Casa Tilde is a balcony flat, situated in a splendid position with magnificent, panoramic views of the Mediterranean islands of Monte Cristo and Corsica and the nearby medieval hilltop village of Castello. At a cool 500mts above sea-level, it is the perfect location for a holiday. Recently completely refurbished, it sleeps 4/5, comprising 2 bedrooms (1 king-size and 2 singles + 1 extra bed), 2 bathrooms, diner/lounge with balcony views of the islands, kitchen area, washing machine, T.V. and private parking. Part of the beautiful island of Giglio is a National Park (car-ferry 55mins) and has four good sandy beaches (with beach-hire services, sun loungers, pedaloes etc.)within a 10 min. drive or bus ride. You may explore the island or hire a boat and swim in its many secluded bays. In the evening, eat freshly caught fish and taste the local wine in the pavement restaurants of Castello's winding streets to the strains of Jazz (in August) or along the romantic waterfront Trattorias in Porto

Giglio is a very beautiful, well known island, Much appreciated for its natural beauty , the charm of its villages and the warmth of its people.

It is also known for its terraces of vineyards producing vino Ansonaco, a golden grape which becomes a good strong wine.

It has four beautiful sandy beaches to suit every taste.

Springtime is a riot of colour and perfume from its wild flowers. Rosemary, sage, laurel and broom grow wild in its hedgerows. Rabbits and birds abound as do fish of every variety. Giglio produces its own honey from the flowers blooming throughout the island.

Summer time is very lively with plenty to do on the beach in the daytime, trips around the islands or a taxi boat to a secluded beach. In the evening a goup of Jazz musicians are often are to be found seated outside, in the winding streets of the medieval Castello, playing for pure pleasure, to the appreciation of all. The evening walk around the Castello is relaxing and amusing in the cool evening air. You get a taste of real Italian life.

The island boasts many good restaurants and pizzerias to suit every pocket..

There is a summer programme of Concerts, Art Exhibitions, the local theatre production and local festivals and other activities throughout the summer. There is a big Festival in August to celebrate the feast of San Lorenzo down in the Porto, with fireworks, dancing on the waterfront and different shows- not to mention the Boat Race (Rowing) with different teams from all over the island. In September there is the Big festival of San Mamiliano in Castello, with donkey races, fireworks, pop stars, rabbit stew and local wine, and the famous Quadriglia dance in the big square with everyone taking part in a big round. This takes place every night at midnight for a whole week!I September there is the Wine Week , when all the local wine cellars are open to the public. You can watch the grapes from around the vineyards of the island being carried in and put into big oak barrels and follow the process of the winemaking,

then taste the grapejuice!

A lovely flat on a friendly, welcomming island

Casa Tilde is a lovely well equipped apartment with fantastic views over the Campese bay and the beautiful hill-top settlement of Castello.

The west-facing balcony gets the sun all afternoon and evening meaning you can sit out with a glass of wine and enjoy some quite spectaular sunsets. The balcony is large enough to accommodate a small table and 3 chairs as well as a sink and washing machine.

The flat is situated about 150 yards from the bus stop and piazza outside the Castello and so is very easy to get to. With regular bus services to the port and Campese bay it is quite easy to get about the island. For the more mobile there are also a number of footpaths around the island with truly stunning views.

Vittoria the owner is one of the sweetest and friendliest people you could ever hope to meet and couldn't do enough to help us out and make us feel at home.

We booked a week at Casa Tilde as part of our honeymoon and were very pleased with it.

Great Giglio Apartment

The property was even better than the description and was spotless on arrival. The views from the balcony were breathtaking - the bay at Campese with Monte Cristo in the distance to one side and the Castello to the other. We saw some amazing sunsets. The owners were welcoming and very helpful -even to the extent of assisting with a problem we had with the hire car! The area is not good for the disabled but can easily be visited without a car as there is a frequent bus service. Although we visited in high season for Italian tourism, we were always able to find a table in local restaurants and made friends with staff in Il Trione Di Meno, which we can recommend. Some knowledge of Italian would be useful, as most locals did not speak a large amount of english. Beaches were clean, although very busy and the scenery is spectacular with a number of walks. Go and enjoy!

Lovely week in Giglio

My husband and I recently stayed in "Casa Tilde" for one week. The apartment was perfect, very clean, cozy and with a spectacular view. We also found the location of Castello to be perfect--very central and no need for a car!Vittoria and Giovacchino, the apartment owners, were very sweet and helpful (even with the languague barriers).

Further the island Giglio was a wonderful vacaction location. Plenty of hiking routes ranging in difficulty level, lovely beaches and very friendly inhabitants.

We will definately recommend Giglio and Casa Tilde to our friends and family.

Giglio Paradise!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here on Giglio Island. The apartment is in a perfect location....just past the medival town of Castello and up the hill from Campese beach...with a beautiful view of the setting sun. The apartment was just right for our family of 5 with a queen bedroom, 2 bathrooms and the second bedroom containing bunk beds with a trundle under the bottom bunk. There is a washing machine on the patio and drying lines as well. The kitchen was fully stocked and the only suggestion I would make would be the addition of wine glasses. The Italian owners are very nice and accommodating. All linens are included...even 3 beach towels. We were sad to leave this wonderful and friendly island. Gracie, Vittoria!
