The raiload servicing the mines was known as the Catasaqua-Fogelsville Railroad. It was built in the 1850's as a way to transport iron ore to furnaces along the Lehigh River, including Lock Ridge Furnace in Alburtis, where the ore was used to make cannon and machinery. The Rittenhouse Gap mines were abandoned after World War I when the iron industry was drawn to the upper Midwest.

Thank you for letting us stay at this beautiful home. We had a great time exploring the farm and feeding the sheep. At night we made a big fire out in the fire-pit which was also very nice! We took a trip to Dorney park last night and went through the haunted houses. We will be back for sure!
