CHARMING 1840 COTTAGE LOCATED IN HISTORIC DISTRICT

Cape May House Rental Photos and Description

3 BR, 2.5 baths (sleeps 8) + sofa bed(s)

The Wisteria House on Franklin Street, Cape May

This 1840s home-one of the oldest in Cape May-was once a guest house rumored to have been a stop on the Underground Railroad. Today, seashore guests still sit on the front porch and watch the carriages go by-but they also lounge by the fireplace in the comfy living room or gather round the big Amish plank dining table.

The Wisteria House is in the heart of Cape May's historic distirct. This three bedroom house can sleep eight- so there is always plenty of room, just like in the old days.

The house features three large bedrooms and two and a half baths. The master bedroom has a queen sized bed, private bath and access to a second floor screened in porch. The other two bedrooms feature queen sized beds. One bedroom also contains a day bed with trundle under it. This bed can lifted to be the same height as the day bed or remain on floot as a pull out.

Downstairs, the living room features a fireplace and French doors. The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, coffeemaker and small appliances. Everything else is there in order to make wonderful meals. The large dining area has a screened in porch at either end.

The entire house is beautifully furnished with a mixture of antiques and family friendly pieces. You will feel comfortable and cared for when you stay at The Wisteria House.

All the porches have wicker furniture. People just seem to gravitate to the front porch with the antique wicker. Everyone enjoys hearing the history of the house from the carriage drivers as the horses go clippity clop and the tourists take pictures.

Visitors to the town sometimes stop and look at the professionally landscaped garden area filled with nandinas, ferns, hostas, impatiens and crepe myrtles. They are always asking about the Johnson geraniums.

The house is completely fenced in and offers a small outdoor table and chairs for enjoying the back yard. You can listen for the church bells ringing every hour and sometimes hear a hymm being played on a Sunday morning.

Our home is a quick walk to the beach and mall. The grocery store is just around the corner. Fire station is right up the street and you can see the post office when standing on the front porch. Right around the corner is the famous Washington Inn restaurant and the Southern Mansion.

Once the car is unloaded and parked, you may never want to leave one of the porches but if you do desire to venture out the gate there is lots to do. You can walk to the mall, shops, restaurants and beach. The town offers house tours as well as ghost tours.Cape May has two theater areas as well as a soon to be convention center. It is a great family centered area with lots of enjoyment for all ages.

We love to come to Cape May every weekend from our home in PA . We have four grandchildren who live about 50 minutes from Cape May and we try and see them everytime we are in New Jersey.

We enjoy taking long walks on the beach to look for sea glass and also riding our bikes around town..

Owner/Manager purchased this house in 2003

We fell in love with Cape May the first time we visited it with friends. I never tire of looking at the Victorian homes on tree lined streets. It is definitely not like other beach towns but rather beautiful and unique.

FANTASTIC VACATION HOME!

  • 5 of 5
I cannot, cannot say enough great things about The Wisteria House. The photos do not do justice to this great place. I did not feel as if I was staying in a "rental" --- we truly felt as if we were staying in a friend's home. The Wisteria House is warm, cozy, inviting and lovely. With a family of five, we never felt as if we were on top of each other. Sitting on the front porch and watching the horses go by was our 3 year olds favorite thing to do! The small backyard is great, an easy place for us to store our bikes. Claudia has thought of everything --- from the beach chairs to the fans to the outdoor grill.

The location is ideal --- close enough to the beach to easily walk there (about 4 pretty blocks, though if you have a lot of stuff you may want to rent a small carriage to help you out) but removed enough to have some privacy. We especially liked being so close to the grocery store. We are already planning our return visit.

PERFECT AS ALWAYS

  • 5 of 5
We have stayed in many places in our 26 years of traveling to cape may but Wisteria House is by far our favorite place and unless we are coming down with a huge crowd, our only choice. It is clean, bright, nicely furnished. The beds are comfortable, there are two living room areas which is great if some folks want quiet and some want to watch tv or play a game. The many screened porches are especially welcome during the evenings when mosquitoes could ruin rocking on the lovely front porch. The owners are VERY nice and have created an attractive, pleasant home for a vacation. The beach is a few blocks away but the walk along the tree lined streets is very pleasant. The back yard is wonderful for young children.

THE WISTERIA HOUSE REVIEW

This is a nicely refurbished, clean and versatile vacation home. It's a small walk from the beach, very close to the mall and shopping area. Bathrooms, heating, kitchen etc. all ready to use without issue. We enjoyed our time there.

BEAUTIFUL, HISTORIC HOME, EXCELLENT LOCATION!! YOU WON'T BE DISSAPPOINTED!!

Beautiful, Historic Home, Excellent Location!! You Won't Be Dissappointed!!
  • 5 of 5
Wow!!! What a wonderful vacation home! Full of history and beauty abound in this home. I stayed 7 days here with my sister and mom. You couldn't ask for a better location. We were able to park on the street right across from the house since this time of year parking is more readily available. When we could not park on the street we were able to park in the parking spot the owners have reserved a couple blocks down behind a church. I did not have the privilege to speak personally with Claudia, owner, but we had very nice email conversations back and forth!! She is very prompt with getting you all the info for renting the home. The home is very well equipped for a small group or large family. Kitchen was very nice and spacious, loved the counter space, nice appliances, well stocked with utensils for cooking. The dining room is large with a very large dining table to accomodate large family if need be. Small, nice half bath off of dining room. 2 separate living rooms which both were furnished nicely and quite comfortable to sit and read or watch TV. Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms. Master suite is very nice with it's own screened in porch and full bath, large flat screen tv. 2nd bedroom large with queen bed and day bed, tv. 3rd bedroom nice size also, no tv (which was fine for us). Beds were all very comfortable and plenty of closet and dresser space for clothing. Also another full bath upstairs. We loved the screened-in porches off the dining room. So nice to sit out in morning with coffee. We walked pretty much everywhere from here. The Washington Square Mall and the ocean are only several blocks away. The post office is right across the street, which for us was great because we shopped so much we had to ship home alot of our treasures or we would have paid for overweight suitcases!! The front porch is wonderful - wooden rockers to sit in and watch the horsedrawn carriages go by. The yard is very nice, with lots of plants, trees and flowers. Home has great Wifi coverage throughout. Sometimes when you make reservations online you don't know if what you end up with is quite like what the pictures show. This home will not dissappoint you - it is beautiful!! We will definitely rent this home again, without a doubt! Others had talked about the wonderful church bells that chime on the hour-we unfortunately did not get to experience them as they were renovating the church - so looking forward to hearing them our next visit! Thanks again Claudia and Scott!!

CHARMING HOUSE, EXCELLENT LOCATION

  • 5 of 5
We stayed in Wisteria House the first week of August with 3 teenage girls and had a great time. The house is conveniently located in a beautiful neighbourhood of old Victorian houses very close to the town's center with shopping and lots of restaurants. Only a couple of blocks away from the beach, walkable.
Very charming and well kept house with everything you need in it, comfortable spacious bedrooms, very clean! The parking spot just opposite was very much appreciated since parking can be a problem this close to the center. We just parked our car for the week and walked or biked to everything, perfect! Will definitely recommend; lovely property.

WISTERIA HOUSE JULY 2013

The Wisteria House is a cozy, charming house. The location is wonderful. We rented it with our daughters and their children. Our one grandson who is 10 said we should make this an annual family tradition.
