Photos and Description of the Hereford & Worcester vacation cottage rental A beautiful 4 star retreat in the grounds of our 14th century home.

The Stables was converted into a holiday cottage about 5 year ago and is situated in a quiet courtyard of our home. It is off the beaten track in a peaceful medieval hamlet and is surrounded by gardens and beautiful north Herefordshire countryside. It is situated in the middle of 'The black and white village trail'. The conversion has been sympathetically undertaken with slate floors, bespoke kitchen and contemporary shower room. We have been awarded 4 stars by Visit Britain and always receive excellent customer feedback. The Stables offers single storey accommodation for 2 people, and guests are very welcome to make use of the outdoor heated swimming pool (open approx April to September) and our all-weather tennis court. We really do offer peace and quiet in a beautiful part of England!

  • Our guests often tell us how comfortable the bed is! Quality linen is provided together with feather duvet and a mix of feather and synthetic pillows. The large double bed can be split to offer two 2'6' single beds. (please ensure that this is requested at least a week before arrival).

Notes: There is under cover storage for bikes and separate storage for any items of luggage. The pool is within a private gated terrace, adjacent to the tennis court, and overlooking pastures and apple orchards, with views of The Black Mountains beyond. The pool and tennis court are shared with our family. There is a large pool room with shower room and changing facilities. Pool towels are not provided. A large gas barbeque is available with undercover facilities in the old threshing barn. The Stables has it's own private terrace adjacent to the property, which has hardwood table, chairs and parasol. There is a wood burner in the cottage. Logs are usually available to purchase on site.

Around and about Lower Hardwick: We are surrounded by countryside and own about 14 acres of land, which includes gardens, pasture and a traditional cider orchard which is the home of 130 (last count!) trees, many of which are in their 60th year. We also have a small flock of hens which provide us with eggs and entertainment. They live in the orchard, and it is a lovely cool place to sit on a warm summer day and watch their antics. The famous 'black and white' village trail can be joined just a mile away, and it offers a tour of beautiful traditional timer-framed villages, with pubs and tea rooms as you go. A little further afied are various market towns which all have something different to offer. Within a 30 mile radius, you will find rivers, hills, commons, open houses and gardens.

We are spoilt with several pubs and restaurants iin the area offering excellent food, all within easy reach. If you want to cater yourself, our local village offers an excellent farm shop including a butchers counter, and a 'deli ' offering a wide range of home-cooked food. Our local town, Leominster has several quality individual food shops which allows you to avoid the supermarkets for a while!

The best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in! Although small, The Stables is more than big enough for two. It was equipped with everything you could ever need - and more! The Stables is decorated and furnished to a very high standard and was immaculate. The owners were very welcoming and there was a lovely basket of local goodies awaiting us. The use of the heated pool was a fantastic bonus! The gardens surrounding The Stables were lovely and filled with lots of wildlife and birds. There are lots of places to visit in the surrounding area and many fine places to eat. We would recommend The Stables to anyone wanting a peaceful and relaxing holiday and will definitely return.

Delightful and immaculate accommodation. Excellent cycling in surrounding area, with lots of villages to stop in on the way, with pubs, tea rooms, galleries etc. Very pretty area, unspoilt, with suprisingly little traffic. Looking forward to coming back!

The Stables is a delightful cottage with every facility to make visitors feel at home. Furnished and equipped to a high standard. The owners have made every effort to provide for all your needs. As tennis players we found the tennis court a real bonus. When we arrived there was a lovely hamper full of good things. We found the
owners very friendly and welcoming. We would certainly like to return there.

A very special cottage.

A fantastic cottage in a peaceful,rural location. A destination perfect for getting away from it all, yet near to local shops selling quality regional produce and to a range of welcoming pubs and restaurants. The local villages are delightful and the area provides good walking/cycling opportunities as well as a range of possibilities for days out.
With its luxurious, homely interior, this cottage truly exceeds the quality you see on the web site. In the summer, the superb, heated swimming pool and the tennis court, overlooking tranquil countryside, add a special dimension and with its cosy wood burner it would certainly make for a romantic,winter retreat. All this, in addition to the kindness of the owners and generous hamper of local produce provided on arrival, definitely make it one of the best holiday cottages we have ever stayed in. We are already looking forward to returning soon.
