbee purchased this cottage in 2011
This beautiful Lake Michigan beachfront property is flat and accessible with no steps down to the beach. We really liked having the two separate cottages. The main cottage was built in 1889, but we have just added a new lower level with more bedrooms and bathrooms. The adjacent separate Carriage House was redone in 2011 with a modern kitchen.
Several of Northwest lower Michigan's wonderful smaller towns (Onekama, Frankfort, Arcadia and Bear Lake are located within a 10-20 minute drive. The small towns of the Leelanau Peninsula (Leland, Northport and Suttons Bay) are easily accessible within an hour. Sleeping Bear dunes and Traverse City are only an hour north. Arcadia Bluffs Golf Course (Michigan's #1 public course) is only five minutes north.
We just wanted to let you know that our stay at "your little piece of paradise" was a welcome respite.
We feel very blessed to have had this opportunity.
Our eyes just could't get enough of Mother Nature's Delights. You have an awesome place here!
The accommodations were fantastic! Love the character of the place too. It speaks to your soul.
Loved, Loved, Loved our stay.
We enjoyed the quaint environment of the cottage and guesthouse with extended family. The cottage and carriage house fit three families with ease. The cottage retains its rustic charm while providing modern amenities. The carriage house is beautifully renovated. The outdoor space is expansive and perfect for cocktails and activities. We enjoyed the easy access to the beautiful private beach from our backyard. The fire pit was the perfect spot to roast marshmallows and watch the sun set. The area had plenty of biking and hiking trails and three second to none golf courses. We can't wait to return.
We had two families (8 people) in our party that stayed at this property and there was plenty of room to spare. The guest house was perfect for our family with small children and the large house with the screened in dining porch was great for everyone to get together at dinner time.
The houses both were problem-free, very clean, and nicely appointed. The view from the screened in porch is amazing, and at night with the windows open you can hear the waves on Lake Michigan and the brook that runs past the house. Perfect for sleeping!
The grounds are large and well-maintained. There is plenty of room for running around, playing croquet or horse shoes (both are provided on premises) and the beach is a short walk down a nice plank path. There are plenty of trees for shade and a wonderful path along the brook that my 5 year-old daughter just loved. The fire pit on the way to the beach was a big hit, there is nothing like watching the sunset with a crackling fire and then waiting for the stars to come out.
The beach is fantastic, there is a lot of private frontage. Each evening we walked the length of the beach to a distant point, about an hour round-trip, and it was a perfect way to wind down a day.The coast is reminiscent of Oregon, it feels somewhat wild, with evergreen trees bumping up against the sand and the occasional deer coming down for water.
There is plenty to do within a short drive of the house. We are into exploring local food options and we found several great farms, farm-stands, and farmers' markets. There is also great fishing nearby and the Sleeping Bear dunes are a short drive away.
All in all, we loved our stay here and highly recommend it. We look forward to going back!
We had a wonderful vacation at your home! Thanks so much for sharing it with others!
Again thanks so much! We made memories with family & friends to last a lifetime!
A great spot on Lake Michigan with a beautiful beach right outside the door. A place to go with kids or just the adults. The grounds of the property are well maintained and afford plenty of privacy. Our kids spent hours playing in the lake, on the beach, and in the natural spring stream that cuts through the sand into the lake. When they needed a break from the sand/sun, the property around the cottage has enough yard for a game of football, wiffle ball, frisbee etc.
We have stayed in this cottage in years past and must say that the new owners have done a wonderful job modernizing the place, yet maintaining the cottage feel. The guest house (aka carriage house) is entirely brand new inside and a great place for additional guests.
A convenient bonfire area was cleared out within the seagrass. A perfect place for enjoying the sunset while roasting marshmallows and for viewing the stars after darkness settles in.
We loved the place. Hated to leave and come back to "reality".
The closest small towns to Pierport are Onekama to the south with several good restaurants, tennis courts, a library, a bank and a grocery store. Bear Lake to the east has several grocery stores, a bank, library and a good breakfast restaurant. Arcadia is just 5 minutes north and has the Arcadia Bluffs Golf Course (best public course in Michigan) and an excellent restaurant.
Manistee is 20 minutes to the south has a hospital, restored downtown movie theatre, casino, airport with service to Chicago, several large grocery stores and a nice river walk. Frankfort is 20 minutes to the north and has a wonderful local cinema, a hospital, the Gwen Frostic studio and a large grocery store.
About an hour north on M-22 are the Leelanau Peninsula and Sleeping Bear Dunes (voted the most beautiful place in the United States by Good Morning America viewers).
Traverse City is also an hour north with numerous attractions, festivals, theatre, great shopping, excellent restaurants and several multi-screen cinemas. Downtown Traverse City is really a special place for shopping and entertainment. On the way to Traverse City on US 31 is the vintage Cherry Bowl drive-in movie theatre.
There are also several local farm stands on M-22 and weekly farmer's markets in Elberta (Thursday), Onekama (Friday) and Frankfort, Manistee and Traverse City on Saturdays.
