Kevin & Kim McClarnon purchased this villa in 2012
The Spa on Port Royal Sound is nestled between two city parks on a private beach at the end of Beach City Road. It doesn't have the hub bub of activity that the resorts on the Atlantic have but we consider that a plus. If you want the action of the Atlantic beaches they are a 5-10 minute car ride or a 15-20 minute bike ride.
We came to South Carolina to see our daughters graduation from boot camp at Parris Island. The Condo was a perfect place for us. We were only an hour from Parris Island for the days we needed to go to the base. We went on the boat cruise to Savannah and took the dolphin tour and maybe the best time was just combing the beach right at the condo. So much sea life and sea shells and watching the changes as the tides would change. The Condo itself was perfect for us, clean and had everything we needed.
Rented this condo on our first trip to HH. Loved the unit. It's on the ground floor close to two outdoor pools. There is an indoor pool on the grounds but since the weather was so nice we never used it. Several charcoal grills are close to the outdoor pools. Just a very short walk to the beach on the property. The beach has an amazing transformation between tide changes. During high tide you can walk out on the pier. During low tide you can walk a great distance and explore an array of sea life. Kids loved it. The grounds are very well kept and have been landscaped beautifully.
The condo has an electronic lock which allows you to use your own code instead of carrying keys around with you. The kitchen is updated with all the pots, pans and utensils you should need. The unit has name brand furniture and is very nicely decorated. We enjoyed morning coffee everyday out on the deck. It was very peaceful and there is a great view of the pond. Beach chairs, beach umbrella, beverage cooler and even beach sand toys for the kids are included. There was a great selection of DVD's and books for young and old.
There are several beaches a short drive away.
We spent our beach days at Caligny Beach. There was ample free parking, free Wi-Fi, showers and changing rooms. Several restaurants, grocery and miscellaneous shopping is a short walk from the beach.
Kevin(the owner) contacted us to make sure we were satisfied with the condo and that we had everything we needed. We had piece of mind knowing if we had any issues we could pick up the phone and call him.
The development is gated and we had no issues with noise or anything. They take parking VERY seriously. Our daughter stopped by for a couple of hours one day and was given a visitor's pass and proceeded to our unit. Security should have advised her that she should park in visitor parking only. As she was going to her car to leave security was about to give her a $50.00 ticket. Luckily she was leaving so got out just in time. They did give another car a ticket for overlapping a parking spot. They parked that way because the vehicle that was originally parked next to them was too far over their spot but had since left. Unfortunate.
In summary, we loved everything about this condo. It was stocked with everything we needed except food and a bag of ice. Several beaches, a great selection of restaurants and ample shopping were just a short drive away. The unit was very clean and well kept. A home away from home.
This condo was nicely decorated, clean, and very comfortable for the three of us. It is stocked with everything you need including books, games, dvd's, and even a crock pot, which we used while we sat out at the pool that has the ocean view. The condo is really only a driveway's length to the ocean. While there is no ocean view, there is a little lagoon with a fountain that you can hear when sitting out on the very cozy and private porch. We shopped at the Publix just up the street on our way in and never left the complex. My sister used the workout room which was small but well equipped and air-conditioned. The beach was beautiful and great for walking. There are tons of birds and exotic sea creatures to see while exploring. Depending on the tide, there is room on the beach to lay out and for small kids to swim. This is a great natural area that is unlike other areas of Hilton Head. We definitely plan to return!
This is our 2nd time to HHI. The first time we stayed right off the beach so we decided to something different for this visit. The trip was amazing. This condo is not in the busy part of HHI but more of a secluded area. We were unsure what to expect as we have two kids 10 and 12 and we know they love the beach. This condo has the protected area (unswimable beach) right off the complex. We walked that area every night and every morning. The kids got to see so much sea-life, all sorts of birds and collected tons of shells. The beach is a quick 10 minute bike ride away, so we truly felt we had the best of both worlds. When asking the kids which place they liked better, the beach condo last year or this year’s “nature” condo, they said it doesn’t even compare, the “nature” condo every time!
When it comes to the condo itself, it was great. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need. There was an overnight of toiletries, which was nice so we didn’t have to run to the store right as we got there. The condo itself was clean with a lot of extras (movies, games, beach toys and chairs). The overall outside of the complex is a little old and the indoor pool area was also in need of some updating, but honestly on HHI I think almost every place is like that. Overall I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a unique HHI experience.
We stayed for four months-December 2013 through March 2014-and Kevin and Kim's apartment was perfect. The kitchen is so well equipped that we comfortably cooked here every day. Rainy day? They have a great library of videos; property also has indoor/outdoor pools and exercise room. Sunny day? They have beach equipment! This was a wonderful, comfortable two bedroom, two apartment.
The very beautiful and natural "wild" beach is only 100 or so yards from the front door and we took advantage of it nearly every day. The property is surrounded by protected areas: Fish Haul Creek Park is next door on one side, Mitchelville Park on the other. Great paved bike paths are right there.
We've rented a couple of other apartments in this location--all fine -- but you will not find another one that is this well-equipped. Kevin and Kim were kind and helpful from start to finish. Enjoy your vacation here!
The property felt like home. All amenities that we could have needed were available to us. We loved our time and will definately stay again. The property was quiet and secure.
Located at the end of Beach City Road on the 'Heel' of HHI, we are directly on Port Royal Sound.
