Exquisite Residence in Historic Landmark Building in San Telmo

We rented the apartment for 2 weeks with another couple. I will not repeat the other excellent reviews. Please read them -- they are accurate. The apartment, the bohemian neighborhood, and the proximity to the center of town were much appreciated.

We want to stress how supportive the owner was before our visit to help us prepare for the trip. Fermin, the super, was absolutely outstanding. He ensured that everything worked perfectly in the apartment and also made us discover the neighborhood -- in particular, he directed us to a shop selling gaucho bombachas.

We strongly recommend that you stay in this apartment during your trip to Buenos Aires.

My wife and I spent the month of February, 2012 in this magnificent apartment in San Telmo, the Bohemian barrio of Buenos Aires. It is located within short walks to buses, subway, restaurants, local stores, the many antique shops for which San Telmo is noted, and a delicious empanada chef at the end of the pasaje. Fermin and his wife Rosa looked after the apartment and us exceptionally well. We always felt safe walking in the neighborhood during the day, and we took taxis during the evening hours.

After a full day savoring the many sights, sounds, and tastes, of the city, it was a comfortable haven to return to: the flowers in the spanish-tiled foyer, the unusually-large rooms with their high ceilings, the balcony in the upstairs bedroom overlooking the foyer, the fully-equipped kitchen, all so tastefully furnished, and decorated with lavish paintings. Our daughter, who joined us for a week, particularly enjoyed the downstairs bedroom with its luxurious dressing room and bathroom. We also really appreciated having Wi-Fi along with the dual phone system: one for local calls and the other, Vonage, for calls to home. The apartment fully lived up to the photos.

We would confidently recommend this apartment to our family and friends, and anyone who is looking for a comfortable, well-appointed home-from-home in Buenos Aires.

I chose to stay in an apartment to avoid the sterility and generally cramped room space of a hotel. This would allow us to relax in home-like surroundings, have guests visit us in a comfortable environment and to be able to prepare drinks, snacks or meals if we chose to.

This apartment gave us that and more. It is quite a beautiful apartment in a beautiful historic building. It’s location in the neighbourhood of San Telmo suited us for it’s ease of access to most areas of BsAs and EZE airport, it’s surroundings being very interesting with some of the oldest architecture in BsAs, the large choice of bars and restaurants - some being very old, local establishments and others converted, younger-crowd style places and it’s edgy feel with a mix of demographics of portenos combined with backpackers and tourists. The area grows on you and after spending time in Palmero or Recoletta we were glad we chose San Telmo.

It really is a joy to return to this apartment after a day out and about in BsAs or from an excursion elsewhere in the country. A few reasons why:
• The wrought iron gate from the footpath to the passageway sets the tone as if entering a grand house
• The outdoor passageway – or passaje – with plants in old urns and pots lining either side and it’s length, width and height and turn of the century European architecture just feels welcoming
• The apartment is closest to the gate therefore minimising walking
• The tiles and concrete building materials mean on hot days it’s always cool inside when you enter the apartment
• It is roomy and comfortable
• It is secure and the building superintendent is often about to say hello and help out if needed

The apartment is very well appointed with mostly antique furniture, an array of paintings hanging throughout, a kitchen with most things you would need, a TV in the upstairs bedroom, a good stereo to plug in your iPod, a central heating and cooling system, good wireless and international telephone (complimentary). The front room gives a view to the footpath and street noise if you choose to enjoy that. The 2 bedrooms both have an ensuite and there is a guest/common area toilet – all very convenient. The washer and dryer are modern.

For general supplies there is a good range of stores close by – baker, wine shop, general store, greengrocer, fresh pasta shop.
