A wonderful villa in St. Maarten

We rented this villa with two additional couples for two weeks in February 2013. It was a wonderful safe (security guards at a gate) place to stay. It was fully equipped, with a kitchen that was designed to work easily in, a great ice making double door fridge, and very comfortable seating inside and outside for 6 people. Bedrooms were super and the mattresses were so comfortable. The bathrooms are well designed and you have lots of towels for the house and also special ones for the beach.
Each day except for weekends, a very nice lady named Mavis came in to service the villa. The location of this villa above Oyster Pond proved to be a really scenic spot overlooking the ocean and we were able to enjoy the hot days with a constant breeze from the North East Trade winds blowing across the terrace. The pool was filled with fresh water and was a nice retreat at the end of the afternoons following snorkeling in the ocean.
I hesitate to say anything negative about this villa but have to be honest and say that there were two things that should be pointed out to prospective renters. One is that you will need a car rental as this villa is on a steep mountain slope above the nearest beach, Dawn Beach, and you cannot walk easily there for a swim. So don't take the advice that the walk is a short one. Also, if you think that you can swim in Oyster Pond be advised that it is not a place you would want to swim. It is a beautiful harbour for yachts.
The second thing is that there are very tiny ants that will invade the kitchen countertops if you are sloppy and leave food out for them to get into. We kept any food that was opened in the fridge and had no problem. These ants do not bite humans so they were not a problem at all, but if you are afraid of very tiny ants be forewarned. All houses on the island have them so stay home if this is a problem for you. It was not at all an issue with us. Just thought you needed to know that.
We had two problems during our stay, one when the air conditioning circuit breaker tripped and one when a safe in one of the bedrooms would not open. These were solved immediately by the house manager after a phone call was made. We were impressed with the instant solutions we received from this house manager.
Finally, I highly recommend this villa and with a car you will have access to 4 restaurants at the base of the mountain in Oyster Pond. Saturday, at Captain Olivers, a buffet dinner with live music is served, don't miss it
