We rented this house to vacation with with our children and two grandsons age 4 and 7 months.When we arrived we were greeted with a friendly but ONLY Spanish speaking caretaker. She was only able to show us which keys operated the doors. There were NO directions or helpful book about the house which we have come to expect in other rentals. Therefore it took much experimenting and many phone calls to the caretaker's English speaking daughter before we could even use the internet to email the owner about the MANY problems. 1. AC did not work in the living room and one of the bedrooms. 2. MOST of the lights and fan lights in the living room didn't work. We were told by owner "They re broken." No effort to repair while we were there. 3. To compound the AC & fan problems, most of the louvers on the windows were so corroded that they would not open. Again no effort to repair. 4. Kayak paddle broken. After several days it was replaced but by then the ocean was too rough to use it. 5. The beach directly in front of the house was not usable because surf came up to the wall and the bottom steps were washed away. 6. Broken beach chairs upon arrival. Replaced after a few days. 7. Faucet handle in kitchen sink broken. 8. Upstairs hall bath toilet not working. What a smell!
I could go on and on. However, it was really the lack of response by the owner to our complaints that is driving this BAD review. He even implied that these problems were only our as "No one else had ever complained." And also said, "Aren't there enough lights working so you don't need the broken ones."
Good luck to any future renters, though he may have finally fixed the problems because he is now trying to sell the house!
Owner's Response: This is a complete fabrication. I have rented my home over 75 times with not one bad review. My guests called me three time about 3 light bulbs being out when I have plenty of lights. I did replace them within 24 hours. In regards to the broken paddle , it was not broken upon their arrival. They broke the paddle themselves. But I still replaced it and did not charge them for it. I do indeed have a book with a list of restaurants. These people complained the minute they walked into the house. I offered them a full refund the first day they were there but they said no. My house is spectacular , clean , beautiful beach , and we are great hosts. In regards to my property manager yes she does not speak English well but understands enough and I am only a phone call away. She is a wonderful person and felt intimitaded by these people so maybe she was nervous. The AC did not work in the bedroom but was fixed within 15 hours. The fans were replaced with new ones aftert they left. That I feel was their only legitimate gripe.The fans did indeed work but not 100 percent. Anyway I maintain my house is beautiful and a bargain at the rates I charge. On eof the best beach front homes in close proximity to San Juan .
