In the heart of Umbria, near the ancient city of Perugia, Villa Aureli stands like a jewel in a hilly countryside, where lines of pine trees mark the horizon. The villa dates back to the 18th century when Count Sperello Aureli restored a 16th century tower adorning it with frescoes, prints, and painted furniture. Among the wonders of the house, the colourful Vietri ceramic floors, different in each room, the bright fist floor gallery, the garden ornamental walls and the orangery. The present owner, Sperello di Serego Alighieri, works on astrophysics at the Firenze Observatory. At the villa the guests can enjoy the rare beauty of the setting and the peaceful atmosphere. All the guests have private spaces in the park, with wonderful views on the hilly Umbrian countryside. The pool (12x4), made out the ancient water cistern, is set in a sheltered area of the park, with southern exposure. On demand, dinners and wines of the house are served.

At Villa Aureli we try to preserve the environment and to offer our guests a stay consistent with the ecosystem. When the villa and the garden were made some centuries ago, there where no electricity nor gas, and chemical fertilizers did not exist. Both were therefore built in order to minimize
energy needs. The thick walls isolate the rooms from cold in winter and from heat in summer. The water pipes collecting rain from the roofs and leading it to the orangery, to the fountain and to the water tank of the vegetable garden were used to collect water for the garden without energy consumption. Modern life needs extra energy, so we provided to install a system of photovoltaic solar panels that covers the needs of all the apartments, including air-conditioning in Adolfo’s House, where the walls are not thick as in the Villa.
All guests enjoy large and different spaces for their privacy and quietness.

Sperello di Serego Alighieri
I had the chance to grow up in Villa Aureli. Now I am an astrophysicist working at the Arcetri Observatory in Firenze, but spend most of the week-ends at Villa Aureli. If you are interested in my activity, please see my web site www.arcetri.astro.it/~sperello
Villa Aureli is a classified historical monument that was passed down through several ancient families: Gregori, Aureli, Alfani, Meniconi Bracceschi and finally di Serego Alighieri. It remained extraordianrily unchanged in time and spirit.
For a taste of life in history and art of the past, in four confortable apartments with separate entrance doors and private areas in the different parts of the large garden and in the coutyards.
Children are very welcome at Villa Aureli. In its large fenced gardens they may have fun watching the animals of the farm, sheeps and lambs, chicken, ducks, and playing with the house pets, the small and friendly dog Pepe and the two cats.
Quinto and Adriana, our gardener and cook, are always there to help, if necessary.
We provide candles for dinner in the garden, under the stars.
