Perugia Apartment Rental Photos and Description
2 to 4 bedrooms, 1 to 2 bathrooms, 4 to 8 people (optional)
In the heart of Umbria, near the ancient city of Perugia, Villa Aureli stands like a jewel in a hilly countryside, where lines of pine trees mark the horizon. The villa dates back to the 18th century when Count Sperello Aureli restored a 16th century tower adorning it with frescoes, prints, and painted furniture. Among the wonders of the house, the colourful Vietri ceramic floors, different in each room, the bright fist floor gallery, the garden ornamental walls and the orangery. The present owner, Sperello di Serego Alighieri, works on astrophysics at the Firenze Observatory. He offers two apartments where the guests enjoy the rare beauty of the villa and two apartments in the house of the former gardener Adolfo. All the guests have private spaces in the park, with wonderful views on the hilly Umbrian countryside. The pool (12x4), made out the ancient water cistern, is set in a sheltered area of the park, with southern exposure. On demand, dinners and wines of the house are served.
This bright apartment (200 sq.m.) has original 18th century furniture and decorations, four balconies and many windows overlooking the garden. Rare sets of ancient prints decorate the drawing room, the large dining room and the gallery. The main stairway of the villa provides independent access from the garden. Double room with king-size bed, twin bedroom with extra large and long beds, large shared bathroom with twin basins, bath and shower. Wonderful views from all windows. Large fully equipped kitchen with dish-washer and washing machine.
On demand, an enlarged version of this apartment may be available, adding one double bedroom with king-size bed and a twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom.
The rentals rates are referred to the basic 4 people version.
Note: by simply unlocking a door, the first and second floor apartments can be joined, and the main Villa can be rented as a whole for large groups of friends.
At Villa Aureli we try to preserve the environment and to offer our guests a stay consistent with the ecosystem. When the villa and the garden were made some centuries ago, there where no electricity nor gas, and chemical fertilizers did not exist. Both were therefore built in order to minimize
energy needs. The thick walls isolate the rooms from cold in winter and from heat in summer. The water pipes collecting rain from the roofs and leading it to the orangery, to the fountain and to the water tank of the vegetable garden were used to collect water for the garden without energy consumption. Modern life needs extra energy, so we provided to install a system of photovoltaic solar panels that covers the needs of all the apartments, including air-conditioning in Adolfo’s House, where the walls are not as thick as in the Villa.
All guests enjoy the charming swimming pool and large and different spaces in the garden for their privacy and quietness.

About Sperello di Serego Alighieri
I had the chance to grow up in Villa Aureli. Now I am an astrophysicist working at the Arcetri Observatory in Firenze, but spend most of the week-ends at Villa Aureli. If you are interested in my activity, please see my web site www.arcetri.astro.it/~sperello
Why Sperello di Serego Alighieri chose Perugia
Villa Aureli is a classified historical monument that was passed down through several ancient families: Gregori, Aureli, Alfani, Meniconi Bracceschi and finally di Serego Alighieri. It remained extraordinarily unchanged in time and spirit.
