Hi I'm Cliff Palermo. My family and I love providing great places for travelers to call home, while away from home since 2011.
Cliff Palermo purchased this townhome in 2012
Georgetown! Why else?
Steps to everything on Wisconsin ave. Circulator bus on corner for direct connection to tourist attractions.
This was the perfect place for our family vacation. We were able to take runs to the monuments. The buses were very convenient and the neighborhood was safe and clean. We would stay here again.
We stayed in this condo over the 4th of July. Everything was great. The condo was in great condition and the owner communicated very well all throughout the process. We would definitely rent again!
This was the second time staying at the Jewel Box and the feedback from the team was positive; not only because of the space and accommodations but also the ease of staying in a familiar place...so close to everything.
We definitely enjoyed this rental. The location is fantastic- just a few blocks up the main intersection of Georgetown in Washington D.C. (Wisconsin & M). The house was very comfortable & very clean. The beds and bedding were comfortable. The showers had wonderful pressure & hot water.
I wouldn't recommend this property for anyone with physical limitations. Unless you are going to cab from the house, you will have to walk at least 1.2 miles to get to the nearest metro station. Also, getting to any of the bedrooms requires climbing or descending a spiral staircase. That staircase would also be scary feature if you were traveling with young children (under the age of 6 or so.)
I'm not sure how you would fit the advertised 10 people into this rental. I think that it would only comfortably sleep 6.
I agree that the place felt a little run down and not as luxurious as the pictures reflect. The furniture seemed 2nd hand. It wasn't bad, just a little shabbier than I was expecting for the price we paid and the pictures. But we came to the conclusion that the price was worth it for location alone, as well as for the comfort level of the home.
Although, I wasn't a fan of the downstairs bedroom. It's well done, but it feels like a basement apartment.
One of the bathtubs was lethally slippery the first two nights of our stay. It resolved itself by the 3rd night & was completely safe. Not sure what made the tub so slippery, and it was most likely just something flukish that will never happen again, but perhaps be careful when you first enter the bathtub in the 2nd floor bedroom, just in case.
It should also be made known that the house is for sale. We were there 10 nights, and it only happened once, but you may have to be prepared to let someone in for a showing. We didn't realize this before we booked the apartment. Again, it only happened once for us in 10 days, so it's no big deal really- just know that it is a possibility. (The showing was arranged the day before the potential buyers came, they didn't just show up at the door. So you have time to straighten up after yourselves and put your things away.)
We are glad we chose this rental for our latest trip and we would choose it again if given the opportunity. I'm a little disappointed that it will sell and maybe not be around next Spring when we need to return to D.C..
First the not so great things. I have rented a lot of vacation homes and although I know pictures are not always accurate I usually get a pretty good feel about what I'm getting. We were disappointed with this one. The decorator touch & premium bedding and finishes were not there. It felt a little bit like somebody took all there old things and stuck them here. The bedding was clean but nothing fancy or premium - the furniture was run down and many cushions were stained - it just felt a bit forgotten. It is also for sale which may explain the forgotten feeling, maybe they just aren't as committed, I don't know.
Additionally we are a family of 5 and we also had some grandparents coming to visit. I was told there was room for everyone and we would be comfortable but there was not and the grandparents could not come. 2 of 3 kids would have been on couches in living rooms had they come, that really doesn't work with teens (at least not mine which is why I had asked). I specifically emailed the owner and asked about the layout so was quite surprised when we arrived. There was old junk mail tossed on the desk when we arrived and wet towels in the washer (probably a mistake) so this didn't help. We felt we overpaid for what we got.
Now for the good things: Excellent location, no parking in front usually but not difficult to find spots. It was very clean. Just not what we expected.
We were three longtime friends who meet up somewhere for a reunion. We did enjoy the three separate bedrooms, and baths. The house is comfortable and clean. However, there certainly were some items missing which account for the rating. For example, there was no soap for any of the three showers...... Never have I experienced that anywhere in the world. Two of the three toilet paper holders were broken. Again, that is a basic. Wood burning fireplace, but no wood, no duraflame log provided. There usually is a map and recommendations for restaurants, and how to get around most expeditiously. This was not provided. There wasn't a feeling of "well looked after" which is what we have experienced elsewhere.
There is a wonderful community pool , tennis courts and park located half a block from the home.. Georgetown is world renown for its wonderful restaurants, shops and antique stores. This property is a mere three blocks from Georgetown University. This property is located across the street from a bus stop which wll take you downtown to monuments and the business district in a flash!
