Beautiful, two-level studio apartment in a 1910 Victorian cottage, with brand-new fully-equipped kitchen, and private garden patio. Located on a quiet street, just two blocks from Cortland Ave. - the thriving heart of the Bernal Heights neighborhood - and two blocks from Mission St. - one of the city's most vibrant main arteries - this is an idyllic refuge in an ideal location.
This 500 square foot studio is a self-contained unit with private entrance. It has one queen bed, a large sitting area with flat screen tv/dvd player, a bathroom with heated tile floor and bathtub/shower, and a full kitchen with high ceilings and tall windows looking out on a lovely garden and the city beyond.
Bernal Heights is a peaceful hillside neighborhood, and Cortland Ave. is its laid-back commercial center, with a variety of excellent restaurants, shops, cafes and bookstore.
In the other direction, Mission Street leads down a short way to the heart of the San Francisco's Mission District, with its muraled walls, bustling streets, and thriving nightlife.
We are also just a 10 minute drive from downtown, 15-20 minutes from the airport, 20 minutes from Ocean Beach, with quick access to both the 101 and 280 freeways, and a short walk from several public transit lines and BART that will take you just about anywhere in the city.

Fantastic basement studio apartment in a charming neighborhood. Fantastic back garden area for your morning coffee, kitchen with all of your basics, and heated bathroom floor. Also great views of the city from the outside as you are on top of a steep hill. Only a block or two from the Muni Bus (14, 24, and 49 will get you to most places in the city) and the J-Train to the Ferry Building ($2.25 per ride currently for either). Also Lyft or Uber are pretty reasonable most times of the day or night if you prefer. Also you can walk to a lot of great restaurants and shops in Bernal Heights (Bernal Star) or The Mission (Lolinda). Chris and Anne were wonderful to meet and do provide a very useful guidebook at the property with information about the rental and surrounding neighborhoods. Overall this is a thoughtful and clean rental for those looking to stay in a neighborhood of San Francisco instead of a more touristy part of town.
This was our first stay in a VRBO, and we loved it!!! So easy, except our bad GPS directions. .lol!! My hubby can be quite critical & he was nothing but happy with this quaint little studio. He says this was his favorite trip to the city. We walked all the way to SoMa StrEAT food park today, and tonight concert at Warfield. The garden in the back is outstanding! We love this place! We hate to be leaving in the a.m, but we will book again!!
This was just a great apartment in a great location. It was very homey and great to have a nice apartment to come back to at the end of each day. As you can see from the pictures, it was very bright, open and comfortable. The garden out back offered a wonderful view and a serene place for eating a meal or playing cards. Out front, this apartment is at the top of a steep hill from both directions. Their manual offered that you could contact them to setup time to do laundry, which was nice, but I tried for 2 days to contact them to find out what time was checkout and what to do with the keys when we left and received no reply. Apart from their unresponsiveness though, I thought this was a great place to be in San Fran.
A fantastic find! From the outside the house is a typical San Francisco style, very charming; inside it is clean, spacious and full of comforts. It was exactly as described except it looked even bigger and brighter than in the pictures. It’s a great studio with a lovely garden, beautiful kitchen area, and perfect location. You can get anywhere in San Francisco within a few minutes, we enjoyed our trip immensely and are planning on returning soon and will be staying here again. I cannot recommend this home enough! Thank you Anne and Chris, we had a great time!
Great overall space, Anne and Chris were so nice and accommodating. Highly recommended! we would stay here again :)
As lovely as this place looks in the photo, one picture can't begin to convey the lengths Anne and Chris go to to make this place instantly feel like home; Very clean and comfortable and private, original art on the walls, a spectacular view of the hills (Twin Peaks) from huge kitchen windows, and a Zen-like garden to meditate in. Parking in this neighborhood can be tricky if arriving after 5pm but once parked you really don't need a car. Keep in mind, this IS San Fran, the hills are steep, so be prepared to get your exercise. Courtland and Mission streets are up and down the hill respectively and provide everything one needs, with variety. Bernal Heights is a quiet residential area, far from the maddening tourist crowd, but access to must-see sights is a snap. It's so easy to take the very near-by J train which makes stops along the way to the Embarcadero. Also a short walk from the place is the bus.
