Perfect getaway

Stayed: August 2012
Our stay at Thevine house was unforgettable. We stayed a week in August 2012, we were 2 couples and our 2 boys aged 10months & 3.5 years old. The owners were wonderful to deal with, they even provided us with a playpen to accommodate our baby and called us upon arrival to make sure everything was ok. The house is impeccable, with beautiful furnishings and of course stunning location with views of the ocean from every room. Everything is provided, from all the kitchen and barbecue tools to towels and cooler bags.
We rented a car for our stay and explored the island but most of the time we stayed at the house, enjoying the pool or nearby beaches all to ourselves. We found a nice beach near the house with nobody on it but us. My 4 year old loved going out on "adventures" hopping in the little boat and heading out to explore Moriah Harbour Cay. We saw Sting rays, star fish and even a sea turtle while hanging by the property dock.
The down side is that food is expensive, especially if you chose to dine out. But that is a shortcoming of the island. The few times we did eat out, we were very disappointed. We much preferred preparing our own meals, whether it was in the gourmet kitchen or out on the barbecue. Oddly, it was not easy to find fish. There was no fresh fish available but the locals pointed us to the little blue house where we found all the frozen fish we wanted. Once we got the food sorted out, it was smooth sailing. Not having to think about being on a hotel's schedule for meals was great, especially with little children where a day is still unpredictable.
My only advice would be to make sure you find out what the holidays are. We found out upon arriving on the Sunday afternoon that Monday was a holiday and nothing was open except for a couple of restaurants. Even the owner was not aware of this "new" holiday. We would probably get the fridge stocked with some food next time since the grocery store is closed by the time the flight arrives to the island. Look at the guest book, there's a lot of good tips and info from other travelers.
It was definitely worth the trip and we are looking forward to going back to Thevine house or as my son puts it "Our Beach House".. I only wish! :)
