VERY PRIVATE CUSTOM BUILT CHALET OVERLOOKING BEAUTIFUL KENNEBEC BAY

My family has stayed at Chalet By the Bay in Roque Bluffs the past two years, and are already super excited about returning this summer. We think of it as "our" cottage. The pictures on the websites can't convey the peaceful, relaxing, incredibly comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. The minute you walk in the door, you feel any stress and tension slide off your shoulders. Friends and family came to visit, and they felt the same way. Little kids, teens, and adults all loved it. The cottage is open and airy and gets lots of natural light. It is extremely clean and well-maintained. Sitting out on the deck, the view is spectacular, and you enjoy the smell of balsam mixed with salt air that is unique to Downeast Maine. The area is beautiful, with much to do. Eastport and Lubec are wonderful towns with great attractions. Roque Bluffs State Park is less than a 10-minute drive from the cottage- it has ocean and fresh-water beaches, picnic tables, and hiking trails. There are also several other beaches in the area, such as Jasper Beach and Gray's Beach. Duck Cove is right around the corner from the cottage. It has a boat launch and I kayaked there daily. There are also great seafood restaurants in the area. All of the attractions are only the icing on the cake, however; the cottage itself is so wonderful that even if you never set foot out of it, you will still have a great vacation. The first time we stayed, we stayed for a week and had gorgeous sunny weather throughout. The next year, we stayed two weeks (one week is never enough in Downeast Maine) and were hoping for a couple of rainy days so that we could just enjoy lazing around the cottage. We got our wish and had a combination of enjoying outdoor activities during good weather, and relaxing lazy days of reading, playing cards and board games, coloring, painting, and watching movies on rainy days. The cottage is secluded and overlooks the ocean, but is a 10-minute drive from the town of Machias, which has attractions, gas stations, restaurants, and grocery stores, so there are no problems if you run out of milk. The only thing not to like is that the tap water is not fit for drinking, so you have to buy plenty of bottled water. Since there are grocery stores close by (and right on the way to most of the places we visited), this was never a hardship. I have lived in numerous parts of the country and have vacationed in Maine my whole life. Chalet By the Bay has been my favorite place to stay, hands down.
