The place is great. Right in the middle of a garden with a big wonderful patio. Plenty of space for eating, inside at the breakfast bar or kitchen table, or outside on the picnic table. The furniture is cozy and super comfortable. Great TV and WiFi. Blake and Anita are great hosts if you need them. Very generous, enthusiastic and accommodating.
I did a girls' trip with a friend and we stayed for 5 nights. Great location relative to our activities. The hosts were very gracious and greeted us upon arrival with keys, information, a bottle of their own wine, a dozen organic eggs and access to their organic garden which we used for breakfasts! I will recommend this to all my friends and will definitely use again if in the area. Thank you Blake and Anita for such wonderful accomodations!
We stayed here for 5 nights when in town for a wedding. We weren't able to spend as much time just hanging out here as we would have liked as we spent most of our time in town or at wineries, so we never got a chance to eat the fresh eggs or really relax in the back. But we did enjoy the wine! We mostly drove to and from town, though we did run several times from the house and found the area to be so wonderful to run through. The backyard is fantastic and we moseyed through it every day to talk to the chickens. The inside isn't fancy, but it was plenty of room for 2 couples! It was an added benefit to use the washer and dryer since we were on a long vacation. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and while it was our first visit to Healdsburg, I think (hope!) we'll be back!
I decided to attend Wineroad Barrel tasting for my Birthday this year. I rented this home from Blake and his wife for a group of 6 people. We spoke over the phone numerous times weeks before my arrival. Upon arrival there were fresh flowers from their garden all over the home. Fresh organically farmed eggs waiting in the kitchen, and a bottle of their homemade wine from their beautiful backyard already chilled and waiting for our arrival. The home felt comfortable and welcoming. My guests were blown away at the set up they provided. We had a BBQ with their grill (charcoal already provided for us) and danced until dawn in the spacious backyard. It was such an amazing experience. I would most definitely stay here again hands down. They truly made my birthday weekend special and memorable.
Overall, we were very happy with this rental. The house was not fancy, but was clean and quite sufficient for our needs. Two bathrooms would have been better, but for the price we did fine with one. The backyard was bigger than I expected with fruit trees, grape vines, flowers, and vegetables. The location is perfect if you like Healdsburg and northern Sonoma County wine country. The laundry room was apparently locked the whole time we were there, but we did not ask for it to be unlocked. The vineyard across the street was harvested during the night with loud equipment the last night of our stay, but it was not too bothersome and added to the ambiance of harvest season - plus, it's unlikely to happen very often.
Thank you Blake and Anita for your warm hospitality for our family of four plus doggie. The house is wonderfully located on a quiet street very near the river entrance for playing at the beach and for a day of kayaking. We especially enjoyed the garden and delicious fresh eggs! Our dog, Akira, really enjoyed watching those chickens! We'll be back!
Blake and Anita, Thank you so much for your hospitality. I can't say enough good things about our stay in the Garden House. It started with leaving us with one your bottles of grenache made from the grapes on the property. It was delicious. Then you left us a dozen eggs from the chickens in the back. We used them to make some omelets which were exquisite. Then you left us some lettuce from your garden. Again, something exceptional. See the pattern here, a really devoted host dedicated to presenting a special experience for the guests.
As for the house itself, the pictures don't really do it justice. It's not necessarily fancy but very well appointed. In fact, every room had fresh flowers from their garden. It was exceptionally clean with everything you need. The patio and the outside spaces are beautiful and the beds are firm. Whenever we needed anything, Blake and Anita responded immediately.
The place is on the outskirts of Healdsburg. The main plaza is within easy walking distance. But some of the roads are busy and without sidewalks so I wouldn't necessarily recommend walking downtown after sunset. In the car, everything in Healdsburg is only a couple minutes away.
Otherwise, it is very quiet and serene (oh I should mention the chickens were a bit noisy mid morning but nothing at all bothersome for us and don't worry there are no roosters). Beyond Healdsburg, the place is centrally located to hundreds of wineries in Sonoma County.
Highly, highly recommended and we hope to return.
