Downtown shopping, restaurants, museums and live theater in the historic Ramsdell Opera House are all about ten minute's walk. All summer long there are jazz concerts at the beach and band concerts along the river.

We would definitely stay here again. The owner has clearly gone to great lengths to make sure guests feel at home at this property. The house was very clean, beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked and the games, DVDs and small library of books were a nice addition. The shaded, fenced back yard was a great place for our boys to play. We loved being able to walk to town and the riverwalk (we could have walked to the beach, too, but usually drove). The beaches in town are very nice, as is the nearby bird santuary. We took several side trips, too (Arcadia, Frankfort, Traverse City, Glen Arbor). If we ever return to Manistee, this property will be at the top of our list.
I would like to second the previous review, that this place is even better than advertised. It is exceptionally clean and well-maintained. The décor is beautiful and charming, reminding us of staying in a bed and breakfast. We were surprised by how truly well-stocked the kitchen was. We have stayed in other homeaway/vrbo properties and never had as many nice small appliances or pots and pans that were in such excellent condition. The owner was helpful and prompt with booking the property, and I am sure she would have also been very responsive if we had needed anything during our stay....happily though we needed nothing and everything was great throughout our stay. The location is also just as exceptional as advertised. We walked to the beach several times, where three playgrounds are located or nearby. The Riverwalk was closer to the cottage then we expected and made for a beautiful walk to the beach or downtown, which we also did a couple of times. We also spent a couple days each in Ludington and up at Sleeping Bear, both within easy driving distance. We would recommend this cottage to anyone considering vacationing in Michigan and hope to stay there again.
For anyone who loves the beach but also wants the small town atmosphere, Manistee is the perfect location. I loved vacationing there when I was young, and now my family loves it as well. We have been staying in this home for the past 2 years and could not have picked a better place. The location is a short walking distance to the beach, several playgrounds, the river walk, as well as to downtown Manistee. The home itself is exceptionally clean and well maintained.
We have 4 children and find it very spacious and not crowded. The owners are
very helpful and have done everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. The kitchen is large and well stocked (including a dishwasher), the beds are
really comfortable (unlike most hotels), and the front yard is the perfect place
to enjoy a quiet evening outside. I would highly recommend anyone who would
like a quiet, affordable, and relaxing vacation to consider this vacation home.
This cottage was a GREAT deal. It was clean, well-maintained and located within walking distance of both the beach and downtown. The breakfast restaurants in the area are great and we even found a gym only 7 minutes away. The kitchen was very large and well-stocked with everything we needed. There was a gas grill in the back yard that we used frequently. The owners provided exceptional cusomer service -- they have even agreed to send back (free of charge) items that we left behind. Ofen pictures viewed on-line make a rental appear better than it really is -- this was NOT the case with this little blue cottage. It came better than advetised, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a relaxed, easy vacation away from crowded resorts.
We loved this cottage! We are so glad we ended up in Manistee! We had never been to Michigan and preferred a small town with charm. The location of this cottage was perfect. You can walk one direction and you are at the beach where we would watch the sun set. You walk the other direction and you are at the river walk, where we hooked up at the marina for our charter fishing trip. The house was clean and maintained with a large back yard where we ate a couple of meals at the picnic table. The owner is so nice, he even provided an extra bike for my son when I told him we like to ride bikes! I would much rather stay in this cottage than the cookie cutter condos across the way! If we make it back to Michigan, I would stay here again!
When we arrived to the house we rented we were so pleased to find it in the middle of all the action for Forest Festival weekend. We could walk to the beach for the fireworks, two blocks to the parade and one block behind the house was the beautiful riverwalk.
The house was clean and well maintained. The decor was simple and classy. It was like going home for vacation.
We loved the big kitchen and huge fenced in back yard.
I highly recommend this house to anyone going to Manistee. If you want to park your car for the week and live a simpler life reserve this place! The owners were very easy to work with and we had no isseue.
A five minute walk and you will be in the historic business district of the Victorian Port City--Manistee. Enjoy the quaint shops along River Street and admire the architecture of the buildings in the downtown area. Take a stroll on the 'River Walk' accessible between the US-31 drawbridge and Lake Michigan. Enter the River Walk about a half block from the cottage. Plan a day or two at the beautiful Lake Michigan beaches in the area. If the lake is not appealing, try tubing, kayaking, or canoeing on the Manistee River. If fishing is your passion this area is the largest fishery in Michigan for salmon and steelhead. Many charter opportunities available by the 1/2 day or full day. River charters also available, If you prefer to golf there are 12+ beautiful courses within a 45 mile radius including Arcadia Bluffs (Golf Digest, #10 in US). Join Us for the National Forest Festival in July or the Christmas Sleighbell Weekend in December. Spend your time doing the things you love to do. The list is endless.
