Casa Tilde is a balcony flat, situated in a splendid position with magnificent, panoramic views of the Mediterranean islands of Monte Cristo and Corsica and the nearby medieval hilltop village of Castello.At a cool 500mts above sea-level, it is the perfect location for a holiday. Recently completely refurbished, it sleeps 4/5, comprising 2 bedrooms (1 king-size and 2 singles + 1 extra bed), 2 bathrooms, diner/lounge with balcony views of the islands, kitchen area, washing machine, T.V. and private parking. Part of the beautiful island of Giglio is a National Park (car-ferry 55mins) and has four good sandy beaches (with beach-hire services, sun loungers, pedaloes etc.)within a 10 min. drive or bus ride. You may explore the island or hire a boat and swim in its many secluded bays. In the evening, eat freshly caught fish and taste the local wine in the pavement restaurants of Castello's winding streets to the strains of Jazz (in August) or along the romantic waterfront Trattorias in Porto
Giglio is a very beautiful, well known island, Much appreciated for its natural beauty , the charm of its villages and the warmth of its people.
It is also known for its terraces of vineyards producing vino Ansonaco, a golden grape which becomes a good strong wine.
It has four beautiful sandy beaches to suit every taste.
Springtime is a riot of colour and perfume from its wild flowers. Rosemary, sage, laurel and broom grow wild in its hedgerows. Rabbits and birds abound as do fish of every variety. Giglio produces its own honey from the flowers blooming throughout the island.
Summer time is very lively with plenty to do on the beach in the daytime, trips around the islands or a taxi boat to a secluded beach. In the evening a goup of Jazz musicians are often are to be found seated outside, in the winding streets of the medieval Castello, playing for pure pleasure, to the appreciation of all. The evening walk around the Castello is relaxing and amusing in the cool evening air. You get a taste of real Italian life.

There is a summer programme of Concerts, Art Exhibitions, the local theatre production and local festivals and other activities throughout the summer. There is a big Festival in August to celebrate the feast of San Lorenzo down in the Porto, with fireworks, dancing on the waterfront and different shows- not to mention the Boat Race (Rowing) with different teams from all over the island. In September there is the Big festival of San Mamiliano in Castello, with donkey races, fireworks, pop stars, rabbit stew and local wine, and the famous Quadriglia dance in the big square with everyone taking part in a big round. This takes place every night at midnight for a whole week!I September there is the Wine Week , when all the local wine cellars are open to the public.You can watch the grapes from around the vineyards of the island being carried in and put into big oak barrels and follow the process of the winemaking,
then taste the grapejuice!
The beautiful Island of Giglio (pronounced 'Jeelio') is situated in the region of Tuscany, off the west coast of Italy halfway between Florence and Rome. Part of the island is protected as National Park and its fascinating medieval hilltop village Castello is also a national monument. The island can be reached by frequent ferries,(approx fare -5 euros per adult-55mins.) from the mainland at Porto Santo Stefano, which is only one hour 30mins drive from Rome airport or two hours from Pisa airport.
