This vacation home offers the perfect blend of old and new. Walk to everything from shopping, grocer, golf, spa, theatre, parks, wine stores, lake, river and restaurants, or just stroll the charming neighbourhood. This is the vacation home for you! The modern kitchen and baths blend harmoniously with the wood plank floors, the claw foot tub and the super comfortable beds with high quality bed linens. You can cook or bringing home take-out to eat in the dining which is open to the kitchen and living room. Enjoy a bbq/grill-out on the patio while sitting in the garden! My special is early morning when I sip my morning coffee on the covered front veranda and watch the town wake up! Gate Street Cottage is the perfect gathering space for friends and family to unite! Perfect because you are together but have spacious bedrooms and each bedroom has its own bathroom. Enquire now and come and stay at Gate Street Cottage –build memories that will last a life time!

Gate Street Cottage is one of the most popular vacation homes in town! Why you ask? Location, charm, modern amenities, front porch, gardens and a bathroom for everyone! This is a fully modernized 100 year old cottage that is just a few steps from Queen Street, the main shopping, theatre, dining, parks and river area. The grocery store is almost at the end of your drive way! If you are a shopper then you can shop until you almost drop because your home-away-from-home is just a few steps away! Love the theatre; you can even walk there in your high heeled shoes! That’s how close it is! Now you are probably thinking maybe to close? Well this is a small town and not much excitement happens here other than the clip pity clop of the horse drawn carriages going by! This quiet quaint town is safe and charming and that is the way we like to keep it!

Not a shopper or a theatre buff? Then you still have lots to do at your door step! At the end of the street, literally a 2 minute walk is the oldest golf course in North America, Niagara-on-the-Lake Golf Club – better book your T-off times now! Also at the end of the street is a 5 star spa. The dining is amazing too, from chefs staring on the Food Network, to local family style dining, to shopping local at the all the food boutique shops and cooking it back at your vacation home, this is a foodie paradise!

Enter into Gate Street cottage from the covered front veranda and you step into a bright comfortable and spacious living area. The big screen TV is seldom used! The Living area is open to the the dining and fully modern well equipped kitchen! This is a shot gun style home because it’s a straight shot from the front door to the back! Go out the back door from the kitchen and there is a beautiful garden complete with patio furniture, deck and a bbq/grill! Also on the main floor is a beautiful huge bedroom with en suite. This is a room has super twin beds that can be converted into a comfy cozy King bed. Main floor laundry for those who feel compelled to do laundry on holiday – well at least its convenient for you and you won’t miss any of the action while doing your chores!

Upstairs offers the two other bedrooms both with ensuites. The front bedroom has a King bed, a lovely sitting area and lots of space to move around! The bath room has a standalone shower, and a claw foot tub, is perfect to relax in and soak your cares away! The other bedroom is a luxurious Queen bed with antique cabinet for the sink and a tub/shower combination.

We offer the luxury in bed linens so that you can get a wonderful relaxed sleep which is the perfect end to your day of exploring and enjoying this town while living like a local!

The gardens are professionally cared for and we have some herbs planted for you. Everything about Gate Street is specially designed, planned and done with you in mind. All you have to do is book it!

While I lived in Canada, Niagara-on-the-Lake was a favourite spot for me to reunite with my friends and family. Centrally located between two major airports, it was a convenient place to meet. Little did I know that in my first visit I would fall in love with this town! The feeling I have when I am here is one of joy, contentment and peace of mind. In any season there is a sense of wonderland about it!

But alas, my work has posted me abroad once again, so I am sharing my home-away-from-home with you! Please be my guest and make yourself comfortable! I would appreciate one thing though, if I might be so bold to ask? Please leave me a review on VRBO and tell me about your stay. I will enjoy Niagara-on-the-Lake vicariously through your postings!

I made my decision quickly to buy a home in Niagara-on-the-Lake and had a wonderful opportunity to purchase Gate Street Cottage. While it has good bones, it needed some TLC and I knew I was the one to bring this quaint cottage back to be a real gem. So through the tears, laughter and sweat, we managed to fully modernize the kitchens and bathrooms, tame the gardens, and uncovered all the treasures that Gate Street has to offer. My favourite thing to do is sit on the front veranda with a glass of wine and people watch while pretending to read a best seller!

I love not having to use my car at all when I am in town. How great is it to live in a very walkable community. When I want to be around people I walk one way, if I want to stroll by myself, its less than a 10 minute walk to the Commons and all the self interpretive trails while I head toward the Parkway! I have a love for the old and knew that I wanted to restore Gate Street Cottage so that it could be preserved and enjoyed for years to come. This meant a complete renovation but I save everything I could from the old plank flooring to the original clap board siding. The kitchen and bathrooms needed a complete overhaul and now offer the best of quality and convenience. There is a lot packed into this cottage for you to enjoy!

The back garden is my private oasis. This garden has been lovingly tended by the previous owner and she would be proud to see how well it has been kept and is still pretty much as she planted it! Come and explore my garden, it has a show of flowers all season long!

What makes a great rental – location? Amenities? the feeling like you are at home but different? This is what I had in mind when I did the renovations to Gate Street Cottage. I really thought long and hard about what a guest would like. I was also really wanted to maintain the feel of a home from the last century and be in harmony with the charm of my neighbourhood. This meant a quaint exterior look, beautiful gardens and a white picket fence! My beautiful gardens are professionally cared for and I have tried to keep a little herb garden going too. The front porch that is the full width of the house and is covered so that it can be enjoyed morning, noon or night, rain or shine! The perfect place for the morning cuppa or the afternoon cocktail! Or just chill out and people watch while you are pretending to read that book you brought with you! Upon entering Gate Street Cottage you still have the old wide plank floors that have been lovingly kept and flow throughout the main floor with an open concept living room, dining area and kitchen. The kitchen is modern with marble counter tops, stainless steel appliances and equipped with everything a cook would need to make a marvelous meal and keep the beverages at the perfectly chilled temperature! Gather around the dining table it’s big enough for all, or slip out the back door to the patio area with the bbq/grill – indoor or outdoor dining, your choice! Also on the main floor is a large bedroom with super twins that can be converted into a ultra comfortable king bed. The en suite bathroom has a shower in it.

Go the solid wood stairs to the upper level, and again you have hardwoord floors that that go into the two bedrooms. The front bedroom is a spacious room with a king bed and a sitting area. The en suite has the deep soaker claw foot tub and a separate shower (a really funky one where you can even listen to the radio). The other bedroom is at the back of the house, so it is perfect for those that like to sleep in! It has a queen bed with en suite that has a tub/shower combo.

So as if that isn’t enough to make Gate Street Cottage the perfect home-away-from- home we also have high quality bed linens, locally crafted soaps and shampoo, main floor laundry (but who does laundry on holidays??), free Wifi and wide screen TV. All that is missing is you!! So enquire now and see if we have availability! What a way to start planning your get away from it all holiday!
