L'ART DES AMIS- DELUXE PENTHOUSE W. SOUTH-FACING TERRACE/ MUSICIENS/ NICE

Musicians' Quarter Apartment Rental Photos and Description

1 bedroom, LR, kitchen, bath w. tub & shower, 2 balconies; sleeps 3

L'Art des amis (the art of friends) is a beautiful one-bedroom penthouse apartment on the 6th floor (7th U.S.) with a large south-facing terrace of a beautiful Belle Époque building in the Musicians Quarter in central Nice, 5 blocks off the beach, directly behind the Negresco Hotel. Step into the antique cage elevator and be swept up to a romantic vacation escape you will never forget! Facing south, warm sunlight floods the apartment from morning till sunset. French doors in the living room, kitchen, and bedroom open onto balconies where you will enjoy the breezes and rooftop views towards the sea. (That French flag you see fluttering in the distance tops the Negresco.) The art of personal friends is featured throughout.

Remodeled to bring it closer in feeling to the architecture of the Belle Époque period, the apartment features new wood flooring in the living room and bedrooms and period tile set in the entry and kitchen. The kitchen cabinetry has been completely replaced and matching wainscoting installed along with all new appliances and granite countertops. Step through the French door onto to balcony and enjoy petit déjeuner in the sun at your café table for two. Dishes, glassware, flatware, espresso maker and kitchen utensils are all provided should you choose to try your hand at Niçoise cooking. The living room features a black George Nelson-inspired couch for 3 and a comfortable modern 'lipstick' armchair. Flat screen TV, DVD, and internet access provided. The glass coffee table design is by Isamu Noguchi (1948), end tables by Eileen Gray (1927), and glove table lamp by Wilhem Wagenfeld (1924.) While this is actually an 'adult' apartment experience, children are welcome!

Suitability:
  • wheelchair accessible
  • suitable for elderly or infirm

Guestbook comments from the owner
We were three generations having holiday in Nice: grandmother, daughter and granddaughter in just 10 months. We knew we would spend a great deal of time outdoors in the wonderfull City, but also would enjoy indoor-life in the appartment we rented. L'art des amis seamed to be the right choise from the describsions in Homeaway pages. AND...it fullfilled all our expentations:-). The appartment was just as nice, beatiful, well equiped, and "french artistic" as the pictures and the describsions claimed. With the wonderfull, great balcony - sunlight from early morning till evening - the appartment was exactly what we had wished it to be. We had a wonderfull family vacation with 5 nights stay in Nice. Everything about having the keys and arrival/departing the appartment, were in the best hands of Sara Jane from Promholliday. She was very helpfull and kind. Since we arrived early in the day, and traveled with a baby she took care of us having the appartment some hours earlier than expected. She also were very helpfull when the internet-acces were out off order,- due to an unplugged wire;-)). A baby crib we rented, was placed in the appartment when we arrived and functioned just fine. We also were welcomed by a bottle of wine in the fridge;-).

All email corrspondance with the owner Don Corliss about payment and helpfull informations was a great pleasure.

We Can only give our best recommandations to this wonderfull "place in the sky" . We already are planning a new trip to Nice and we are absolutely sure that the place we want to stay in is in wonderfull L'art des amis.

We live in Seattle, Washington USA and when we are here, we are dreaming about our next visit to Nice. We are avid francophiles and do our French lessons everyday. Here's a link about us and our property: http://www.frenchentree.com/fe-wemadeit/DisplayArticle.asp?ID=781

Don Corliss and Franklin Reed purchased this apartment in 2011

Angels brought us to our 'dream in the sky!' Our finder Rebecca Russell was one (www.coteabode.com) and the Niçois selling agent the other. His name was Ange and he flew up the 7 flights of stairs to meet us there while we went up in the caged elevator. He had wings, because he met us at the top when the elevator arrived. We were captivated by the apartment's charm and views. You just know when it's right! More about our buying experience: http://www.frenchentree.com/fe-wemadeit/DisplayArticle.asp?ID=781

180 degree rooftop views and centrally located to walk to every area of Nice in minutes. Close to the grocery store. Close to a large park. Close to local restaurants. Peaceful neighborhood. Charming caged elevator and old-world charm. Seriously, what's not to love!

GORGEOUS APARTMENT! WE'RE MOVING IN!!!

Gorgeous apartment! We're moving in!!!
  • 5 of 5
It was a gorgeous and spacious apartment with lots of balconies and beautifully decorated. We loved this apartment and felt very comfortable there! The owner's gave us thorough instructions for the apartment as well as recommendations for restaurants which was so helpful. It was a perfect location; it was 5 blocks or so to the sea and lots of great restaurants, supermarkets and shops within walking distance from the apartment. Would definitely stay there again. Move over boys, because we're moving in!!!

GREAT ACCOMMODATIONS

  • 5 of 5
L'Art des Amis is a great apartment. The south facing balconies are relaxing places to sip local Provence wine. The apartment has all the amenities necessary for a pleasant stay. The bathroom is large and well designed, as so is the bedroom. This location is well situated in Nice, since most of the attractions are walking distance away. We had a very enjoyable stay and would definitely stay there again.

MY HOME IN NICE AWAY FROM HOME IN SEATTLE.

  • 5 of 5
The vacation: It's Nice! The Mediterranean, 6 blocks away, so much to see, enjoy, explore, discover. And the food and the restaurants...friendly people in the town - all equated to magic.
L'art des amis: spotlessly clean, enchanting views toward the ocean and hills; hostess who gave us the tour and explained how everything worked was friendly, helpful and charming. The building has a quaint elevator, which has been upgraded but retains it's 1920's charm. Perfection, perfection, perfection. We are already planning our return trip! I would recommend this to anyone.
A fellow South African lives in a palace in Monaco. I would suggest she consider L'art des amis for when she comes to Nice.
Seriously, I have been telling my friends about this penthouse, confident that they would fall under her spell. 7 stars out of 5. Mike and Deb, Seattle WA

WONDERFUL APARTMENT, FRIENDLY OWNERS BUT LESS SATISFACTORY SERVICE WITH LOCAL RENTAL AGENCY

  • 4 of 5
The apartment description and photos are all completely accurate. The apartment is beautiful and decorated in very good taste. It is located at a walking distance from the center of the city, in a quiet neighborhood with high historic and architectural interest, near the Matisse and Chagall museum. We discovered very good downtown restaurants, and enjoyed eating at the apartment. The owners were friendly and helpful when we contacted them, but, living afar, they have entrusted their property to a local rental agency, whose services proved less satisfactory. Even if we had reserved several months earlier, paid in full, and arrived in the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday in late October, the managers did not find time to greet us because they had "too many arrivals" scheduled on this day. We had to negotiate a while to have them leave the keys at the car rental agency where we were expected instead of the airport where they usually leave the keys (and this, even if our car rental agency was located much nearer from the apartment than the airport). As they hadn't told us about the electronic key which gave entrance to the building, we had to phone them to know how to get in. The apartment was clean enough, but the cleaning appeared to have been hastily done. The rental instructions were not in plain view but had been put among other things on the lower shelf of a bookcase, where we found them several hours later. All went pretty well for us afterwards, but the managers didn't contact us once during our one week stay to inquire about our needs. We emailed them before leaving to tell them where they could find the keys. In conclusion, we certainly recommend this apartment for its beauty and location, but we strongly suggest that the owners request their managers to improve their customer service. We have rented apartments (through VRBO and HomeAway) in several other European and North American cities, with better service everywhere else.

Owner's Response: I’d like to add a word of support for Prom’Holiday, our management team in Nice, and to address “expectations.” We purchased this apartment as our own little piece of vacation heaven. It is NOT part of a corporate web of apartment vacation rentals. We book each reservation personally through HomeAway.com from our home in Seattle. Prom’Holiday (Sara Jane Higgins and Laurent DeWeweire) is a small management company we’ve hired to greet our guests, clean, and maintain the apartment when we aren’t there. They are a warm, wonderful couple who will show you the apartment, answer your questions, and be available to you if you have problems during your stay. Other than that you are on your own to explore Nice and the surrounding area and create your own vacation adventure. They won’t be checking in on you.

We’ve set up two ways to obtain access and keys to the apartment from Prom’Holiday.
1) Arrange with Prom’Holiday two weeks in advance of your arrival to be met at the apartment at a specific time.
2) Those arriving during off-hours can arrange with Prom’Holiday to get the keys from a secured box at the Customer Service desk at the airport. (It’s a small airport. The Customer Service desk is in the lobby.)

If you are traveling to Nice by car and are not sure of your exact time of arrival you may want to consider arranging to drop your car off at the rental agency at the airport and picking up your key there at the Customer Service desk. This can be set up in advance with Prom’Holiday as explained above.

When you book your reservation we send you important information about the apartment that you should copy and take with you, everything from how to contact Prom’Holiday, to building entry, how to unlock the door, and even where to put the recycling! It’s very important that you read the information and follow the instructions prior to arrival. Then you can relax and enjoy your vacation in one of the most beautiful places on earth, the French Riviera.

CLASSY COMFY NICE APARTMENT

  • 5 of 5
L'Art Des Amis is classy, bright, clean & comfortable with a fully equipped kitchen and a beautifully tiled bath. The owners have provided everything a visitor needs. The red tiled roof views from the south facing terrace are stunning, a great place for breakfast and an afternoon glass of wine. A very nice bottle of wine was waiting for us when we arrived. The apartment is conveniently
located near a grocery, boulangeries, a patisserie, cafes and
restaurants. We walked to the beach, shopping areas, the
market and the Old Town. We enthusiastically recommend this apartment to friends, relatives and anyone who visits Nice. We found so much to do and see that a week was not enough. Wandering through the Old Town to enjoy the architecture, restaurants, shopping and people watching takes several days. We never tired of visiting the Coeurs Salaya to take in the sights, sounds and fragrances of the market stalls followed by a walk along the Promenade des Anglais next to the beautiful blue Mediterranean. An afternoon read/nap at the beach seemed appropriate before sipping a glass of Rose at a beachfront bar while watching the sun begin to set. We did enjoy the museums, and short bus trips to Menton, Monaco, Antibes (Picasso Museum & market,) and Villefranche. Relaxing at an outdoor cafe or restaurant, dining on wonderfully fresh and wholesome food served by friendly knowledgeable waiters ranked high on our list of favorite things to do. The suggested things to do in Nice provided by the owners will help you enjoy your stay at L'ART DES AMIS.

Car: not necessary

The apartment is in the Quartier Musiciens (Musicians Quarter) in central Nice, a well-kept, stylish, residential quarter 5 blocks from the sea and famous Promenade des Anglais- the perfect place to stroll as visitors have done for more than a century. The busy shopping/restaurant areas of rue Massena and Avenue Jean Medecin are 10-15 minutes on foot and the wonderful 'Old Town' a 20 minute stroll for dinner! Nearby on Boulevard Victor Hugo is the Jardin d'Alsace Lorraine, a quiet garden respite. Downtown terrain is basically flat which makes walking a pleasure!

A car is definitely not needed to enjoy your vacation in Nice. Train and bus service is easily available for visits to other wonderful Riviera sites and in addition Auto-Bleue, a short-term electric rental car service has autos available in the block next to the apartment. For information see their site at www.autobleue.org. At the top of the screen you can choose an English translation of the page.
