Guestbook comments from the owner

Celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary with our children from 3 states was our goal. Just getting everyone together was a feat!!!!

Trusting the description of this charming house in Chatham, we rented it. Spotlessly clean, 2 well equiped kitchens ; one more functional and one for entertaining in the new open room overlooking a fabulous water view. Its spacious, has two HD TVs, a perfect layout for seperate family members privacy and a great space for us all to be together. We loved having all the baths, sufficient for all of us; all three bedrooms on the second floor have their own private baths.

A really cozy place with New England elegance. Recently restored, not a detail was missed. The interior decor is fabulous. Can just imagine being there in the off season with the fire going in the fireplace overlooking the water. Did I mention the incredible views from our bedroom overlooking the water? In fact there are incredible views from almost every room. At night the moon over the water is spectacular. The yard is perfect for families with children and great for cockouts, we had such fun with our grandchildren. The location is wonderful; it is a short walk to the village of Chatham, shopping is tempting and dining is wonderful, and across the road to the life guared town beach. A two minute drive to the grocery and CVS. If you are thinking of going to Marthas Vineyard or Nantucket for the day, it is a short drive to the ferries. Our vacation was so special, this house is a charmer.

Excellent!

  • 5 of 5
Our extended family rented this home for this past Columbus Day weekend. This is the third house we have rented on Cape Cod and is by far the best.

Everyone had their own bedroom and bathroom and my daughter and her husband really liked the upstairs bedroom that connected with the twin bed room. Our 18 month old granddaughter slept in there so they were able to be near her without having to be in the same room. We stayed in the front bedroom and had a view of Oyster Pond.

The location is excellent. We were easily able to walk into town to shop and try the restaurants. Chatham is one of the prettiest villages on the Cape.

The house itself is beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, well stocked and well maintained. Linda and Stan must really love this house to keep it so nice for their guests.

You couldn't ask for a nicer place to stay. We just loved our long weekend there.

Beautiful home in perfect location

  • 5 of 5
Our family of twelve stayed in this home the last week of July, 2014. We had a fabulous week coming from Kansas, Washington, Colorado and Iowa. This house is in a great location for exploring the cape. It is also in a great location in Chatham, five minutes or less from the Main Street and across from Oyster Pond. I did not think the children, all twelve and older, would enjoy this pond, but they did. Of course, the ocean beaches were best. The old part of the house has been beautifully restored, and the back addition is in very good shape too. I have never rented a home with such a well stocked kitchen! In fact, there are two kitchens! There is also a fantastic gas grill on the patio. The only negative that we experienced was the sleeping situation. To sleep twelve, you have to unfold the couches every night and put them up in the morning as they are in the main living areas. I will admit that Linda told me this. It was okay, but not ideal. Despite that fact, this is a beautiful home n a perfect location, and I do not hesitate to recommend it for your stay on the cape.

Owner's Response: It is our intention to have our visitors have the most wonderful vacation in our home. Thank you Springer family for your thoughtful comments and kind words. Yes, we are located in one of the most desirable areas in Chatham and in one of the most saught after towns to vacation on the Cape. A 45 miute drive to quaint "P" town, a 10 minute drive to Harwick to catch the ferry to Nantucket, and a 1/2 hour drive to Hyannis to catch the ferry to either Marth's Vineyard or Nantucket on the fast boat. Our location in town is perfect; we are on beautiful Oyster Pond with fabulous views and yet right down the street is the wonderful walking village of Chatham, one of the few walking villages on the Cape. Enjoy the shopping, dining, and the newly restored movie theatre. You can walk to everything. The Chatham food market and a brand new CVS is a three minute walk.

Thank you for mentioning our kitchen (s), yes we do have two. The kitchen in the front great room for entertaining and light meals, maybe breakfast on the screened in porch all overlooking the water and then a cooking kitchen for dining either on the new blue stone patio or our European feeling dining area. Yes, we are well equiped,;we generally spend Thanksgiving in Chatham so many big dinners have been prepared. So happy you enjoyed that grill.

I thought your sleeping situation might be challenging. We highly reccommend only 9-10 guests . We sleep ideally 9 in beds in 5 bedrooms. Thank you for acknowledging my conversation with you to warn you of the setup. We have the sofa beds just for a rare overnight quests situation, not for a week on vacation.. We want our guests to be comfortable and have a restful vacation.

Thank you again for your recommendation, so happy you had a memorable week. Best, Linda

beautiful home, fabulous location, outstanding for a large family reunion!

  • 5 of 5
We rented all 3 of the properties on this "compound" from Linda for a large family (16 people) reunion. Our children ages spanned from 5-20 years old. The properties were nothing less than perfect. We had plenty of space to spread out as well gather as a large family. We cooked meals together a few nights and other nights went out for dinner in downtown Chatham. The grocery store is literally 1 block away which made food shopping so easy. We all loved the beauty and uniqueness of each of the 3 homes on this property. Each home was beautifully (and fully) appointed and charming. Each home had laundry facilities and a kitchen. We all loved the quick (less than 5 minute) walk to downtown Chatham. Oyster Pond is literally across the street--a gorgeous view and great smaller beach for little ones. There was a large grassy area on the property for the kids to play, which we all enjoyed at the end/beginning of each day. Chatham beaches are a quick drive away. All in all, I/we can't recommend Linda's properties enough for either a family vacation. Outstanding!!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for this glowing report. Yes, our home is located in one of the desirable areas of Chatham, and yes it is so convenient to everything. Renting the entire compound is so wonderful and great for family reunions. You can be together in the Sea Captain's House and then have your own private times in either the Wind Mill or Carriage House. You can be together or have your own space all at the same time. There is also the freedom of walking everywhere, everything is so close; downtown for shopping, dining, and going to the movies in our newly restored movie theater. Our family spends Thanksgiving at our Compound and there are 19 of us, it is such fun. .

Cara, thank you so much for your kind words, we work very hard to to have our home very comfortable so our visitors feel right at home. We have worked to maintain the feel of our properties and their uniqueness while offering modern conveniences; blending the old with the new.

I hope you and your family will visit us again, it was a pleasure to have you as a visitor and treat our homes with great TLC.

Best, Linda

Great for Large Family

  • 5 of 5
We needed a Chatham house, preferably with water view, convenient to beach and town, suitable for a family of ten. We had a very enjoyable week at the Sea Captain's House on Oyster Pond. The house was quite capable of accommodating my wife and me, children, spouses, and four grandchildren, so that we were not constantly falling over one another. Main kitchen (there are two) was fully supplied with everything necessary for meals at home, supplemented by a very nice grill on the patio, which also was a pleasant venue for our nightly, around dusk, wine-and-cheese wind-downs. We were able to walk easily to the Chatham Angler's baseball games, and to shopping, meals (and ice cream) in the lovely Chatham village. Only issue was that traffic was a bit more than we remembered on Queen Anne and Pond Roads, but this was not a major impediment. All in all, very memorable week in one of our favorite places.

Our family stayed in the Sea Captains house over the fourth of July and had a memorable week. The house is as charming as the pictures and we even had fresh flowers on our arrival. The location is perfect as we had our 5 grandchildren all under the age of 6 with us so being close to the beach really helped. Also being walking distance to town is a great feature as the traffic can be heavy at times. Hope to return soon!

Map

Our Sea Captains house is located right on Oyster Pond with beautiful water views from almost every room. We are located in a very desirable part of Chatham, on the water and a very quick walk to everything. The life guarded town beach is within sight and great for children and even older children who love to swim, there are loating platforms for diving and jumping. The village of Chatham is just over the crest; only a two minute walk to town with great shopping and dining. The new Chatham market is just down the street right next door to a brand new CVS. Our home is located in an area of 2mil plus homes and if you are lucky you might spot Harry Conick Jr., he has a lovely home right around the corner from us. He loves to fish on Oyster Pond. Walking around the pond or walking into town or even lighthouse beach is my favorite activty the views are breathtaking no matter where you look. Enjoy the plaesure of staying in our home where the entegrity of it's historical significance has been maintained while it has been updated to include all the conviences of todays living.
