The Pond House is a late 19th century farmhouse, completely restored in 2010. Set amidst a 460 acre working farm on a quiet dirt road. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, living/dining room, kitchen, den, laundry, deck and Wi-Fi.

Visitors on our farm are welcome to collect fresh eggs in the morning for breakfast. In the spring, summer, and fall watch the Black Angus graze on the pastures while drinking coffee, visit the turkeys and hear them call from across the pasture, walk the trails through the woods, enjoy a picnic in one of the high pastures overlooking the Catskills, cool off with a jump off the dock into the pond, roast one of our chickens for diner and sit on the deck overlooking the pond. In the winter the pastures and barns are quiet as most of the animals have gone to market. Sledding, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, skating on the pond, and winter walks make up the days, weather permitting of course.

Chatham is a charming small town with an independent movie theatre, a bakery, coffee shop, several restaurants, an independent bookstore, a natural foods store, a local food co-op, and a farmers market in season. Chatham and the surrounding towns have farms producing grass fed beef, prize winning cheeses, wineries, organic vegetables and fruits, locally made jams, chutneys, pastries and breads, beer and spirits. Great local food abounds.

The Hudson Valley and Berkshires have great opportunities to see theater, music and dance, especially during the summer months. Swimming holes, hikes, nature programs, farm visits, and art classes fill your summer days. In the fall, pick your own apples and pumpkins at local farms, roast one of our Heritage Breed Turkeys for Thanksgiving, hike in our beautiful autumn woods, see the Blessing of the hounds in Old Chatham on first weekend in October, attend the Columbia Film Fest. Winter has it’s own beauty and adventures. Cross-country skiing, snow shoeing and sledding here on the farm. Downhill skiing at one of 4 ski areas within 40 minutes.

At Highland Farm we are 30 minutes from Tanglewood and Kripalu Yoga Center, 40 minutes from Jacob’s Pillow, Williamstown and Mass MOCA, and 25 minutes from Hudson (Antiques and Amtrak Station). We are 2+ hours from New York City and 2+ hours from Boston.

Rental Rates for this vacation farmhouse rental in Chatham, New York

Notes

  • $220-$1700
  • - The rent for the summer, spring and early winter (May 25 - Jan 5) is $1700 a week. We have a one week minimum in the summer, Saturdays are our change-over day.
    - Holidays (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years) are $1900 a week.
    - The rent in the late winter and spring (Jan 7 - May 25) is $750 a week or $200 a night, 2 night minimum.
    - Late winter and spring Holidays (President's Day and Easter) are $225 a night, 3 night minimum or $850 a week
    - The house is also available for monthly and year round rental.

House redone with a lot of taste, egg pick up!

We had a fantastic time in the house. The house was just renovated and it was done with a lot of taste with antics, recycled furniture. The owners are very caring and welcoming people and they shared with us a lot of information, especially where to buy organic and biodynamic food as the whole area has farmers who produce small quantities of top quality food.
In the farm they grow chickens , turkeys, pigs and have cows. We rented in February so only the hens were there but the kids had a fantastic time picking up the eggs every morning!
