Our beautifully appointed luxury villa/home lends itself to those looking for cosy & relaxing and peaceful accommodation to enjoy their stay in Madeira. We are located in Pombal, a very sought after area, at around 150m and therefore enjoying more than our share of beautiful clear sunny days, allowing you to enjoy our stunning sun terrace, wood barbecue and various outdoor dining areas overlooking the Atlantic ocean. Accommodation: 3 double bedrooms, 1 en suite plus large family bathroom, each bedroom has its own terrace with sea, village and mountain views, tastefully decorated and appointed. Ground floor: cloakroom, dining room seating 6 but perhaps you would prefer a candlelit dinner for 2. Substantial well equipped kitchen for those like us who enjoy sourcing local, competitively priced fresh produce and creating their own delicious meals. The panoramic sea views from the lounge create a relaxing place to read from our library and for the family.
Yes we enjoyed ourselves so much last year, relaxing, walking and generally enjoying this beautiful island - we are back again for 2 weeks. This is not a holiday it is like having your own home around you in a different part of the world. Hope to see you again next year.
We had a wonderful time on Madeira. We enjoyed the nature as well as the perfect accommodation. It's a great house with everything one could need. We liked the location: very quiet, but at the same time it was only a short drive to Funchal or the mountains. We did some great hiking tours and especially enjoyed dolphin watching. (We were lucky enough to see a little dolphin calf - so cute! If you get a chance, go with the Ventura Do Mar. It's a small sailboat that has a knowledgeable marine biologist on board.) All in all it was - as we expected - a very relaxing time.
This was our first holiday in Madeira and the first time we have rented directly from an owner.
We had a great two weeks recently. The weather was superb and the villa clean, comfortable and well furnished and as described with fantastic views over the sea. Rosemary and Roger (the owners) were very helpful providing information and answering questions prior to our arrival. One small problem we had on arrival was quickly resolved following a phone call.
Many evenings were spent on the terrace having dinner overlooking the sea. We recommend the Calheta beach area to wander along or go swimming. It had a good atmosphere and we also used the supermarket there and found prices significantly better than our local supermarket with fillet steak half the cost of the UK and an extensive fish counter. We had a great meal in Restaurante Cantinho da Madalena on the main road through Madalena do Mar, just a shame we discovered it on the way home. Walking the levadas is great (but check for the high ones if you get vertigo). We also loved the ridge walk on a clear day at Pico do Arieiro, although we didn't do all of it the views were really fantastic and worth the effort to get there.
The only slight annoyance for us was the collection of dogs living across from the villa that had barking competitions, sometimes at night, but this did not spoil our enjoyment of the holiday.
If you hire a car we recommend you get something with some power as our 1.3 really struggled up some of the hills (sometimes in first gear).
All in all a great holiday in a well maintained villa, you won't be disappointed.
This was our second stay at Villa Rosa. Had a wonderful holiday despite some rainy days.
It's lovely to come back to a spacious, comfortable and well equipped villa at the end a days walking. We enjoyed sitting on the terrace in the late afternoon sun, looking over the banana plantations to the sea.
The villa was as clean and tidy as last year.
We will certainly stay here again if we come back to Madeira.
We have stayed in Madeira before, stopping in good hotels, however none were as good as our stay at Casa Rosa Atlantica. As another reviewer has already said, the photo's don't due the villa justice. The views from inside the sitting room overlooking the banana plantation and sea just got better as you go outside onto the large balcony. The living room is very large, easily coping with the three 3-seater settees. The kitchen is also large and well equipped - the biggest issue was the walk across from the kettle to cutlery draw, as it was across the room!
I took more photo's of the villa than I did of the levada walks we did! Very relaxing.
We can easily recommend the place the others and would be happy to stop there again.
"Everything about the villa and our stay was perfect.
The owner was very helpful in providing extra photos and information about the villa and directions to find it.
The villa was as described, clean and excellently maintained.
We would certainly be happy to book this villa again if we return to Maderia.
There is plenty of space both inside and out, good views over the sea, sunny situation and quiet.
Huge well equiped kitchen and good barbecue area."
My family and I have just spent an incredibly happy week at this villa. It is even better than the description and photos. The villa housed our family of 5 with ease and was extremely spacious, well furnished and superbly clean. Every meal was eaten on the terrace over looking the sea. The location was perfect as it is in the warmest part of Madeira and being on the hillside meant we got a welcome light breeze. Calheta was only a 5 minute drive away and we spent many happy hours on the sandy beach there. I am extremely happy to recommend this villa as all aspects of it were to a very high standard. Indeed, we were very sorry to leave at the end of the week.
Located within the peaceful, sunny south west coast of Madeira with easy direct motorway connection to and from Funchal and the Airport. Relax on the golden sandy beach at Calheta which maintains the traditional harbour for local fishing boats with access to sailing, big game and bottom fishing, whale/dolphin watching excursions, all coupled with its cafe and restaurant culture. Enjoy the experience of walking in the National Park or along the world renowned Levada systems with their fabulous variety of indigenous plants and flowers. Locally explore the local art gallery, lighthouse and naturally occurring aquamarine pools at Porto Moniz.
Our village and church square just 5 minutes walk provides the backdrop for a mid-morning coffee and cake on your way to the Post Office/fruit shop/or supermarket. Always well-placed to explore the many activities and range of entertainment on the island from the orchid houses to the theatre/casino/spontaneous street concerts...
Other Activities: whale/dolphin watching, off road excursions, paragliding, surfing, levada walking, deep sea fishing and the beach.
Golf: Both golf courses on the island are based on the east side of Funchal and you will need a car to access them.
