The Wisteria House on Franklin Street, Cape May
This 1840s home-one of the oldest in Cape May-was once a guest house rumored to have been a stop on the Underground Railroad. Today, seashore guests still sit on the front porch and watch the carriages go by-but they also lounge by the fireplace in the comfy living room or gather round the big Amish plank dining table.
The Wisteria House is in the heart of Cape May's historic distirct. This three bedroom house can sleep eight- so there is always plenty of room, just like in the old days.
The house features three large bedrooms and two and a half baths. The master bedroom has a queen sized bed, private bath and access to a second floor screened in porch. The other two bedrooms feature queen sized beds. One bedroom also contains a day bed with trundle under it. This bed can lifted to be the same height as the day bed or remain on floot as a pull out.
Downstairs, the living room features a fireplace and French doors. The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, coffeemaker and small appliances. Everything else is there in order to make wonderful meals. The large dining area has a screened in porch at either end.
The entire house is beautifully furnished with a mixture of antiques and family friendly pieces. You will feel comfortable and cared for when you stay at The Wisteria House.
All the porches have wicker furniture. People just seem to gravitate to the front porch with the antique wicker. Everyone enjoys hearing the history of the house from the carriage drivers as the horses go clippity clop and the tourists take pictures.
Visitors to the town sometimes stop and look at the professionally landscaped garden area filled with nandinas, ferns, hostas, impatiens and crepe myrtles. They are always asking about the Johnson geraniums.
The house is completely fenced in and offers a small outdoor table and chairs for enjoying the back yard. You can listen for the church bells ringing every hour and sometimes hear a hymm being played on a Sunday morning.
Our home is a quick walk to the beach and mall. The grocery store is just around the corner. Fire station is right up the street and you can see the post office when standing on the front porch. Right around the corner is the famous Washington Inn restaurant and the Southern Mansion.
Once the car is unloaded and parked, you may never want to leave one of the porches but if you do desire to venture out the gate there is lots to do. You can walk to the mall, shops, restaurants and beach. The town offers house tours as well as ghost tours.Cape May has two theater areas as well as a soon to be convention center. It is a great family centered area with lots of enjoyment for all ages.

We love to come to Cape May every weekend from our home in PA . We have four grandchildren who live about 50 minutes from Cape May and we try and see them everytime we are in New Jersey.
We enjoy taking long walks on the beach to look for sea glass and also riding our bikes around town..

Why Owner/Manager chose Cape May
We fell in love with Cape May the first time we visited it with friends. I never tire of looking at the Victorian homes on tree lined streets. It is definitely not like other beach towns but rather beautiful and unique.
