Lodge in an upscale hip, trendy, and oh so modern condominium, located in the heart of the revitalized Tacoma Theater District. The Rowland Building is a completely renovated historic property that houses an upscale condo tastefully furnished with original artwork, an art gallery, and trendy bar and grill. Guests are welcomed to their stay in our luxury condo with a complimentary bottle of wine, pound of coffee, and chocolates.

Experience Urban living at its finest that is within walking distance to the Theaters, the International Glass Museum, the Washington State History Museum, the Tacoma Art Museum, the YMCA, The University of Washington Tacoma campus, and Antique Row.

If the calendar shows our unit is rented, contact us anyway @ (253) 591-2787 - we have a second identical unit on site that may be available.

Visit the Thursday Farmers Market (two blocks away May-October) and buy fresh produce, arts, and crafts; dine at one of the five nearby trendy restaurants (within one block of the condo).

This area is an ideal base from which to explore the nearby Puget Sound (located three blocks from the Thea Foss Waterway). Travel enthusiasts can travel by car or ferry to sophisticated Seattle, eclectic Vashon Island, and beautiful Victoria, Canada.

Outdoor lovers can visit nearby parks, and marinas, and recreational opportunities abound with skiing at Crystal Mt., Snoqualmie, and Mt. Baker (about an hour away). Nature devotees can visit the Olympic National Rain Forest and Mt. St. Helens, of which the thirty-year anniversary of its historic eruption was recently honored.

Why settle for the sterile atmosphere of a cramped hotel room when you can experience urban living with all the creature comforts in a spacious, intimate space of your own surrounded by original artwork!

About The Owner

My name is Laura Hanan and I am an artist and I live and work in my family's 100-year-old historic building with my husband Marty, who is also an artist. Ron Patterson one of our returning guests (& his wife Charnley) generously married us last summer!

My family completely renovated our mixed-use building nine years ago and built two beautiful identical high-end condos featuring custom cherry wood cabinetry, original brick walls, and refinished 100-year-old Doug Fir wood floors. Our original art is throughout the building and we have our studios and a frame shop located in the basement.

We welcome our guests to tour our sometimes messy studios. We also invite visitors to play in our studios and create some art of their own with our help if they want.

The Owner purchased this condo in 2000
Why The Owner chose Tacoma

We found this beautiful old building - a dusty gem - in the heart of downtown Tacoma, the Theater District. We saw the raw potential of the area and since purchasing and remodeling our building we are in the center of a lovely new restaurant row, including a new bar and grill 'The Office' downstairs in our building. We are proud that our building is also on the local register of historic buildings.

A new Pacific Northwest heavy-hitter anchor tenant, McMenamins is being built less than two blocks away from our building and will feature a music venue, theatrical events, and a brew pub in the grand old historic Elks Building.

What makes this condo unique

We love to pamper our guests with condos that are furnished tastefully and include all original artwork. A complimentary bottle of wine, pound of fresh coffee, and chocolates await our visitors and we live on site and are available to help out with restaurant suggestions and information about the wonderful local events and places to visit.

A great pied-a-terre

I spent two months in this apartment while I was finding longer-term living quarters. It is a beautiful space, decorated with the artist's eye (owners Laura and Marty are artists), fully and thoughtfully equipped, quiet despite being in the center of downtown Tacoma. Restaurants, pubs, a grocery store, banks, theaters, used book stores, museums, and UW Tacoma are within easy reach, many within a few blocks. Laura and Marty were terrific hosts, very responsive to questions and helpful in every way.. I can't recommend them and their apartments too highly. Definitely top-drawer.

Great urban experience

I can only add more positives to what has already been said. My husband and I wanted a place to stay while visiting our son. This more than met our needs. We were comfortable, and thought the place was beautiful and well equipped. Especially great was the instant response by Laura to any questions or concerns. In this hi tech world operating someone's television and internet can be a challenge, but Laura was right there to help. We enjoyed the pubs and restaurants in our area, and found the whole urban experience delightful.

We spent 5 weeks at Laura and Marty's condo this summer. They were wonderful hosts and always available. We were very comfortable, the location is perfect. There was a nearby park to walk our dog and several very good restaurants within walking distance. We would definitely plan on staying there again!

More than you can imagine!

We stayed in this fantastic condo for a month while we were looking for a new house in the area, and it was wonderful (plus, probably saved our marriage during the stressful process of being transferred from overseas)! :o)

All of the appliances and amenities are high end and there isn't a single thing you are left needing. It feels instantly like 'home'.

The street this building sits on has fantastic restaurants and is in walking distance to all the best Tacoma has to offer. Laura leaves tons of information in the condo for you to map out the area (as well as restaurant suggestions and take-out/delivery menus).

Fireman's park is just a street away and perfect for walking the pup or taking a stroll, and the free light rail will run you towards Tacoma Dome and the art galleries and back. Ruston way is a two minute drive away and the parking was so convenient and super secure at the condo! Honestly, can't say enough.

Whether you are staying a few days or a month, you will be amazed at how much this place has to offer. Thank you Laura!!

During our relocation from the East Coast, we choose to stay for 6 months in the Rowland Building Apartments while searching for a permanant home. We highly recommend staying here! The location is convenient and within walking distance to all things downtown. Our apartment was beautifully maintained and the service exceptional. Laura provided us all the extra touches to ensure our stay was comfortable and welcoming. She provided personalized attention and was quick to respond to all of our needs. This is your go-to place for temporary living in Tacoma!
