Thank you Sophia! We had a great stay!
Finally saw a volcano and some other local attractions, however, we really found that there's little reason to leave this paradise. Wishing we had more time to enjoy the local flavors right outside the front door. Our first trip here will not be forgotten. Hopefully, we can return again one day!

PS Sophia - we hope you will come & explore Yellowstone with us!
This house and location is really unique. The house sits right on the waterfront of a WARM, spring fed lagoon filled with fish. It was truly heaven! Sophia was very attentive, available, and helpful with anything we needed. I know everyone goes to Kona, but I wouldn't have traded our week here for anything else on the Big Island.
It was WONDERFUL! This was the first vacation ever that we came home rested. Once we got our groceries and settled in, we didn't leave again until we needed more groceries! The ocean, tide pools, sunrises, swimming with the turtles and whale watching were magical. After two weeks, we were still not ready to leave! Thanks for sharing your fabulous home with us! Oceanfront is on of the most amazing and restful places we've ever stayed. The 270 degree view of lagoons, Champagne Pond and Kapoho Bay is great in the pictures, but better in person. We come here and can feel the blood pressure dropping with each day of our stay. We'll be back!
This was an outstanding rental experience for our extended family of six (two 50+ adults and 4 kids in 20s/30s). Lots to do for everyone in a truly spectacular setting. This is a tastefully landscaped estate home in a private gated community. Swimming and snorkeling choices abound - there are steps down into the bay, a small swimming pond next to the ocean, an ample-sized private warm pond full of tropical fish and a private access to the nearby (two minute walk) Champagne Pond. Less than a ten minute drive to the Ahalanui hot pond/park. The home is well stocked with snorkel gear, boogie boards and so forth. One family member is a runner and enjoyed occasional jogs to Ahalanui and back (about 6.5 miles roundtrip). Another is a fisherman and could cast right off the front deck into the bay. A well-equipped kitchen (we cooked a full Thanksgiving dinner there) and comfortable furnishings through-out made us feel right at home. Awesome large screen TV with Blu-ray player and discs in the living room. Although we often did NOT want to leave this peaceful lovely place, nearby Pahoa offered some really good dining experiences as well as shopping for groceries. 40 minutes from the Volcanoes national park, 25 minutes from Hilo. And, for the history buff, this house was a residence of the famed musician Arthur Lyman. This land was selected for not only its physical beauty but for the peace and healing spiritual energy it provides. Best of all, Sofia and her family have a true spirit of aloha - they were extremely responsive to our questions and requests and made us feel totally at home. Combine all this and you have one very special vacation rental - we will be back!
This is my third rental in this area and it was by far in the best location for snorkeling. The pond that is just outside the door was very clean, calm, and great for snorkeling. The Champagne pond has access from the property. We snorkeled in the ocean in front of the house and saw huge turtles and many fish. The Wai ‘Opae Tide Pools are just down the street. The Ahalanui Hot Pond, with 90+ degree water year round, is a five minute drive away. The house was clean and very comfortable. Plenty of towels and a washer and dryer for your convenience. One of our party fell and we needed to call 911. Just so you know the aid car has access to all the gates. They were prompt, with in 10 minutes and very helpful. Sophia also has well stocked first aid kits through out the house as well has flash lights.
Our favorite grocery store was Island Markets, a health food store and deli. Located in downtown Hilo and just down the street in Pahoa. There was a three way tie for our favorite restaurant. Naung Mai Thai Kitchen in Hilo, Puka Puka Kitchen in Hilo, and Kaleo's in Pahoa. Sophia has menu's and prices in the guest book. We didn't have enough time to try all the great restaurants in the area.
I love the Big Island people, and I will surely be back. If I travel alone then I would rent the main part of the house. If I take guests like I did this time I know that everyone would be very comfortable. The two bedrooms on the lower level can only be accessed by going outside so be aware of that. Two of us had wonderful massages from Rose, outside on the Lanai. If I ever get married again Audrey from next door does weddings on the huge yard. I felt very safe and the security gates weren't too much of a problem.
A big thanks to Sophia and her family for renting us a wonderful property. Mahalo!!!!!!
My husband and I are distance and lap swimmers. It was FABULOUS to swim laps in the the hot pond - 80 strokes lengthwise for the crawl, 90 for the breaststroke. Kayaking is also possible off the seawall, and there is a path through the reef. Most enjoyable; we'll come again. Lots of rough stone and stairs, so not a great place for little kids, but 8 yrs and up would really enjoy a few days there.
We have beautiful our door areas made of smooth unique Lava Rocks. We recommend adult supervision for younger children.
Beautiful Wood flooring in the Living Room and Master Bed. Master Bed Offers Great Ocean View and SUnrise.
