We REALLY enjoyed your " treehouse" Sitting on the lanai during the rain or waking to a rainbow just outside our window was extremely enjoyable. Or fav place to eat was the dolphin ( their fish tacos are to die for) but having our own little Hawiian BBQ downstairs was also fun and tasty. The most amazing hike we have ever been on was the Kalalau trail. LONG Day but TOTALLY worth it! The St Regis brunch is delicious ( especially when you add passion fruit or guava mimosas) and has the best view for any meal. We loved playing with your kitties and loved discovering wildlife here. Swimming with the turtles " so totally rocks " ( as Crush would say) Thanks and aloha..
I am a nurse, photographer & writer. I've travelled the world in my lifetime and lived in unusual and intriquing places. I settled in Kauai a few years back because i found it to be a ' sacred world apart'. I lived here with my daughter until life and the mainland called to her.
The home is in a special area known by the locals to have ' good mana'. So when I say it is whispered that dreams can come true here, I am serious, if you can tune in that is.
Although the house was eventually too big for me alone, I choose to stay here and share the magic it offers. I have rented it now for almost 8 years and have met vacationers from all around the world and every walk of life. . Its magic seems to attract , for the most part, unique and delightful people and I feel blessed by that.
The tranquility of the property and the gentle sounds of water and birds make writing and daydreaming easy. The local people are full of life and heart. You can learn the meaning of aloha here just by hanging out with them.
In my travels I was drawn to the richness of life, the multifacited human experience, so Kauai has been perfect for me. Aparently it is one of the most diversely populated places in America.
Hanalei is not for those who seek a bland, homogenous experience. I say that to warn off any travellers who would fare better the resort hotel vacation.
This is a safe place, probably as safe as any you can find, but it is not sterile. Someone might yell at you when you '' hog' the bridge, and once in awhile you hear a wild boar hunt way off in the jungle or a sky shaking thunderstorm passes through , leaving us sparkling clean and wide awake.
My life has not always been easy but it has been a good teacher. It has taught me to be open to it, to be more, rather than less, to hear the whole forest of birds sing and not miss out because I'm irritated by one rooster's morning crow. Kauai is perfect for that kind of ' adventure' . It is saturated with sacredness.
We choose this property because I was very ill when I moved to Kauai and needed a place to try and heal. I immedately knew that this place was special and if I could recover anywhere it would be here. Within months my health began to improve and now 10 years later I am healthy again. I know in my heart of hearts it was because of the magic that is here.
I enjoy all the benefits that I have mentioned already. I forgot to mention though that this place is never without a story, a new screen play or a new experience of some multileveled kind. If you are a photographer you will never lack the perfect picture. They are constantly unfolding everywhere. If you want to be part of the community here you can get involved. There is a lot going on to get involved in. There is an ongoing development and encouragement towards sustainable living and best of all there is a spark of a movement back to the old ways of Ohana ( shared living and caring) kuleana (respect and responsibilty) and aloha..which is heart.
