VERY PRIVATE CUSTOM BUILT CHALET OVERLOOKING BEAUTIFUL KENNEBEC BAY

Roque Bluffs Chalet Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, two full baths, sleeps 6

This roomy Italian style chalet is situated in a private setting, up high in the evergreens, overlooking beautiful Kennebec Bay. It's open alpine lodge design captures the cozy feel of a skiing retreat in the midst of a coastal atmosphere.

The warm wood clad interior, fieldstone hearth and glass front fireplace reflect the region of the Alps from which the cottage owners and the architecture hail, while giving spectacular views of the sea. The cottage is located 1/8 mile from the water and has access for launching sea kayaks and other small boats. From the cottage guests are not far from wonderful coastal hiking, beaches, lighthouses and small scenic fishing villages. Shopping and restaurants can be found in the nearby town of Machias.

The rental features a spacious cathedral living and dining area surrounding a center fireplace. It has a modern kitchen with coffee maker, microwave, dishwasher, gas stove and breakfast bar. The Cottage has a large ocean view upstairs master bedroom with a king size bed and master bath. There are two downstairs guest bedrooms, one with a queen size bed and the other with a double bed, plus a shared full bath. It also has a full laundry room with wash sink, washer and dryer. The cottage also features a contemporary full front deck, complete with furniture and gas grill. Other amenities include: high speed Internet, phone, satellite TV with DVD, linens and firewood.

The cottage is available for rent by the week, from Saturday to Saturday, from May to the end of October. Pets are welcome. A 50% deposit is required within 14 days of making your reservation and full payment is due 30 days prior to arrival

FAVORITE VACATION SITE

  • 5 of 5
My family has stayed at Chalet By the Bay in Roque Bluffs the past two years, and are already super excited about returning this summer. We think of it as "our" cottage. The pictures on the websites can't convey the peaceful, relaxing, incredibly comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. The minute you walk in the door, you feel any stress and tension slide off your shoulders. Friends and family came to visit, and they felt the same way. Little kids, teens, and adults all loved it. The cottage is open and airy and gets lots of natural light. It is extremely clean and well-maintained. Sitting out on the deck, the view is spectacular, and you enjoy the smell of balsam mixed with salt air that is unique to Downeast Maine. The area is beautiful, with much to do. Eastport and Lubec are wonderful towns with great attractions. Roque Bluffs State Park is less than a 10-minute drive from the cottage- it has ocean and fresh-water beaches, picnic tables, and hiking trails. There are also several other beaches in the area, such as Jasper Beach and Gray's Beach. Duck Cove is right around the corner from the cottage. It has a boat launch and I kayaked there daily. There are also great seafood restaurants in the area. All of the attractions are only the icing on the cake, however; the cottage itself is so wonderful that even if you never set foot out of it, you will still have a great vacation. The first time we stayed, we stayed for a week and had gorgeous sunny weather throughout. The next year, we stayed two weeks (one week is never enough in Downeast Maine) and were hoping for a couple of rainy days so that we could just enjoy lazing around the cottage. We got our wish and had a combination of enjoying outdoor activities during good weather, and relaxing lazy days of reading, playing cards and board games, coloring, painting, and watching movies on rainy days. The cottage is secluded and overlooks the ocean, but is a 10-minute drive from the town of Machias, which has attractions, gas stations, restaurants, and grocery stores, so there are no problems if you run out of milk. The only thing not to like is that the tap water is not fit for drinking, so you have to buy plenty of bottled water. Since there are grocery stores close by (and right on the way to most of the places we visited), this was never a hardship. I have lived in numerous parts of the country and have vacationed in Maine my whole life. Chalet By the Bay has been my favorite place to stay, hands down.

BETTER THAN ADVERTISED

  • 5 of 5
My wife, our dog, and I just got back from our stay at Chaley By the Bay. It was truly amazing, we couldn't have been happier. The house was nicer than the pictures show, the view was amazing, everything was perfect. The windows in the house let in loads of light, and sunrises were nothing short of spectacular. You can lay in bed, and look out over the treetops to the bay and surrounding islands. You will miss waking up like this when you go home. There is no better place to enjoy your morning coffee than on the deck overlooking the bay. You can spend an entire week just exploring the property around the chalet. Every day we would find something new. There are some great local restaurants, plenty of amazing hikes, and loads of natural, untouched, unmatched beauty. We were about an hour and half from Acadia, which is an absolute must see, as well as the Cutler Bold Coast which is about an hour. With views like this, you won't mind the drive, in fact, you will want to keep driving. Whale watching in Lubec was phenominal. We saw plenty of widlife on our trip, including mountain lion, deer, seals, whales, porpoise, bald eagles, porcupines, peregrine falcons, ruffed grouse, the list goes on. We loved the area that the house is in as well, Route 1 is like driving through a postcard. This was our first trip to downeast Maine, and the most used phrases were "Wow, I can't believe how beautiful it is" and "This is truly how life should be". Sue was great to deal with, very prompt, always extremely courteous and helpful. Rachelle, who was our contact for the trip (she lives in town) was extremely knowledgeable on the area, and had some great suggestions for things we wouldn't have otherwise known about. If you love seafood, it doesn't get better. Restaurants use local fisherman, and some of the restaurants even have their own lobster boats, you are literally eating seafood they caught hours earlier. We went to Helen's Restaurant in town, amazing seafood, everything we ordered was top notch. Best blueberry pie you will ever have in your life.

The house was extremely private, but at the same time minutes from supermarkets, restaurants, shopping, etc. We took hundreds of scenery pictures, every bend in the road offers stunning scenery.

If you want a relaxing, peaceful vacation surrounded by constant, stunning beauty, seriously, look no further. By the end of day 1 we absolutely knew that we would be returning for our next vacation.
