Rental bicycles are available at the Beach & Racket Club across the drive from our house.
Harbor Island is a natural barrier island, a private, gated community 14 miles east of Beaufort, SC. The island offers 2. 5 miles of pristine, unspoiled beach edged with rolling dunes and golden sea oats, with an abundance of wildlife and plenty of space to relax and enjoy nature. Enjoy walking the uncrowded beach, watch the dolphins playing just off shore and the shrimp boats trolling the waters. Observe pelicans, egrets, terns, herons, and a variety of shore birds and crabs. Recently the AUDUBON SOCIETY named Harbor Island one of the TOP SIX wild bird-watching areas in South Carolina. From our deck we observe nesting egrets and herons; at the shore we see loggerhead turtle tracks when turtles come ashore to lay their eggs, and volunteers assure the nests are protected until the hatchlings emerge and crawl to the sea. This rental home is in the midst of nature's paradise!
The historic town of Beaufort is a short 20 minute drive; explore unique shops and galleries, take a carriage ride or stroll through the charming tree-lined streets of antebellum homes, and enjoy a variety of restaurants and a spacious waterfront park. 20 miles from PARRIS ISLAND. Savannah, GA is a 1.25 hour drive, Charleston is less than 2 hours.
