The Tale of A Mermaid is located on Beach Road in Nags Head across from the Nags Head Fishing Pier with great beach access. Completely renovated and remodeled for the 2012 season. Amenities include: HVAC, cable, WiFi, fully equipped kitchen, screened porch, deck, outdoor shower w/ hot & cold water, washer & dryer, charcoal grill, picnic table & outside seating.

  • * 50% deposit needed to reserve requested dates. Remaining balance due 30 days prior to arrival.

    * CSA Travel Protection Policy is required at the rate of $49.00. This Property Damage Protection is to safeguard my Vacation Rental from damage and/or loss. This policy takes the place of a refundable security deposit.

    * Rates listed do not include the following taxes as required by the State of North Carolina: 6.75% NC State Tax and 5% Dare County Occupancy Tax. (Total taxes 11.75%)

    *For a stay of 3 nights or less, add a $75 cleaning fee. Partials can be made if not rented by the Thursday prior.

    *This is a NO smoking cottage, *Sorry...NO pets!, *Check-in time is 4:00pm and check-out time is 11:am
  • Cancellation Policy
    Once your reservation is confirmed by payment, you must notify us in writing if you are unable to occupy the unit. The guest is responsible for verifying that we have received the cancellation letter. Refunds are available, less a $100.00 service charge, only if the cottage is re-rented. If we are unable to re-rent the property, all payments will be forfeited. Refunds will be made to the guest within 30 days after the subsequent re-rent payment has cleared our accounts.

    Guests shall not be entitled to any refund or rebate due to illness, acts of nature, unfavorable weather, disruption of utility services, or any other situation occurring not under our control. Trip cancellation insurance is highly recommended to protect against unexpected events.

Perfect in every way! House was superbly clean, beautiful decor, and very convenient in location. This house has absolutely no downside and the owner was awesome in welcoming us and making sure we were happy. Two thumbs WAY up!

Tale of a mermaid was perfect for our 20th anniversary getaway. 4days wasn't long enough but staying at the house was SO much nicer than an run of the mill hotel room. The inside porch was perfect for evenings and the beach is just a walk across the street. Coming back from the beach, the outside shower helped get us cleaned up before going back inside. We used the provided grill and cooked a few meals in the kitchen. Everything we needed to feel comfortable was available and the owners answered our questions quickly and with courtesy. I genuinely hope we can return again!

Wonderful spot for a get away!

We enjoyed our stay at the Tail of a Mermaid in large part due to the thoughtfulness of the owner. She left us coffee and cookies, and the cottage was in impeccable condition. The beach access is across the street-a very short walk-with several restaurants and grocery stores near by.

The owner provided restaurant and activity recommendations to make our stay even more special. The space was very comfortable for our family of three, and we enjoyed having a kitchen to cook in. The washer and dryer were super convenient, and the fact that they were at the cottage meant we could pack less luggage.

There is a t-shirt shop/beach supply shop right next door. There is easy access to the main highway as well.

Thank you for a terrific rental!

My friend, Karen, and I were so pleasantly surprised with the adorable cottage that we rented in Nags Head! We had seen all of the online pictures, but could not really picture what we would find.

The cottage is better than the pictures. Across the street from the beach was the best location. The decor was perfect for a beack cottage. This "old" building is now all updated and done so well.
We had fresh flowers in several rooms and brownies and other treats to welcome us.
This place allowed us the quiet and comfort that we both needed.

Girls Get-away

This was the perfect beach cottage for a girls get-away! Everything about this place was simply charming. You can just tell how much tender love and care was put into this adorable abode. Just a block away from the beach, a short walk away from a cozy coffee shop, and other great attractions nearby. Would love to stay again!
