Living in a Vineyard
This is a good place to stay for a couple or small family wishing to experience country living. It is situated several miles from Cave Junction on a working ranch that has been converted to growing grapes. There are actually several vineyards on the property. Visitors are free to wander the grounds as they wish as long as they close all gates to help keep the deer away from the vines. Expect gravel roads, a profusion of bird and animal life, starry skies and a great deal of peace and quiet. The contrast between the vineyards and the surrounding forested hills is beautiful.
The Weaver's House is physically attached to a barn where the field laborers reside. They are quiet and friendly, but you will hear vehicles coming and going - driving right past the living room windows -- in the early morning.
We had a few issues with the cottage -- 2 of the 4 stove burners worked, and one day there were wasps in the house (which the owner promptly dealt with). It was a hot weekend when we arrived, and due to a lack of air conditioning and limited window ventilation, we ended up sleeping downstairs in the hide-a-bed. Closing the vertical blinds during the day to keep the sun out helps.
The loft is cozy, but expect steep, narrow stairs to access it. Kids would love it up there. We left our roller bags downstairs. The simple addition of a sturdy bannister would be a big plus.
All told, this is a neat little cottage on a working vineyard and in many ways it was a bargain. It was very clean. The log framework and wood stove create a very cabin-like feeling that fits the setting quite well. If you like rustic settings and don't mind foregoing some of the conveniences of the suburbs, then the Weaver House would be an interesting place to stay.
Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and feedback. I always appreciate it. We have fixed the burners, I had no idea they were not all working. Thank you for the heads up. We are also going to install a banister on the stairway. I hope you had safe travels home and your vacation was all that you hoped it would be. Thanks again.
