When I was a child, our family owned property on Thompson Lake. This experience created so many wonderful memories including swimming and boating, sitting by the fire telling stories, and eating a picnic by the lake. I dreamed of owning a waterfront property on this wonderful lake and now I can share my dream with you and provide an opportunity for you to create your own special memories.
You may find you never want to leave the lake once you are here, but Maine is beautiful and has much to offer. We would be happy to suggest day trips and things to do in the area. We want this to be your home away from home.
~Mindy and John Davis, owners.
Growing up in Maine ourselves, and experiencing family time at the lake, we really wanted to be able to offer similar opportunities to other families. Being able to share memories and stories while sitting around a fire toasting marshmallows or cooking hot dogs, can be one of the best memories that you can experience with your family and/or extended family and friends. Having a fun BBQ and enjoying the outdoors while seeing loons, birds, and other wildlife can be most enjoyable when you are taking a break from your very busy everyday life.
We love Thompson Lake in Maine. It is the lake that we grew up with. It is one of the cleanest lakes in Maine. It is a large lake yet is quiet as most folks that use the lake are living on the lake.
Thompson Lake is located in Oxford, Otisfield, Casco and Poland. It is spring-fed by the Poland Spring Aquifier and is considered one of the most pristine lakes in Maine. The lake is 12 miles long (4426 acres) and can be over 100 feet deep in some areas. The shoreline is fun to explore as it has many characteristics depending upon where you are. Some of the lake's shoreline is rocky, some beaches, some undeveloped areas, and there are many varied lakehouses and cottages that are fun to view from a boat, canoe or kayak. It's also fun to see the sailboats finding their way around the lake. Use our canoe or kayaks to explore the lake, or the closeby marina has boats for rent. Also, snorkeling can be such an adventure! Nature is at it's finest when you spot the ducks, deer, eagles, various species of fish, and enjoy the sight and sounds of loons on the lake. So, bring your own or rent a motor boat and enjoy this quiet beautiful lake. Enjoy the sunrises and sunsets on the Lake!
For those of you that enjoy a little gambling, we are located about 10 minutes to the brand new Casino in Oxford!
There is a local movie theater in Oxford and a drive-in theater that is in Bridgton. There is Candlepin Bowling 15 minutes away.
Our home, 'a lakeside dream', is in the country yet is a reasonable drive to so many WONDERFUL destinations. Maine is known for it's fabulous four seasons.
In the summer, enjoy scenic hikes, riding bikes, fishing (with license), boating, several nearby golf courses, walking trails, antiquing, go-karts/mini golf, not to mention shopping adventures that are less than an hour's drive. Freeport is home of the famous LL Bean Store and many national brand outlets. Old Port shopping district in Portland (with many unique shops) is a cruise ship destination. North Conway, NH shopping outlets are also about an hour's drive. The Portland Museum of Art and the Portland Children's Museum are also great day trips as well as watching a Portland Sea Dogs baseball game; The Sea Dogs are the Double-A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Splashtown/Funtown Amusement Park is about an hour and 15 minutes drive. For those that are race fans, there is our nearby Oxford Plains Speedway (10 minutes away) that has races all summer.
The ocean with beautiful beaches and fabulous restaurants (a Maine Lobster Roll is a must!)is also less than an hour, yet you are also within an hour's drive to the mountains. Mount Washington is a wonderful adventure on a clear beautiful day! Fall is a time for apple picking and the fabulous leaf season. Fall foliage in Maine is spectacular! The bright colored leaves are beautiful on a sunny fall day, especially when reflected on the lake. Many take a day trip and enjoy beautiful scenic drives or for those hikers, there are hiking trails with spectacular views.
Maine is famous for its' many agricultural fairs that begin in late summer and early fall. The Fryeburg Fair in October is a favorite!
Winter in Maine offers many outdoor activities. You can take a day trip to ski at the large ski resorts such as Sunday River, Sugarloaf, Loon Moutain, Wild Cat, and others. There is also Shawnee Peak, Mount Abrahams, and many family ski areas that are nearby. Right in the town of Oxford, we have a covered ice rink for ice skaters of all levels and there is Oxford Plains Snow Tubing park. Once the Lake is frozen over by some time in January, there is ice fishing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and skating. There are cross country ski trails, some of which are groomed, and a local rental shop for equipment.
If what you are looking for is some time to rest, rejuvenate, enjoy peace and quiet time...whether it be to read a book on the large wrap around deck or watch the flames of the fire at the lakeside firepit, enjoy some outdoor cooking, going for long walks, sitting on the dock with your toes in the water, then this really is the home to come to. Our home is yours to enjoy a lakeside dream and leave with many wonderful memories and with plans to visit us again soon!
