A CHARMING COTTAGE IN THE HEART OF MCKINLEY PARK

Sacramento Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

Nestled in the heart of McKinley Park is our urban cabin. Although certainly more of a charming cottage than a cabin, this oasis offers the perfect retreat to enjoy all that downtown Sacramento has to offer, but within beautiful tree-lined streets of a neighborhood village. The neighborhood is a mixture of bungalows and Tudor, Craftsman and Mediterranean Revival-style houses built in the '20s, '30s and '40s.

If the perfect location is what you are looking for, you have found your destination! We're only minutes away from the State Capitol, Convention Center, Old Sacramento, Crocker Art Museum and all that downtown Sacramento has to offer. Also with close access to Highway 50 and Interstate 80, Napa, Tahoe and the Gold Rush Country are just a one hour drive away. You may discover you just want to park the car in our private driveway and enjoy the surrounding area.

Residents of the neighborhood usually walk or bike to the area's many independent restaurants, cafes and retailers; and midtown, also full of wonderful restaurants and many art galleries, is just a short stroll away. The 2nd Saturday art walk is a wonderful opportunity to discover all this and more.

We are fortunate to be located only a block away from the beautiful 32 acre McKinley Park. Developed in the 1920's, this historic park is home to a library, duck pond, rose garden(where many weddings have taken place), a garden and arts center, tennis courts, soccer and baseball fields, a swimming pool, picnic areas and a 1.1 mile running track. (Back in the '90s, then President Bill Clinton famously jogged on the track during a trip to Sacramento) Many community events are held in the park as well including a weekly farmers market and free yoga classes under the trees.

Our cottage comfortably sleeps 6. There are three separate sleeping areas. The front room has a queen sofa sleeper and is also the den designed for your entertainment. The rear bedroom has two full size twin beds and the master bedroom has a pillow top queen bed made up with luxurious linens for your comfort. All rooms have spacious closets and are well appointed to make our guests feel right at home. For those business travelers wireless internet is also provided.

A large farm style dining room table is located off the kitchen and comfortably sits 8. For your morning cup of coffee or a quick lunch there is a bright sunny nook that allows for some quiet time. With views of the private back patio and garden, this may become one of your favorite spots. A beautiful vintage O'Keefe and Merit stove adds to the character of this charming home. Our warm Sacramento evenings lends itself to cooking outback and dining on the patio also.

The front living room with its big windows overlooking the front porch is the perfect place to plan the days activities, re-group after a day of site seeing or relax and enjoy a good book from our collection. Centered around a wood burning fireplace this warm and cozy room is the focal point of the home.

We are certain you will enjoy your stay!

Guestbook comments from the owner
We just spent two months in the charming urban cabin and were delighted and will definitely return. The location near the park, library, local markets and restaurants is ideal. The house itself is well appointed with luxury linens and towels. The breakfast nook is a delight with the camellias at the window. The large dining table is great for family We had 12 for pizza and all enjoyed the place. Our grand kids could play in the garden and walk to the park.

Lori is very accommodating and aims to please.

There is great feng shui in this place. Everyone who visited loved it and felt comfortable. We hope to return soon and repeat this positive experience.

My husband and I have lived in the Sacramento area for over 20 years. We have always been drawn to this area as it is truly one of the most unique areas in Sacramento. With its canopy of trees and narrow streets and beautiful architectural features you can't help but want to walk everywhere. We love the different way of life...parking our car and walking to cafes, shops and dinner in the evenings. We hope you will enjoy our urban cabin as much as we do!

Very nice house in a very nice area

  • 4 of 5
Myself and a colleague stayed at this house as an alternative to a hotel when we visited Sacramento for a conference at the Exhibition Center, which is near 13th and L Street. We walked in every day and it took about 45 minutes, but this was along pleasant and quiet, tree-lined streets. A taxi for the same distance was $8–10. We weren't typical house guests as we were out most of the time and we didn't really make full use of the house facilities, e.g. we did no cooking. But it was an excellent place to stay, and the McKinley Park area is a nice, quiet neighbourhood and clearly a good area to live in. There is a big Safeways store about 10 minutes' walk from the house, which makes things very convenient. The house itself is really nice, with plenty of space and good facilities. There were only two of us, so actually it was bigger than we needed. Everything was as described in the details online, and it was clean and tidy when we arrived. The owner was away when we stayed, but was really friendly and easy to deal with via e-mail. I would certainly recommend the house to friends.

Cozy and Quiet - Just what we needed!

  • 5 of 5
This was our first try at VRBO and were very nervous to say the least. What would happen, what if it was a scam? All the questions were there. But it was one of our best vacations, except for little mishap!

The Urban Cabin is everything Lori said it would be and more. It was so easy going, from the reserving, to the checking in, to the checking out and everything in between.

The Cabin is cozy and comfortable. I guess I should have started with saying the vacation was for myself and my husband and my parents. Anyway, my mom and I had a blast going room to room and checking out all the little goodies/decorations. We'd find something new every day I think.

We cooked every night except for the night of arrival which was at a local mexican place (excellent food). We dined inside and out on the patio. The giraffe is awesome by the way!

My husband and I walked around the neighborhood and McKinley park each day and loved looking at all the homes. My husband is an architect so thoroughly enjoyed the homes architecture.

My mother and shopped and hit Napa Valley (2 hour drive) and my husband and father golfed - a lot! There are tons of courses around the area and their favorite is Granite Bay.

I can't say enough about our visit and how easy Lori made the stay and other help (wink wink).

For those who want the details: The house is clean and well appointed. Everything is as exactly shown in the pictures. It's easy access on and off the interstate to get where you want to go. And there are plenty of places to shop and eat within walking distance.

Take a chance and go with the Urban Cabin, you won't regret your choice!!

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5
A delightful stay at this surprisingly spacious 'cottage' in Sacramento. Truly a 'home away from home'.

This is a very pleasant residential area with tree-lined streets, and quiet.
Attractive furnishings and decor and everything clean.

Well-maintained backyard with seating, however July was too hot to be outdoors for us.

Very convenient location, near buses and grocery stores, we did not have a car so this was great. Also walking distance to McKinley Park, where the Rose Garden has been renovated and is looking good.

Would highly recommend this property, we're hoping to stay again on our next Sacramento visit.

Wedding bliss

  • 5 of 5
The night before my wedding I stayed here a couple of my bridesmaids - it was a perfect way to ease into the day of the wedding. The next morning we walked to yoga in the park, and then relaxed with family and friends throughout the day. It was perfect - open, really nice without being stuffy - while there was still room for me to go to the bedroom and have some quiet time before the chaos started. The day was so hot, we drove to the Rose Garden (its totally close enough to walk, but at 108, it was a little warm) That night my new husband and I stayed on our own in the cottage. It was so lovely to take our time, to ease into the day in such a lovely space. Though, to be honest, we probably didn't clean up as well as we could have - Sorry!! Thank you for making our wonderful weekend sweet, warm, easy and so relaxing.

Wonderful Retreat

  • 5 of 5
We were visiting friends in the neighborhood and stayed here with our 4 year old and 15 month old. During our stay there was record heat in Sacramento and the Urban Cabin was a perfect relaxing and cool retreat.

Everything is exactly as shown. We also found the house to be very user friendly with our toddler. It was very helpful that there are no steps. Our baby loved just walking around the house.

The neighborhood is quiet and safe. Neighbors routinely said hi to us and waved.

We will absolutely stay again.
