About The Owner

First visited West Bay Beach in 2001; bought there in 2002; moved there in 2003; loved living there for 6 years. Our son came back to the US and we moved back to be near him.

The Owner purchased this villa in 2004

Why The Owner chose Roatan

It is in a very private location yet it is within a well lighted, quick and easy walk to amenity ~ no hills or bridges to cross to get to restaurants and shops. The property is well built and spacious.

What makes this villa unique

Secluded beach with no public access; people who do not get around so well can enjoy this property with family; the kitchen is very spacious; and it is a small development with a quiet generator.

Perfect Location for peaceful getaway

  • 5 of 5

Being our first trip to Roatan and wanting a quiet place to relax we couldn't have asked for a better place. Bayside is just off West Bay Beach with it's own little private beach all to yourself. On an average day we might of seen maybe 10-15 people but just a 5 minute walk past Los Rocas and you were in the heart of West Bay were all the restaurants bars and nightlife are. The food was amazing and extremely affordable. We especially enjoyed Beacher's, The Vintage Pearl and the Restaurant at Infinty Bay (amazing sushi). Definitely take a water taxi to West End and Explore the shops and Restaurants there as well.

The condo itself has everything you need. The staff was extremely helpful in getting us settled in and Jensen our driver was excellent. He waited while we grocery shopped for some of the basics and answered all the questions we had on our drive from the airport.

We took on snorkel trip with Capt. Ray ( you can usually find him in front of Foster's on West Bay Beach). He took us out all day snorkeling with a stop at Pigeon Cay for a Steak and Lobster dinner cooked right on the beach.

All in all an amazing trip and wonderful location and condo. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to get away from it all yet have all the tourist attractions just minutes away. Can't wait to go back next time.

Peace and quiet on a private stretch of sand

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for North American luxury with room service and the works, you'll have to go elsewhere and spend three times as much. If you want to sleep right in the middle of the dance floor with DJ throbbing, head to Infinity Bay. However, if you want peace and quiet, unfettered views of the blue green sea from your private patio and your private beach, these villas will be home.

The condo is separated from West Bay proper by the rocking outcrop of Las Rocas dive resort. It has its own a stretch of private beach, with the reef a few hundred yards offshore providing decent snorkeling and calm waters. There's a bit more eel grass here than in the heavily trafficked West Bay, but the solitude was well worth it. Being apart from West Bay was a blessing. Just a few minutes walking brought us right to the action, but we could easily escape the parties and throngs of holiday revelers.

The unit we rented (Bayview 3b) was not super luxurious, but was perfectly comfortable and well appointed. We never once turned on the satellite TV, but it was an option. The kitchen had literally everything one might need (bakeware, fry pans, pots, blender, to-go mugs, coffee maker, lots of filtered potable water, etc). We self-catered nearly every meal, though many restaurants sit within easy walking distance.

Our unit was on the ground floor with 3 steps going down to the beach. We spent nearly all of our waking hours either in the sand and sea, or on the porch. The porch is semi-gated, has a handful of lounge chairs, along with a large glass table and 6 chairs for the table. The porch was very well shaded in the afternoons, and midday, when sun was strong, we simply moved the lounge chairs under the trees (just in front of the condo, in the sand) to get shade.

We highly recommend this condo to any and all travelers. It seemed especially nice for families (we brought our a 9-month old baby and his 75 year old grandma).

Property description and reality are a bit off

  • 3 of 5

You can't beat the location of this condo to West Bay Beach and if it wasn't for this, we would have been very disappointed in our stay. You can walk to everything in West Bay but without having to be in the middle of all the resort and cruise ship crowds. We had issues with hot water and water pressure for the first couple of days so showering was a pretty miserable experience. This issue did get resolved and was handled professionally by John and Kevin. The pool had a 4-6 inch brown dirt/scum border going around entire pool at the water level. We inquired about the ability to snorkel from the condo when booking and was told you could. The beach area is full of turtle grass at the sands edge but more importantly, there is a boat channel with heavy boat traffic that separate you from the turtle grass and the reef. First day we tried to get out and all the boat taxi operators were yelling at us to say it was a boat channel and that snorkeling was not allowed. Tried another day but must be a very strong swimmer to swim past boat channel when you have a clear moment and then you have a fair distance to go to get to the reef. I would say this is not a snorkel area with beach entry. The master bathroom had a tub which was very rusted out so appeared to be dirty. I know that everything rusts out in salt air but things could be done to fix it. We asked in advance about the wifi situation and was told it wasn't onsite but could be purchased from neighboring Las Rocas resort and worked fine. The purchased wifi did not work inside the condo and was very marginal when outside holding the device up and into the direction of the resort. Only reliable when sitting on the deck of the resort property. Not sure why wifi is not available in the unit as one of the units in the complex had it. The gas grill was functioning but pretty weathered so lighting it was difficult and not all burners worked. The living room a/c unit was having a hard time by mid week of our stay so room was getting a musty smell as it was blowing warmish air. Had to turn it off and open up all the windows to get rid of odor each day. Overall, it appears that the units are getting older and are need of some repairs/maintenance to bring them up to speed for rental purposes. It was frustrating to spend the first 4 days of our vacation dealing with issues in the condo instead of enjoying our time on the island.

Owner's Response: I am very sorry that your holiday was not as nice as it could have been with attention to the furnishings and maintenance. This has been brought to the attention of the owners who are scheduled to be there in order to attend to these matters, including the internet access. Living and protected Turtle Grass like what is in front of Bayside is where marine life feed which provides excellent opportunity to see certain types not seen in coral. While viewing close up satellite images with the person making the selection of where the two families stayed, I described in detail the location of Turtle Grass, healthy coral, swimming areas relative to where the water taxis travel. It is more restricted in front of Bayside than in the deeper parts of the bay.

Loved Bayside Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I went to Roatan with our daughter(23) and a friend for one week. We loved staying at Bayside Hideaway and would go back in a second. The "private" beach was lovely. It was easy to rent kayaks from Las Rocas next door. The snorkeling was good and even better just walking 10 mins down the beach. We commented all the time how lucky we were to get the best place around(we had never been to Roatan before). We will go back and would recommend to anyone. Absolutely the best location of any place around. We liked being 5 minutes(walking) away from the busier west bay beach but close enough to take advantage of all the restaurants and grocery and beautiful beach with snorkeling and paddle boarding.

Loved Roatan and Hideaway Bay Villa - Nice and Quiet Oceanfront Location

  • 5 of 5

This was our family’s 1st visit to Roatan and we had an amazing time! Jensen picked us up at the airport and stopped at Eldon’s for our groceries on the way in.

Hideaway Bay was very nice and spacious and we enjoyed the quiet location. We cooked almost all of our meals in and the large bottles of filtered water were very nice to have. The view from the unit is amazing! There is very little foot traffic along the beach in front of the unit. Any minor problems we had with the unit were resolved promptly by the personable staff. Thank you, John, for saving our day when we left our money etc. back at the Villa when we traveled to Anthony’s Key.

Las Rocas bar is about 1 min. away and they serve 2/1 drinks during Happy Hour from 3-6pm. Just beyond Las Rocas is Anemona Divers right on the water. We did all of our diving with Denisse at Anemona and she was the BEST! You can also rent kayaks from Las Rocas, they will put them right on your beach-$10 for 1/2 day We used the kayaks to go down to the reefs in front of Infinity Bay where the best snorkeling is and just anchored to the buoys. We snorkeled with a turtle for about 30 minutes. Gumbalimba Park was about a 5-minute walk down the beach toward West End. We ziplined there and did the park tour. Both were nice and we enjoyed a lot of time with the monkeys! We also rode horses through the mangrove, jungle and down to Sandy Bay Beach with El Rancho Barrio Dorcas. It was like no other horseback riding we have ever experienced - don’t miss it! We also traveled over to Anthony’s Key Resort to snorkel with the dolphins and that was amazing - the dolphins interacted much like dogs. Pack your lunch and stay out on the dolphin island there as it is beautiful, serene and covered with cute little Hermit Crabs. If you want to sit in the warm, turquoise water or on the beach, definitely take the 5-minute walk down to West Bay Beach. They do spray for sand flies down on that beach as I witnessed them doing so, but always protect yourself anyhow. We had a few mosquito bites and sand fly bites, but we protected ourselves. Don’t miss the Key Lime Pie at Bite on the Beach in the evening and watch the large green eels.

We’ve traveled to Jamaica, Maui, Grand Cayman, & Curacao and this is by far the best reef diving we have ever experienced, and our only regret is that we could not stay longer! Thank you to Linda, Jensen and his wife, Kevin, John, and Denisse for making our visit Roatan an unforgettable experience!!

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your very helpful review. I say helpful because it helps others who have not been to Roatan to know what to expect of the rental and area. It helps us by letting potential guests to know what they can expect from us. Linda, Kevin, and the owner.

What a view!

  • 5 of 5

During my 10 day stay at the Hideaway, my days were filled with the smell of the ocean, the sounds of the birds, sights too beautiful to describe and the nights were filled with restful sleep. Having the native area next to me made for a very peaceful visit with few vendors coming into the yard.

For night life and meals, the walk down the beach was good exercise and all the food was excellent and fair-priced.

I plan on coming back again!

Several scuba dive operators are a short walk away. Snorkeling is a short swim from the shore directly in front of the villa. There are several zip lines near by, one of which is just a short walk down the beach. It is a quick and easy walk down the beach to restaurants, shops and entertainment. Whale sharks visit in the spring. There is a golf course on the island ~ it is about an hours drive away.
