Our beautifully appointed luxury villa lends itself to those looking for cosy & relaxing accommodation to enjoy their stay in Madeira. We are located in Pombal,a very sought after area, at around 150m and therefore enjoying more than our share of beautiful clear sunny days, allowing you to enjoy our stunning sun terrace, wood barbecue and various outdoor dining areas overlooking the Atlantic ocean. Accommodation: 3 double bedrooms,1 en suite plus large family bathroom, each bedroom has its own terrace with sea, village and mountain views, tastefully decorated and appointed. Ground floor: cloakroom, dining room seating 6 but perhaps you would prefer a candlelit dinner for 2? Substantial well equipped kitchen for those like us who enjoy sourcing local, competitively priced fresh produce and creating their own delicious meals.The panoramic sea views from the lounge create a relaxing place to read from our library and for the family.

Big Space, Big Views

The booking process was very straight forward and excellent additional information was provided.The property is exactly as described by the owners, with the spacious, clean and airy rooms spread over three levels perched on the hillside. The large outside dining and sun terrace area is great for watching the ocean and sunsets and there is also a lovely outdoor traditional built in wood oven which is great for grilling your sardines! Whilst there are other properties close by, you do get a real feeling of space and privacy.
All the fixtures and fittings are of a very high standard and the kitchen simply has everything you could possibly want...and more.
You most definitely need a car here. Even the village is a 10 min up hill walk to get to a couple of snack bars, mini-market and fruit shop. You need to drive down about 5 mins to Calhetta itself for restaurants and an excellent supermarket. Nowhere on Madeira is more than an hour's drive away, even taking into account the slow speeds on the mountain roads. Our 1.2 Petrol Opal Corsa struggled with the hills, so it's worth getting something with a little more power, also diesel is 20% cheaper than petrol on the island.
We would thoroughly recommend Madeira. This was our first visit and we found that the longer that we were there, then the more we discovered to do, and sadly our 10 days came to an end too quickly. Still, this gives us an incentive for a return visit!

Beautiful house in the wonderful Madeira

We spend 4 weeks in July, and we where sorry not to have more days to stay for a few weeks more. Beautiful house, clean, full off light, great view, very quiet, you can get out off the bed in the morning and listen the birds outside in the banana plantation in front and in the left side of the house.
Good kitchen fully equipped very nice barbecue area where you can and should eat outside enjoying the sea view.
If you are looking for a place to rest in peace, alone our, with your family this is no doubt the house to rent, the Calheta beach its 5 minutes away, the motorway to Funchal less than this, making easy to get to the sightseeing areas.
I’m planning to be back next year.

This villa was a beautiful place to stay to explore the wonders of Madeira. The views were breathtaking and we couldn't have asked for a better base for our holiday.

The villa was equipped to an exceptional standard and the rooms were very comfortably furnished.

We totally enjoyed our stay and had a very relaxing time.

I have stayed in many holiday rentals since the web site started and a number in Madeira. This house is easily the best of them all.

Great location-better weather than in Funchal, great views and superbly placed for exploration by car or walking.

The house is large and very comfortable and would particularly suit those who wish to make use of the excellent kitchen facilities.

As stated above the owners Rosie and Roger are very helpful before the trip and their houskeepers in Madeira sorted out a minor domestic issue with great efficiency.

Difficult to fault-I plan to come back soon!

Great Accommodation: Great Holiday

Villa Rosa is simply terrific. It is just as described on the website. It feels what it is- someone's home, not a holiday let. It is spotlessly clean and very comfortable, indeed luxurious. It is very well equipped. The large outside patio skirts two sides of the property and provides an excellent al fresco dining area as well as a built in bbq. The ocean views are stunning- the villa is high up!

The property is on three levels and this might make it problematic for young children/ people with disabilities.

Importantly we found the owners extremely keen to ensure we had a wonderful holiday. We spoke on the phone several times before going and travelled feeling comfortable on all fronts. We had been provided with directions that guided us easily from the airport to the villa. We hired a car at Funchal airport and drove to the villa in something over half an hour.

A car is essential if you stay in Villa Rosa- it opens up the island and makes half day visits to Funchal possible. You need a car though to get down to the local beach. You drive down in 3 minutes but the walk would be long and the roads are very, very steep. The beach is sandy and sheltered affording safe swimming. I swam in the sea in November and, though not warm, it was fine. We enjoyed the fact the village is small and relatively undeveloped. We ate out on several occasions but we also ate in at Villa Rosa- taking advantage of the well equipped kitchen to prepare food largely purchased from the local supermarket.

We enjoyed everything about Madeira except the driving. Driving through the long tunnels that are cut through the mountains is not great and we found drivers generally aggresive. However, this did not really distract greatly from our wonderful holiday. Madeira is beautiful- the gardens superb. The levada walking is very special. Funchal is an interesting city in its own right. The pace of life is sensible.
Would we go again?
