First and for most, John and Sian were so very helpful, pleasant and best of all, prompt when it came to questions about the property and surrounding area. Top notch service!
The property was absolutely stunning! Just fantastic! Our vacation consisted of my husband, myself, our two sons (3 & 2) and my parents. The villa was very accommodating for everyone's needs and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I suggest bringing your own pillow if you have pillow preference like I do.
We spent a great deal of our evenings cooking in. A proper evening meal isn't typically served until around 730pm at any given local restaurant. Tapas (appetizers) are severed at the typical American dinner time and typical English tea time. This made for dining with the boys difficult. But cooking in worked out well, with a well stocked kitchen, and it was delightful sitting on the patio overlooking the Mediterranean Sea every evening.
The pool was by far the highlight of the trip for our boys. We found ourselves sight seeing and adventuring in the morning (markets, Girona, Begur and the beaches) and sipping Sangria and enjoying the pool in the afternoons. In the evenings after dinner we'd head down the road to the "rocky beach" and let the boys have a go at finding all sorts of fun things. My husband spent the mornings jogging along the roadways and trails and in the afternoon my folks enjoyed walking along the pathway on the cliffs connecting Aiguafreda and Sa Tuna (starting at the steps at the Vintage Bar).
The welcome booklet is pretty much spot on for all the local things to do - beaches, hiking trails, bars and shops. All of our questions were answered wonderfully by reading that.
The issue is addressed in the welcome book, but deserves further attention: ANTS! Be very vigilant about tidying up and keeping the inside and patio cleaned. They're everywhere! Please understand, it's to no fault of the property or John and Sian, just the nature of the area!
Overall, this has been a amazing and wonderful vacation, due mostly to the thought and care John and Sian have put into their beautiful villa. There is a very homely feel to the villa, but you still know you're on vacation!
Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind comments Becca, and its great that you enjoyed your stay.
The area is great for walking and Sian and I also enjoy running along the tracks around the area. Going north along the coast road, the first 2 miles are a mixture of flat running and hills with stunning views of the sea. Once you get as far as Platja de Pals which is about 2 miles away there are some great trails along the beach and paddy fields which are totally flat, but then who wants to just run on the flat? Sian does!
Catalans do tend to eat later as we found when our kids were younger but there are restaurants open earlier and we will add this information in to the 'Welcome Book'
We replace all of the pillows in the house every year - its just one of those things that we feel is right to do. I guess that if you have a preference to a 'super firm' or 'super soft', you may wish to take your own. Ours are 'middle of the road'.
Ah yes, ants do live in Spanish countryside and they will be looking for food for themselves! You are right - you have to clear up any sticky spillages and tidy up any bits of food that are left around. Its also good to get rid of any rubbish bags and take them to the communal refuse collection bins which are up on the coast road - otherwise they will come an say hello and bring their mates with them.
Thanks again Becca
