Photos and Description of the South Portland vacation house rental
2 bedroom, 1 bathroom (sleeps 6)

Newly remodeled, immaculate cottage in the Willard Beach neighborhood of South Portland. Modern updates mixed with Maine charm make this vacation rental a great choice for your Maine getaway. Just a short 5 minute walk to Willard Beach provides portage for kayaks, nearly a mile of walkable beach and a play area for children. The Portland Head Light, one of Travel and Leisure's top ten best places to visit in the US, is a quick 1 mile trip down beautiful Shore Road. The two bedroom cottage includes a master with a queen size memory foam bed and a second bedroom with two twin beds. A sofa sleeper brings the house capacity to six. Bed and bath linens (including beach towels) are supplied in the rental. A full kitchen including all dishes, cookware and a microwave oven is provided. Yes, there is a lobster pot. They are mandatory in Maine! The walk out basement has great storage for skis, snowshoes and other outdoor equipment. We have put together a book of detailed information about the area and our favorite spots. These gems might otherwise go unnoticed when you are new to the area. Enjoy the morning sun and a cup of coffee on the front porch or relax in the adirondack chairs in the back yard.

The yard is large enough for a volleyball game and to keep your kayaks. A covered bicycle area is also available.

Quaint Portland House by the Beach

  • 5 of 5

Great stay at the Pilot House. The location is great: a short walk to the beach and easy access to the main attractions. The house was stocked with all the essentials and then some--which was great when we cooked some our Maine lobsters. The only drawback was the bathroom. Although it was recently updated, it was very cramped. There was no real division between the toilet and the shower, which was a little awkward. Not a huge deal for us. Other than that, it was a great stay. Thanks!
Owner's Response: Thank you for the five stars!
Many older homes have challenging spaces. This house was built 1920. We agree, the bathroom is small. We couldn't make
it bigger, but we did create a modern room. A glass vessel sink, heated floor, mosaic glass tiles on all walls and a rain
shower make it inviting and functional.
The lobster pot is required equipment in a Maine kitchen. You can also have your fresh lobsters cooked in the store and
enjoy them on our patio surrounded by lobster traps.

Exactly as described on website. Great for girls weekend, everything was close by as we took the ferry to Peaks Island and spent time in downtown Portland. Would stay at the Pilot House again.
Owner's Response: Thank you!
The Casco Bay Line is a great way to explore the islands. The ferries run year around and you can bring your dog.
In the winter we like to stand on the top deck and take photographs of the picturesque islands in Casco Bay.
The low light of winter makes for dramatic pictures.

Great vacation in the Portland area

My wife and I wanted a nice place near Portland for a 5 day getaway vacation and this fit the bill! Patti and Britt were most accomodating and The Pilot House was like a little home away from home. The owners recommended several good places to eat and introduced us to two new places- The Willards Scoops- best ice cream in Maine and The Scratch Bakery- all products were fresh and delicious. Both were within walking distance of our cottage as well as Willard's Beach. Two of my older sisters came up from CT and we enjoyed a mini-family reunion. ( We had grown up in East Deering as kids in the 1950s) The neighborhood was quiet and freindly and we will certainly be back here again in the fall. Highly recommend this cottage to older couples like us who like to do day trips.
Owner's Response: We appreciate your thoughtful review! The Pilot House is definitely a great "home base" for a variety of day trips regardless of the season. Whether you are cross county skiing in Robinson Woods, visiting Two Lights State Park or walking the museums of the historic Old Port in downtown Portland, adventures are just down the road from The Pilot House. Fall foliage and warm apple cider are on the horizon. See you soon!

Home Away From Home

This review is a little late in coming but not less enthusiastic than the others. For two years in a row my husband and I rented this home for two months during the winter. We loved staying here as it was cozy, clean, well-equipped and warm. We enjoyed the neighborhood and certainly took advantage of the bakeries and restaurants in the area. Britt and Patti obviously take pride in this home and were so easy to work with whenever we had questions or concerns. We loved it in the winter. I can only imagine what it would be like during the warmer months. We'd rent again if we hadn't purchased our own home in the area. Thanks, Patti and Britt for 4 great months of living in your little "home away from home."

Owner's Response: We enjoyed having you as our test pilots during The Pilot House first cold season and then for another test flight the next year. It was a pleasure. Thank you!
We now know the house stays warm and cozy when it's cold outside. We are looking forward to new guests arriving and exploring the beautiful Maine winters. The Greater Portland area has a lot to offer. How about; a well versed art and music scene, great shopping, galleries, many cafes and restaurants, hiking along the coastline, x/c skiing or snowshoeing on the beach, a run with yaktrax on your feet to the lighthouse in fresh snow, ice-skating in Mill Creek or maybe just a few snow angels in the backyard and then some hot cocoa at home in The Pilot House!

Sweet Bungalow in a Great Location

What a great getaway! The Pilot House in South Portland is a cheery bungalow style home nestled in a neighborhood convenient to little eateries, restaurants, a picturesque park and it's just a short drive over the bridge to get to Portland. The location is easy to find. The house is spotless, and well cared for; beds are comfy, and furnishings make you feel right at home. We loved being able to take our dogs with us. Plenty of good areas to walk with them. The bakery down the street is a "must go to" destination every morning upon waking. This is a place to return to. Highly recommend!
Owner's Response: We are so happy you had a good time!
We like to keep it spotless and welcome pets. They are part of the family. It seems that our guests share the same thoughts and are always very caring of The Pilot House. Thank you!
This spring we will again do our top to bottom tune-up of the house and get ready for the warmer months. The reviews keep us motivated so please keep them coming!
