Phoenicia House Rental Photos and Description

Beautiful Mountain retreat for 6 to 8 people.

The Village House at Phoenicia is the perfect country escape for your group of six to eight people this Summer.

Head north to the beauty of the woods, mountains, streams and a lovely small town on the verge of discovery. Phoenicia is increasingly sought after by writers, hikers, cyclists, adventure and serenity seekers.

Phoenicia is an easy two hour drive from Manhattan. Woodstock is only minutes away.

The Village House is right in town (population 280) and feels secluded and quiet. It is completely fenced off from the outside world with a lovely English garden and outside porches and deck and gate leading to the mountain and miles of trails for nature hikes through the forever wild Catskill Reserve.

Primed for an Indie movie, this little town is Americana personified and has the excitement of a frontier town on the the verge of discovery. Phoenicia is now becoming a preferred weekend and summer destination for growing numbers of NYC and Brooklyn investment bankers, lawyers and creative professionals.

The Village House at Phoenicia comfortably accommodates 8 people. Rent the main house alone or add the luxurious private Loft with spa bathroom and/or add our zen cottage with six person hot tub if you would like more space to accommodate four more people )- you decide.

The Village House has four stately bedrooms with flexible bed options depending upon the configuration of your group. The entire house has been lovingly and tastefully restored .

The optional private Loft has a huge spa bathroom which includes a walk in steam shower and over size soaker tub with mountain views. It incorporates ancient barn wood, wide pine plank floors, polished river stone and rustic tile- with mountain views.

The optional separate Cottage is really something special and has lofted cedar ceiling with skylights and bamboo floors - it has a Queen bed and fold out double sofa bed and a private bluestone courtyard with outdoor hot tub- the cottage can quickly be converted into a fabulous studio space.

The Village House is perfect for retreats as there is lots of room for workshops and group activities and discussion.

Stroll the two blocks which make up Main Street and sample delectable treats at places like Mama's Boy for muffins and latte, Sweet Sue's for quite possibly the best pancakes north of the Mississippi, an array from wood fired pizza and fabulous meals at Brio's and the Tex-Mex fare of the Alamo Mexican Cantina with the outdoor decks where weekend bikers mix naturally with Wall Street bankers.

The newly revamped Phoenicia Diner is run by the NYC chef of a renowned Greenwich Village upscale eatery and offers farm to table organic fare to cabaret and wine with dinners. Tavern 214, run by a former Restaurant Associates executive in charge of overseeing new start ups with pizzaz has created his ideal intimate venue with a personal appeal to everyone for the charm, service and intimate preparation of a meal to your exact taste and dietary considerations. The nearby Emerson Spa offers world class spa facilities in a beautiful upscale environment.

The back of The Village House at Phoenicia accesses many miles of hiking trails through untouched natural forest- you will see beautiful waterfalls, streams, mountains and breathtaking views and wildlife all within easy reach- even a friendly bear from time to time! You’ll be in the middle of wilderness within minutes. The Esopus Creek meanders through town and there are many “secret” swimming holes close by as well as tubing to add to your Summer adventure.

The proprietors of the Village House at Phoenicia live in nearby Kingston and have a long time association with the local area, particularly Phoenicia, Woodstock, and historic Kingston with its up and coming new vibe of 'SoHo North'. Proprietor, the opera singer Kerry Henderson owns The Uptown Gallery, a multi-arts space which is also home to his start up venture, Opera Theater of Kingston. Uptown gallery is also the headquarters for the city-wide arts festival- the Kingston Festival of the Arts, August 21 to 31. The gallery hosts regular culinary and musical salons, tango parties, select film screenings, classical recitals and art openings.

No car required- Regular Trailways bus service direct from Port Authority drops you off a couple of minutes from the Village House

We had such a great time! The house was set up for cooking and a group dinner. The backyard led us to a beautiful little hike! I definitely recommend for a quiet weekend stay!!

I am originally from New Zealand and my wife Rebecca is from Scotland. We have been living in the States for the past 10 years. I'm an opera singer and have sung at opera houses and concert halls around the world. My time at the Sydney Opera House was my favourite! I love music,, nature, being with my family, and writing. I'm co-Founder of The Phoenicia International Festival of the Voice and I run the Kingston Festival of the Arts and Opera Theater of Kingston. My wife, Bex is from SW Scotland. We have two young kids- Edrick and Rosa. Edrick is 3 and a wild nature boy perfectly suited to his surroundings. Rosa is 8 and into pop music, art and the world of fashion. This town is going to be too rustic for her before too long and we'll need to get an apartment in Brooklyn or LA! We have lived in many places around the world, but think Phoenicia is one of the most beautiful- the nature here is astounding. Phoenicia is definitely one of the few remaining 'outpost towns'- somehow untouched by the rest of the world. It's sort of fun living over half an hour from the nearest mall, in a sort of semi-wilderness but only a couple of hours from the biggest city on earth! We now live in Kingston- just 30 minutes from the Village House at Phoenicia.

Kerry Henderson purchased this house in 2003

My wife and I were looking for a weekend escape from New York City. We kept travelling further and further North until we happened upon Woodstock where we purchased our first home in the area. After a few years, and the birth of our daughter Rosa we went in search of a larger house. We were in Phoenicia one auspicious day enjoying some wonderful wood fired pizza at Brios- there was a festival taking place in the Parish Field with an Appalachian band playing, line dancing and bonfire. We felt we had discovered Americana at its finest! There was a lovely old house for sale on the edge of the park and it had a 'For Sale' sign outside. Happily this became our home and the birth place of our second child, Edrick. We love coming to Phoenicia- it really has the feel of an outpost town. The figure of Davy Crockett outside the Sportsman's bar reminds us of that daily. We have all the advantages of being in town with its restaurants, cafes, banks, convenience store etc- but if you walk in any direction for a few minutes you're in the middle of wilderness. We love biking up Woodland Valley- it's just over the road and you can bike for six miles along the creek and rarely even see a car! Or take a hike to the Phoenicia Overlook from the back of the Parish Field. We love to swim at the several nearby 'secret' swimming holes and play in the playground in the park out the back with the kids. And we're only 20 minutes or so from North Lake near Tannersville which is one of our favorite picnic spots with awesome hiking and views of the Hudson Valley. Phoenicia really has something for everyone and is so great to visit any season.
