|Minimum Stay||2 - 6 nights|
The McKinney Cabin offers a cozy winter retreat for you and your family on Tahoe's beautiful West Shore. Homewood Ski Area is 5 minutes away with shuttle service available. Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows are just a short drive and Northstar about half-an-hour. If skiing isn't what you're after, snowshoeing and cross-country ski trails are easily accessed without having to drive anywhere.
Southern exposure allows sunshine to stream through the windows, making that cup of coffee by the fire in either the living room or master bedroom even more glorious.
The open design of the main-floor offers plenty of room for the gathering of family and friends after a day of skiing o hiking. Warm your hands by the woodstove, sink into the comfortable living room sofas, or share in preparing a meal. Guests will find the kitchen clean and well-equipped, whether plans include preparing gourmet meals or heating up pizzas. A large dining table comfortably seats eight. The den, just off the great room, offers a separate space for playing games, watching movies, or just relaxing. The laundry room and a bath with shower are located off the mudroom.
Three cozy bedrooms upstairs accommodate six adults and several children. The spacious master bedroom, with fireplace and queen-size bed, also has a dormer that could sleep children on airbeds if desired. A sitting area near the fireplace in the master bedroom offers a delightful view of the forest.
A queen-size bed in the second bedroom and full-size in the third provide comfortable sleeping. The dormer in the ''Bear'' Room has room for an air bed. A romantic view of Tahoe's famous night sky is visible from the balcony off the Moose Room. The McKinney Cabin is tastefully decorated to add to the allure of your Lake Tahoe retreat.
Maximum occupancy is 6 adults and up to 4 children. A pet that will not be left alone in the cabin unless it is crated will be considered.
The owners live in Homewood and will make sure your stay provides an experience full of wonderful memories for you and your family.
We are an active couple in our early sixties who love the outdoors, and especially Lake Tahoe.
Leslie Smith purchased this cabin in 2010
Lake Tahoe has been a favorite destination for both of us since we were children. Our families frequented the West Shore and local ski areas and we continued to bring our own three children up for skiing, boating, hiking and generally hanging out at the lake.
This property spoke to us the moment we entered because of it's comfortable layout, sunny exposure both winter and summer, and the proximity to the beach, bike trail, and hiking in the forest behind the cabin.
Location! A five minute walk to Chambers Public Beach with our wagon filled with beach chairs, towels, and a picnic in tow or with our kayaks ready for a paddle to Emerald Bay. The large deck off the back overlooking forested open space. Riding our our driveway to connect with either the paved bike trail or up into the forest for mountain biking. A five minute drive or shuttle ride to Homewood Ski Resort, snowshoeing out the back door into the National Forest.
Comfortable and cozy inside.
Very cozy. I slept more soundly than I had in weeks! The cabin had everything we needed and it was so convenient to be able to jump on the bike trail just down the street.
Great spot to stay on Lake Tahoe: Easy drive to Tahoe City, with good restaurants, drug store, post office, groceries, bike rentals and a riverside bike trail, raft trips, kayak rentals, and a fascinating small museum. Easy walk to a small grocery. Half a block from the biking/hiking path on this side of the lake. Close to a park with tennis courts. Easy drive to 3 (!) state parks, with swimming beaches, hiking trails, good bird-watching, and more kayaks; or a 20 mile drive to Donner State Park, also a gorgeous spot to spend the day. Really well-furnished house complete with piano. 3 bedrooms with comfortable beds + pull out couch + air bed; lots of extra sheets, towels, bath towels, washer and dryer, detergent and soap and shampoo all supplied. Completely equipped kitchen. Great deck, comfortable chairs, with more good birds and star-gazing outside. TV with movies to watch; games and books on shelves. No mosquitoes! I know some tourists come here to ski, but this is a great spot for a summer vacation.
We've stayed at McKinney cabin four times and our family LOVES it so much. It's so cozy, warm, and absolutely perfect in every way. The newly re-modeled kitchen is BEAUTIFUL. The new floors are exquisite. The bedrooms are very comfortable and clean, as is the entire cabin. To us, it feels like a home away from home. One of my favorite little amenities offered here is hand lotion in every bathroom next to the soap. It's so dry up in Tahoe and I think this is so thoughtful... also, the welcome bottle of wine is always so-so nice. The owners have furnished the cabin in a way that makes you feel like you're in the most relaxing place on earth. The wood-burning stove works great and heats up the house quickly after a day of skiing. We will be visiting for years to come.
As soon as we walked in we felt the warmth and coziness of this cabin! We snuggled right in to cook dinner and relax after two great hikes in our wonderful Sierra. The cabin is kept very clean (which is HUGE to me); the kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could imagine at hand; we only used the master bedroom, but it is huge, well decorated, and the bed is very, very comfy! The other two bedooms looked quite cozy as well. As we live in Colorado, it was nice to utilize the washer and dryer so that we would not have to pack and bring home smelly, dirty hiking clothes! My husband and I were quite comfortable there, and we feel that this would definitely be a great place for a family to come and spend time - there is plenty of room to spread out, and you just can't beat the Sierra and Lake Tahoe!
The cabin was really well outfitted. The kitchen had everything we needed. We loved the open concept with the kitchen, dining room and family area all open to each other. Really nice! Also loved the wrap-around porch. Lots of seating. Great tables for dining.
5 minute walk to the beach which was perfect and you could throw it all in the provided wagon and GO!
Only drawback was that the house is on a busy street which leads to the 4 wheeling area. There was a lot of traffic that was pretty loud. If you want to get away from it all, this might not be the spot.
The McKinney cabin was perfect for our trip. We had five kids from ages 14-17 and they had plenty of room. It is nice to be so close to Chambers that they can walk down and enjoy the lake. Great deck to spend the afternoon enjoying the sun. Our dog loved the cabin as well. Chambers is supposed to be no dogs but there are plenty around if you want to walk them down to the water.
Stayed here for 4 nights with family including two young kids. The house is fully equipped accessorized with everything you can think of, you can tell the owner's hardwork in making sure the convenience and comfort for all guests. We had a wonderful stay and enjoyed every minute in the cabin. The location of the cabin is close to Sugar Pine state park which has the most beautiful and least crowded beach. Tahoe City is just 15 minutes away for the river rafting and bike rides which we enjoyed very much. Would defnitely come back again if we are ever around the area and highly recommend this place to anyone!
We are located in Homewood, CA on the West side of Lake Tahoe, locally referred to as the 'Best Side'. The cabin is within a five minute shuttle ride to Homewood Ski Resort, an easy five minute walk to Chambers Landing Beach, and 20 minutes to shopping in Tahoe City. Small food markets are available in Homewood and Tahoma, biking distance. Jump on the bike trail near the cabin, hike or snowshoe from the door into National Forest, or drive 20 minutes to Alpine Meadows Ski Area or a little farther to Squaw Valley Ski Resort.
