Dragonfly really is `Paradise by Beacon Hill Park`

Dragonfly is a beautiful, serene and comfortable home. Sun-lit rooms and a sense of spaciousness create a lovely and relaxed atmosphere. You have the feeling and the charm of a cottage, while in the heart of the city..... and it's only only steps away from Beacon Hill Park!

Beacon Hill Park......

This beautiful and interesting park is described as one of Victoria's 'crowning jewels'. It would be difficult to argue with this once you have spent a day exploring its 62 acres of natural beauty. It doesn't matter what you're in the mood for, a day in this magical park will offer you something.

Beacon Hill is a beautifully landscaped and manicured park with gardens, ponds, stone bridges, and alpine, rock gardens. There are also large areas of the park that have been left in their natural state, the fallen trees creating a sculptural landscape among the natural grasses and native plants.

The park is home to many exotic and native trees, including Garry Oak, Arbutus, Douglas-fir, and Western Red Cedar - to name just a few. A colony of Great Blue Herons, which once numbered over 100 nests, has returned to its nesting grounds in the park this year, after being chased away by a family of Bald Eagles in 2008.

Beacon Hill park is for visitors and locals alike, regardless of age. It's a delightful place for children to spend the day..... there's a petting zoo, playgrounds, a wading pool and picnic areas, live music in the band-shell and one of the world’s tallest Totem Poles.

It goes on and on.....

Now, let's move on to the Village......

Cook Street Village...Lively and colorful, it is full of charm and character, with something for everyone.

The streets are pedestrian friendly with a small village atmosphere. There are outdoor food courts, fruit and vegetable vendors, markets, cafes and restaurants, a butcher, a bakery, antique shops and boutiques.

Patios and cafes? Well, you have over ten to choose from along three city blocks, year round! Oh, and did I mention the neighborhood pub?

Our beautiful little village is practical too! You can find all of the day to day things you might need... banks, clinics, pharmacy, post office, hair salons, spas, chiropractor.... We have it all!

A walk along the ocean on Dallas Road?

I hope you like dogs. It's an off-leash area, and there are lots of great dogs and owners to watch and share the space with. Walk along the walkway, or sit on a bench and enjoy the view of the ocean and the snow-covered mountains across the way.

You might decide to spend the day down on the beach collecting rocks or reading a book .....and in case you forget your book..... not to worry. We also have a used-book store in the village, which is right next to one of the antique shops, and directly across from the wine store. Well, you get the picture.

I could go on and tell you about how you can walk downtown to the Parliament Buildings, the Empress Hotel, the Museum, Thunderbird Park, Inner Harbour and the night-life. I could also mention that by simply going in the other direction from Dragonfly Cottage, you come to the Art Gallery of Victoria, the Governor General’s House, and Craigdarrogh Castle.

And the best part? You've barely left your front door.....I told you it was paradise.

Everyone who has stayed in Dragonfly Cottage has loved the experience. Doesn't this sound like the perfect way to spend your time in Victoria?

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks so much, Toula!

Lovely home, lovely location, so easy to get where we wanted to go. The wine and chocolate were much appreciated. The kids loved the zipline at the park, parents loved Pagliacci's restaurant on Broad St. We need the sun to come back today, though.

Many thanks!

Elegant, Tasteful, Walkable, and A WOW!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I had the good fortune of visiting our folks in Victoria who had rented the Dragonfly Cottage for the winter season. The cottage is located near the heart of downtown Victoria, close to beautiful Beacon Hill Park and just blocks from the ocean. Pubs, eateries, and coffee shops are a short walk away.

Dragonfly Cottage has been upgraded with thoroughly modern touches--beautiful hardwood floors, oversized windows, simply but elegantly furnished. I commented to our folks several times of the cleanliness and good taste of the owners. We slept on the spare bed and even it was very comfortable. The cottage is warm and welcoming, painted in cream colored ivories with black accents. Not only is the cottage furnished, but the owner has added lovely wall hangings, knickknacks in alcoves and displays. The living room and dining room are light and airy. There is a lovely and warm flow to the home and we were utterly comfortable--it was overcast during our stay in the early spring. For those who like to get out and about on foot, Dragonfly Cottage is located in the heart of a walkable neighbohood. Just a block or two, and you're at the park, the ocean, local pubs, neighborhood store, and a number of different retail establishments and businesses.

Our folks loved the Cottage and their communications with the owner were great. We hope they plan to rent the home again. We'd love to come visit them and stay again at Dragonfly Cottage, as well. I can't imagine anyone renting the cottage who wouldn't feel relaxed and at home in such a cozy, tasteful, and quiet atmosphere.

Truly Dragonfly Cottage was a "Wow!" experience and a jewel of a find by our folks.

On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the best, we give it a 10 wholeheartedly.

Owner's Response: Dear Margie,

Thank you for your kind and generous words about Dragonfly.
It was an absolute pleasure having your parents stay here for the winter. It gave me great joy to know they were enjoying themselves so much, and that they had the room to have visitors like yourselves.

I missed them when they left and I look forward to having all of you back again very soon!

Stay here!!!

  • 5 of 5
We booked the home for my mom's 60th birthday - my dad, husband, two kids, sister, brother in law and their daughter. I loved the photos on VRBO but wondered if it was a bit too good to be true - the photos are beautiful... We were happy to find out that the home is nicer in person than the pictures - it's charming, beautiful, cozy and decorated with personality (which can be hard to find in a vacation rental). Toula met us on arrival and is absolutely lovely - she had chilled wine and chocolates waiting for us and showed us the suite. All 9 of us fit comfortably. My mom loved it and my sister wanted to move in.

The location is great - literally a 30 second walk to Beacon Hill park (5 minutes from the pond and 7-8 minutes from the petting zoo). Toula had told us to check out the goat stampede at the petting zoo - if you have kids, this is not to be missed. Two blocks in the other direction is a little village with Starbucks and Booster Juice. We walked in and out of downtown from the home in less than 15 minutes. There is parking at the home as well as a washing machine and dishwasher.

A note about Toula - she is a wonderful host. I love that she acknowledged our children and made us feel welcome to bring them. As we were there over Easter weekend, she brought the kids Easter gifts... this was so special. She makes herself available but I don't believe we saw her once, outside of the time when we arrived and when we left.

Stay here. You will not regret it.

Perfect Girlfriends' Get-away!

Perfect Girlfriends' Get-away!

The Dragonfly Cottage was everything we could have hoped for - and more - on our trip to Victoria. At first we were wondering how 5 ladies would manage with only one bathroom, but it all worked out fine. Toula was so good to answer any of our questions promptly before our arrival and is the most accommodating, gracious hostess. The location was wonderful, so convenient to Cook street Village, the beach, and of course beacon Hill Park.
We cannot wait to return to the Dragonfly Cottage next spring.

Beautiful, spacious, perfectly located suite!

  • 5 of 5
The apartment was beautifully, thoughtfully decorated and fully equipped. We were thrilled to find that we could grind our own coffee for a fresh cup in the morning. We were able to connect our computer/cell phone to the speaker system for music. The clawfoot tub with its sloping side was perfect for a warm soak.

The location is very convenient to walk/bike downtown, Beacon Hill Park and the Cook St area with it's coffee shops and markets.

Last, I made the mistake of booking the suite for the wrong dates (one day off) and arrived a day early. We were graciously accommodated, nonetheless!

Wonderful location and house

  • 5 of 5
We found this house exactly as advertised. Its location is perfect for access to the inner harbor and the proximity to Beacon Hill Park was wonderful. The friends we traveled with love to cook, and the kitchen provided everything that was needed. The décor is striking and comfortable. Our bed was great, but the second bed was a tad too short for comfort if you are a tall person. The owner was flexible and easy to work with. We highly recommend this property.
