Bucolic, friendly refuge

  • 5 of 5
I echo the positive reviews here. Kevin and Carole are wonderful, engaging hosts who make you feel part of the area and introduce you to its local rhythms and customs as an old friend might do. The cottage lives up to those over-used words "charming" and "cozy." Chickens, a little kitten, and two pugnacious terriers became fast friends with our two young children, who loved it here every bit as much as we did. Walking, fishing, hanging out at the local (and even some shooting) made for unforgettable memories. Kevin had had a rich and eventful life and chatting with him in the courtyard was always a pleasure. We all missed the Williamstadt House as soon as we left it, and if ever we return to Ireland again, as I hope we do, we will definitely make a point of coming here again.

Fabulous place and hosts

  • 5 of 5
We (family of 4 including kids age 8 and 13) loved our week at the cottage. Kevin and Carole are fabulous hosts and made our visit unique and memorable. The house is cozy, comfortable and ideally located to explore the Lough Derg region...or just hang around the property with the cat, dogs, chickens and hosts.

Idyllic rural retreat

  • 5 of 5
We have just left the gamekeepers cottage after 2 weeks of bliss. The house and grounds are totally unique. Kevin, Carole and Emily are great and so helpful regarding things to do and places to see. Kevin is full of great stories and many a morning was spent chatting with him over coffee in the courtyard. Our children loved all the animals, especially the kittens and dogs, aswell as the swing and hammock. My husband loved the woodchopping experience (ask Kevin about this one). We barbequed one night and cooked over the fire in 'the pub' (one of the outhouses) too. All in all it was great. I'm going to miss the cock crowing tomorrow.

A charming piece of Irish history!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at The Gamekeeper"s Cottage a few weeks ago. All ammenities were provided, animals were friendly, and Carole and Kevin couldn't have been more helpful. We used the cottage as a base camp, while we drove around the area. The beauty of the Irish countryside, the warmth of the people, and the richness of their history will remain with us always!

A relaxing family holiday

  • 5 of 5
We spent 5 nights at the Gamekeepers Cottage and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had set out to find somewhere quiet and picturesque to relax in away from the hustle and bustle of Dublin and the main tourist spots; we indeed found that in the wonderful Williamstadt House. Carole and Kevin are great hosts and really friendly and helpful. Our two-year old son had great fun playing with their dogs, feeding the chickens and Kerry the Horse, and not to mention with the tractor. They went out of their way to make us feel really welcome in the cottage and in their home and gave us lots of good tips on where to go sight-seeing and on cafés, food, pubs etc.

The Gamekeepers Cottage is very cosy and comfortable with all mod cons and a wood-burning stove; it also has a good wifi connection too. The walk through their private woodland to the scenic shores of Lough Derg is beautiful. All in all, it’s fair to say that we really happy with our stay and intend to go back for another family break.
See you soon
Gar, Deb and Adam.

So glad we came ...

  • 5 of 5
We were enchanted from the moment we drove through the gate and entered the courtyard at Williamstadt House. The Gamekeeper’s Cottage was warm and comfortable, and it had everything we could need, including a fantastic shower. My 6-year old son Jack was thrilled to help feed the chickens the next day and made quick friends with all the animals, especially Pip, Sally and Walter. The manor house and its history are the genuine article and seem almost untouched by time. We loved exploring the estate and all the buildings, as well as going down the boreen and through the forest to Lough Derg. It was by far the highlight of our trip to Ireland and has surely left a lasting impression of beauty on my son. I’m so glad we chose to stay there and feel we have made wonderful new friends. My only regret is that we didn’t have more time. Thanks for everything, Maureen, Jack, Mary and Michael

Owner's Response: Maureen, Jack, Jerry and Michael! We feel exactly the same about you. The Genuine Article! We're so happy that you chose to stay with us. And Pip, Sally and especially Walter stand at the cottage waiting for Jack to come out and play! He's the perfect age to have Ireland leave an indelible impression on him. When you do return, don't forget to come back and visit us. You are always welcome!

Slan,

Carole and Kevin
