The gourmet chefs kitchen with coconut wood bar, large pantry and dishwasher, overlooks lush tropical flower gardens. Kealakekua Bay (which means 'Pathway to the Gods') is also one of Hawaii's most spectacular coral reefs. This is a Marine Life Conservation District where fish are plentiful and swarm over the well developed reef formations that slope steeply from the shore into the nearby deep water. Spinner dolphins and green sea turtles are commonly seen resting in the bay.

Come and enjoy a swim or a snorkel in some of the world's most pristine water! Bring your underwater camera too,

I am an artist. I own and operate the Blue Ginger Gallery located in Kainaliu, Kona. I came to live on the Big Island 28 years ago. I have lived at this Manini Beach location for 23 years. I love the ocean.

I enjoy snorkeling and paddle boarding in the Bay when ever possible!~

Jill Ami Meyers purchased this house in 1990

This old Hawaiian village is very special.

There is lots of history yet to be told here! The relaxed lifestyle and neighborly feeling never changes. Mostly, I love the pristine ocean here, it is like nowhere else on earth, combined with tropical smells and the quiet in this quaint neighborhood of Napo`opo`o.

I really enjoy jumping into the clean magical water at Manini Beach. There is cold, underground, mountain water which enters the ocean at Manini Beach. This creates brackish water which is supposed to be healing. I always appreciate swimming with the beautiful reef fish and the sea turtles, the visibility is beyond compare. Also, the beach access road is wonderful for biking or jogging. Walk to Manini Point for a sunset and watch whales breach in the winter months. Dolphins play all year round.

Swimming with the Spinner dolphins is a breathtaking experience for anyone to enjoy, young and old alike!

PARADISE

  • 5 of 5
If I dream of living in HI, I dream of this house. A house of my own in HI is not in the cards, but I got to live in this one for a few heavenly days, and I'm grateful. I hope to return. Any place else now would be a compromise. It's a bit of a drive from town, but you can't have paradise around the corner from Walmart. Thanks to the owners for making this available!

AMAZING STAY IN THE BIG ISLAND! DON'T MISS OUT!

Amazing stay in the Big Island! Don't miss out!
  • 5 of 5
Stay at the Manini Mermaid House for a vacation of a lifetime! We had such a fantastic time at this beautiful, spacious, and private property. It is just a short walk (less than 5 minutes) from one of the most beautiful small beaches on the Big Island. Excellent location for watching the sunset and relaxing. The house is just a short drive from many restaurants and attractions in Kona and other areas of the Big Island. It was an easy location to get around and see all parts of the island.

The house has a fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, lovely bedrooms, TV, and my favorite part---a huge patio area with grill and plenty of seating to enjoy the gorgeous Hawaii landscape. There are many fruit trees on the property and Jill the owner was so lovely and left us fresh fruit for breakfast every morning!

I highly recommend this property for couples, families, or a group of friends! Plenty of space with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a pull-out couch in the living room. The beach nearby has incredible snorkeling and we even saw a school of dolphins! I would absolutely stay here again!!

DOLPHIN PARADISE

  • 5 of 5
We specifically chose Jill's place because of its proximity to Dolphin habitat. When we arrived, everything was as promised about the physical structure and the pictures do a great job of presenting it. We loved the place itself. But the real asset was the dolphins. Jill introduced us to a local dolphin swimmer who swims everyday for fun, not business. He was an amazing guide. We saw dolphins every morning and culminated our trip with a one hour long dolphin swim with over a hundred dolphins and only 4 other people out. Words cannot describe our experience. If you want to swim with dolphins, stay with Jill!

LOVELY STAY BY KEALAKEKUA BAY

  • 5 of 5
Our stay at this Manini Beach house could not have been nicer. The house is beautifully furnished and decorated and very comfortable to live in. The grounds and garden here are truly a treasure providing delicious edibles of many kinds depending on the season. We were traveling as a couple with our young teenager and this was perfect! The location is perfect for walking to beautiful snorkeling, jogging in the early morning and a very short drive from so much more. I hope to see Jill and her amazing house again very soon. Mahalo Jill!

THE PERFECT BIG ISLAND GETAWAY!

  • 5 of 5
We returned to the Manini Mermaid House (formerly Hale Lotus) after seven years. We were so pleased to have rediscovered this gem and enjoyed another perfect week of restful relaxation and Island ambiance. Our only regret was not to have booked it for a longer stay! It is truly idyllic.
The well-constructed house is beautifully appointed and very clean and comfortable. The best feature is the inviting lanai which overlooks the peaceful and lush garden where we were serenaded by birds and frogs and the gentle sounds of the waves. It was a great place to relax with a drink, read a book, eat dinner, do yoga or simply enjoy the tropical sights, sounds and smells. It's a close walk to Manini Beach and access to Kealakekua Bay. The water is amazingly clear and inviting and the swimming and snorkelling right there is great. The Place of Refuge is a very short drive down the road and offers exceptional snorkelling and water access as well.
As others have described, the location of this listing is very private and low-keyed - but you have access to most of the island within reasonable driving times. We ventured out to several Big Island attractions including the Volcano (a perfect day trip), Kona Village and Hapuna Beach for bodysurfing as examples of things we did during our stay. We also played tennis at the Holua Resort at Mauna Loa village for a modest fee and the courts were nice people were really friendly.
The other great feature of this house is it's location in a quiet, friendly neighborhood with a true Hawaiian feel. The owners are friendly, helpful and unobtrusive. The area is a perfect blend of new and old Hawaii - far away from the hustle and bustle of the world but with all the modern conveniences (comfortable beds, great kitchen, bbq, tv and internet, etc.). If you want a fast-paced resort experience, this is not the place for you. But if you want the best of what the Big Island has to offer in terms of peaceful beauty and nearby options for outdoor play and adventure - this is ideal. We will definitely be returning!

p.s. Be sure to visit the Blue Ginger Gallery in Kealakekua for some really unique momentos and gifts.

GREAT PLACE

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful experience at Manini Mermaid House. We had discovered Kealakekua Bay on a previous trip to Hawaii and knew we wanted to stay in that area. We loved being in a beach neighborhood with easy access to both Manini Beach and Two Step. The house is lovely - clean, quiet and comfortable. Although surrounded by other homes, it feels quite private. The yard is lush and we enjoyed papayas from one of the trees. The kitchen is extremely well equipped which made food prep really easy. We loved the lanai for relaxing and meals. The location provided the 'off the beaten track' feeling we wanted, yet it is quite convenient to get to grocery stores and restaurants. We will certainly return to Manini Mermaid House in the future.
