Think about the traditional summer house - the waterfront retreat that patiently waits for Memorial Day to come so it can welcome you back to a slower pace framed by rising and falling tides, stunning sunsets and a comfortable place to get away from it all. The Maine House, named as such by the Owners’ children, it located on Watts Cove in Tenants Harbor.
The house is a year-round house with modern amenities, a large deck and a green lawn reaching down to a very accessible waterfront. Favorite activities here include badminton on the lawn, swimming, kayaking, fishing and exploring the rocks when the tide is out.
The Maine House is 2 miles from Tenants Harbor Village, 5 miles from Port Clyde and 10 minutes from Rockland. It is a perfect location for a vacation for those families who want to revert back to simpler vacations without giving up modern necessities. New appliances will be installed in the kitchen for season 2012!
This is a single story house with 2 additional bedrooms located above the garage. These bedrooms are accessed by an interior door so there is privacy without being completely cut off from the house.
The Maine House is situated on a large lot with hundreds of feet of water frontage – the front door takes you into a den/multipurpose area. This is a great spot for kids to spread out their toys, for laptops to sit on the desk for times when emails, etc. must be checked or for people to just sit and relax. There is a comfortable, wooden-framed futon here.
Off the den find the kitchen and dining area – this is a large area with plenty of space for everyone to be there at once without feeling like they are on top of each other. The dining table has a leaf, expanding to accommodate 10+ people. The kitchen offers modern appliances with lots of counter space for groups that have more than one chef at a time.
The best room in the house is the sunroom at the front of the house (waterside in Maine) – this year-round room has vaulted ceilings and windows the wrap around the front of the house offering fabulous views and a great ocean breeze when the weather gets warm. Find the television here along with comfortable furnishings and the best seat in the house – tucked in the corner is a hightop table for 4 where the owners always find their guests in the morning drinking coffee, reading the paper and watching the ever-changing waterfront scenery.
The deck is accessed from this room – this is the favorite outside spot with outdoor furniture and a gas grill. Step off the deck onto the lawn and use the stairs at the water’s edge to access the ocean – these steps make it easy for people of all ages to get down to the water.
Off the kitchen there is a small hallway with steps leading up to the additional bedrooms above the garage – there are two bedrooms here (one is a pass through to the other) with high ceilings and skylights. Both bedrooms have queen futons that are, as reported by previous guests, surprisingly comfortable.
The other bedrooms and the bathrooms are located in a wing off the den and kitchen – all three bedrooms are bright and sunny and have twin beds, that can be pushed together to make a King. The master bedroom, which has views of the water, has a private bath with a shower. The other bathroom is a full bathroom with a tub and shower combination and is located in the hallway between the bedrooms.
There is also a finished basement which is a great place to send kids to play, put together puzzles or play board games on a rainy day. Throw an air mattress down if you need extra sleeping space.
Where lobster feeds are things to look forward to all day long and days spent exploring on the water or the villages of the St. George Peninsula are the stuff lifelong memories are made of.
Amenities include Internet, cable television, washer and dryer.
