Kinloch Lodge is a natural haven located in the 'Meseta de los Pueblos', a cool and breezy plateau just 45 minutes south of Managua. The cabin stands on a hilltop within a small, family owned 10-hectare farm, surrounded by majestic trees and lush tropical vegetation - the perfect getaway for people who love nature. Enjoy bird-watching, walking or mountain biking along pleasant and colorful nature trails adorned by our local tropical greenery and coffee, bamboo, cacao, plantain, tangerine and orange groves.
Our lovely wood cabin has three comfy bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a dining room, as well as an open air terrace with barbecue facilities and a children's playground. Two bikes, DVD, linen and towels included.

Kinloch Lodge's strategic location, halfway between San Marcos and Jinotepe, allows you to enjoy a diversity of day-trips, less than an hour's drive from the cabin.
* Visit the nearby 'pueblos' of rich Chorotega cultural heritage, famous for their folklore, crafts and religious festivals.
* Drive up to the edge of the smoking cone of Santiago Volcano, one of only four on earth that maintain a constant pool of lava in its open crater.
* Swim in the clear and fresh waters of a spectacular lagoon inside the crater of the extinct Apoyo Volcano.
* Hike through the cloud forest of Mombacho Volcano Natural Reserve and canopy your way down.
* Walk the streets of Granada - a charming colonial city founded in 1524. Take a boat ride or kayak around the 354 islands that form the Archipelago Las Isletas, and admire its rich birdlife.
* Enjoy a good swim and eat fresh fish in the nearby beaches of Casares and La Boquita.
Staying at the Kinlock Lodge was superb! You can hear the birds in the morning, drink your early morning coffee while enjoying the magnificent beauty of the tropical lush that surrounds you. Be prepared to feel totally relaxed..... you will never want to leave! At night the evening breeze that later turns into sufficient wind make the micro-climate a comfortable temperature. You might even want to use a light blanket to get cozy.
Be sure to bring a good book for your leisure time, the owners will be more than happy to suggest places to visit and the small towns of Jinotepe and San Marcos are only 5 minutes away. Great towns to do "local watching" and to stack up on your market goods and watch how vendors sell their products at the open market place.
I am sure you will have a great time!!
We stayed the at lodge in August of 2013. The lodge has all the conveniences you would want with a rustic aura that makes it a charming get away. Since coffee plants need the protection of the forest canopy we were surrounded by coffee plants and a forest. The climate is refreshing and the evenings are cool (in July!). There was no din of air conditioning to interfere with the sounds of the forest. The lodge is screened as is the wonderful veranda. The veranda was our favorite place to relax and read. We did not watch television but there is an assortment of DVD movies available. The veranda is spacious and accommodates a large table where we often ate. The kitchen has everything to prepare your own meals. After breakfast we enjoyed exploring the paths and roads on the plantation. I was happy to practice Spanish at the market in Jinotepe 5 km (3 miles) from the “farm”. Your host and hostess can make sightseeing suggestions along with directions. Side note; if you go to the volcano Mombacho, make reservations for a seat on the jitneys that takes you to the top staging area. Take my word, you do not want to make that climb!
If you are considering retirement in Latin America, Kinloch Lodge would be an ideal place to take a “test run” of what expat living would be like. You will get the “full Monty” authentic experience. Nicaragua is as safe as it gets in Latin America and Kinloch Lodge is removed from touristy areas.
Can’t wait to go back.
Kinloch Lodge is situated on a hilltop in a coffeeplantage between Jinotepe and San Marcos It is like living among treetops. They are loosing their colour during nights and getting it back in the morning. The house itself is very pleasant and tastefull. Juan, the caretaker makes good food. The proprietor is very helpful and knowledgeable. All in all, very pleasant and recommendable.
If you´ve ever been to Managua, you know how it can be, hustle and bustle during the day and it can get quite hot and noisy, making it ...well...difficult to relax. But that´s the capital and being close to it makes it very practical if you have any business to take care of...and that was exactly my case!!. The perfect solution I FOUND HERE!!, stay strategically close but immersed in another universe, a greener, flowery, silent, peaceful, laid back place, where the rustling of the leaves in the surrounding tall and beautiful trees will put you to sleep and birds will wake you up in the mornings.
Concerning the facilities, incredible value for money. Not only clean, but beautifully decorated and furnished with a good sense of aesthetics. The owners are all Nicaraguan and they are super welcoming and friendly. Oh, and Juan the caretaker, guardian and helpful hand, he should be running for president!!, arriba Juan!!...and yes, he can also cook for you if you are nice and tip him well :D
We booked the Kinloch lodge for just two nights on our 2 weeks trip to Nicaragua. We loved it. We loved it so much we stayed there for 2 more nights. The lodge is very clean and very well kept. The kitchen has everything you need and more. There is also a big barbeque in the veranda. The master bedroom was quite impressive with high ceiling and tall windows.
The lodge is surrounded by magnificent trees in the middle of a coffee plantation. At 500m elevation it was always cool or just pleasantly warm even at the end of a dry season. We could easily spend hours on the veranda just watching birds and forest and simply doing nothing.
Juan, the caretaker, was very nice and helpful. He cooked for us and took care of cleaning and washing dishes. Juan is a great cook!
We will definitely stay at the Kinloch lodge again.

Beautiful coffee farm with precious wood lodge cabin. Lush and peaceful trails to walk, bike and bird-watch. Relaxing, laid back atmosphere in perfect harmony with nature. Excellent location for a great diversity of day tours to beaches, lakes, lagoons and volcanoes, among many other cultural and natural wonders of Nicaragua. At 2000+ feet above sea level and a 45 minute drive away from Managua, the location ensures proximity to the international airport and facilities of the modern, urban world, while providing an idyllic nature-friendly refuge away from the noisy traffic and humid heat of Nicaragua's capital city.
