Steuben House Rental Photos and Description
4 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, Sleeps 8
As the sun peeks above Bois Bubert Island over the bay, awake to the sound of waves on the shore, the muted sound of the fog horn at Petit Manan Island Light House at the head of the bay, and the lobster boats heading out to haul. Enjoy your morning coffee from the large deck that overlooks the bay sparkling with colorful lobster buoys, and wave to the lobstermen (and women) as they pull traps out front. You might meet one of them later in the day when you purchase some of today's catch at the local pound up the road. Keep your camera handy as it is common for Bald Eagles to rest atop one of the old growth black spruce trees at the shore 80 feet away. Take the stairs to the rocky shore below to put in kayaks or dip in the pristine but brisk waters. Scavenge shells and stones or just curl up in the sun with a book.
Bois Bubert Island, part of Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge, is a short distance across the bay. This is a great place to haul out your kayak and follow the trail to the fresh water pond at the top of the island or pull up on the sandy spit between Bois Bubert and Little Bubert Islands and cross to the remote sandy cove. This place is remote, wild and beautiful. If you are a naturalist or bird watcher, bring your binoculars. Seabirds, shore birds and eagles are abundant. For sea kayakers the area is a wonderland.
