My extended family vacationed at this house for a week last summer covering July 4th. The views from the house were quite beautiful. The house was not well maintained: the gas barbecue was broken; oven door didn't close; shelf broken in refrigerator; several mattresses very uncomfortable; light bulbs out in high ceilings - things that showed poor maintenance not "abusive renters". The biggest problem was in the lower level sleeping area which had a huge degree of mold and mildew - no dehumidifier provided. The kids wore their sneakers to bed to avoid touching the floors. We had to move one child upstairs because it was affecting his breathing. The agent said it would be cleaned up, but obviously the maintenance issues we reported weren't addressed since a reviewer who stayed at the house later the same season found them still there. The downstairs was advertised as a sleeping area, but due to the mildew and mold, we eventually had to abandon the use of that area and double up in other parts of the house. I would not recommend renting if you plan on using the lower level sleeping area!
Wow. My friend and I stayed for 3 nights this past weekend to enjoy walking on the beach and relaxing away from the chaos of husbands, kids, and reality. Clearly, we picked the perfect place! The houses are far apart so lack of privacy wasn't an issue. The beach is practically deserted and you can walk and walk. The house is perfect! Everything is high end. Everything! The beds were so comfortable, the bedding was luxurious, the jetted tub in the master bedroom was amazing, the fireplace was beautiful and we had it blazing all weekend! Couches were comfortable, kitchen was gourmet, we can't think of a thing we would change. Oh wait, maybe a longer weekend! Also, downtown Manistee has lots of cute little shops to wander and great restaurants!
This house is on a beautiful, private beach. 4 main bedrooms are beautiful, however I would not ever put anyone in the unfinished basement sleeping area. Overall this house is in disrepair. It has been abused by previous renters and needs attention. It is dirty and smells bad.
