MONTEFREDDO DI SOPRA SLEEPS 11 PEOPLE
This beautiful country villa is a perfect location for a family holiday and to gather some friends in this romantic and charming corner of Tuscany.
Set on a smooth hill , it has a 360° view, overlooking the medieval castle of Fighine, the skyline of Città della Pieve, Mount Cetona and the Chiana valley.
Hidden at the end of a private, winding dirt road that gently climbs the hill, Montefreddo di Sopra offers a secluded and exclusive location.
The original part of the house is a former Medieval watch tower built by the Republic of Siena to control the borderland with the State of the Pope. In the century a farmhouse has been adjoined to the tower.
This villa has been restored and decorated in 2009 by the Bologna family and features an armonius blend of traditional and contemporary amenities.

The Bologna family moved in the area in 1780 after purchasing a large amount of territory in the south part of the Granduchy of Tuscany. Since then they have been living in the area, managing the farming estates.
In the centuries the large property has been divided within the different brothers in smaller farming estates. Tenuta Montefreddo is one of the farming estates and it is now managed by Francesco Bologna, who is proud to continue the work of his ancestors. he now lives in the estate with his wife Olivia and their children.
Francesco e Olivia Bologna purchased this villa in 1780
Francesco and his family are deeply linked to this land that offers every day the magnificent exhibition of Nature. Here they have their roots and their memories and it was quite natural for them to choose to restore the estate farmsteads, offering the possibility to others to come and stay here, enjoying the beauty of the place.
Tenuta Montefreddo is a secluded and exclusive location with marvellous hilltop view. The silence, the atmosphere, the breeze.... all will all contribute to relax your mind and spirit.
The proximity to most renowed Tuscany hilltop towns such as Montepulciano, Montalcino, Arezzo, Cortona, and Orvieto to mention a few makes it a perfect location to combine leisure and culture. Siena, Florence and Rome are easy day trips by catching the train from the nearby station of Chiusi.
The house is elegantly furnished and each detail will contribute to make you feel at home.
Everybody at the estate will do his best to make your holiday unfortgetable and unique.
An experienced tour guide of the territory will welcome you and will help you to get acquainted with the area. For those seeking to visit the hil top town of the area, knowing their history and learning about their monuments, she will provide the necessary information. She will also suggest the wineries for wine tastings, organize cooking classes, art and photography courses (also for children), or yoga classes with professionals.
Nico, the house keeper, will make sure everything is ready at the house for the arrival, looking after every detail, and preparing the welcome breakfast basket with the delicacies of the territory
During the week, she will come every day for housekeeping, delivering grocery shopping upon request.
A home chef is available upon request to cook during the week or just to prepare a dinner for a special occasion.
Last and certainly not least, at the villa you will find our olive oil produced exclusively with the olives grown in our farming estate.
The photos don't capture the beauty of this picturesque setting. Villa Montefreddo sits at the end of a long country road and overlooks a valley in the Tuscan countryside. The stone villa with the accompanying apartment was the perfect size for our party of 10. It was very clean and well-maintained. The kitchen was large enough so that we all could pitch in with the cooking and there were plenty of couches and chairs inside and out to enjoy a glass of wine and a good book. The location was perfect for day trips to Orvieto, Assisi, Montepulciano, Siena and Chiusi. Olivia and Francesco were the perfect hosts. They provided us with tips of local favorites for dining and a Olivia was gracious enough to give us a historical tour of Montepulciano.
It was a perfect vacation and I would highly recommend this property.
I loved everything of my stay in this wonderful place! And I enjoyed every second of it. The Villa is beautifully fornitured, the view is really breathtaking. Everything was set with love and care. The place is also near to the beautiful art cities of Tuscany and Umbria (Siena, Florence, Perugia, Montepulciano, Orvieto). My friends and I also experienced a wonderful guided tour of Montepulciano with Olivia, the beautiful young lady running the Villa.
Montefreddo Di Sopra is an absolute paradise! We will be returning to the property for the 3rd time in October and wish we didn't have to leave. The hospitality of Olivia and Francesco is the ultimate and nothing is too much bother. A group of us originally stayed in 2011 the house accommodates for large families with plenty of areas to relax in quiet or come together for a meals.
The pool in summer is fantastic for getting your summer tan while enjoying the view. We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Tuscany as it is a great base to enjoy day trips from. Approximately an hour drive to Sienna & Florence, and 15min drive to Chiusi Train station (1.45 train to Rome & Car hire across from train station) and of course San Casciano Dei Bagni only a short drive up the hill where you can enjoy some of the most amazing sunsets and aperitivo....but really with views and a house like this there is no need to go anywhere else. We are looking forward to our return in October but know that it won't be our last. I highly recommend booking your next vacation here.
My husband and I stayed for 3 nights at Acerona Countryhouses. We had a great rapport with the owner, Olivia, from the first exchange of emails. When we arrived, we were mesmerised by the beauty of the landscape surrounding Acerona, and the farmhouse itself. It has been beautifully renovated, preserving its history.
The apartment we stayed in was large, airy, light, very clean, with a fully equipped kitchen. There is a lovely terrace where we ate breakfast and dinner looking out to the Tuscany hills.
We also enjoyed Olivia's tips - she has a lot of suggestions, as she told us she had worked as a tourist guide. At the same time, we had a lot of privacy.
We wished we had stayed longer, and we will definitely plan to stay there again for a week or so. It's the perfect place for a relaxing holiday, within easy reach of many lovely Tuscan towns and villages.
Don't leave without purchasing Acerona farm's own olive oil!
Thank you very much, Olivia!
My family of 4 (2 children aged 10 and 12) along with my sister stayed at this beautiful Villa for a week. The owners have successfully outfitted this home with all that travellers would need to make it the perfect 'home away from home'-in fact better than home! The adults each had a room with an ensuite while the children also had their own room and shared a very large bathroom.
The kitchen was very pleasant to cook in and take our meals. We even booked a cooking lesson which all of us enjoyed.
The pool area is set away from the home but with magnificent views. There are plenty of deck chairs, a shower and even a covered patio to take a break from the sun.
We were able to make several day trips to major tourist towns like Siena and San Gimignano, but nearby San Casciano dei Bagni and Pieve are equally interesting. Our next visit would be spent touring these smaller local villages and spending more time at the Villa itself by the pool, making use of the many patios and sitting areas the house has to offer. The children were happy improving their ping pong skills!
The owners are extremely welcoming and very knowledgeable about the area. We look forward to coming back!
Our property is close to the enchanting medieval hamlet of San Casciano dei Bagni, in the province of Siena, in that unspoiled corner of Tuscany near Umbria and Lazio.
The area was well known by the Etruscans and the Romans for its warm water springs and the beauty of the landscape.
The medieval village is built around the neo-gothic Bologna castle, the XII century church of San Leonardo and Cassiano and its original bell tower. The narrow and winding streets of the village often opens in to beautiful sceneries, showing an enchanted landscape and views on the Cetona mountain and on the Amiata mountain (the sacred mountain of the Etruscans).
As in most Italians villages, the heart is the main square that has a beautiful view on the Rigo Valley. Although San Casciano is a small and quite place, it offers shops and services for almost every need.
Only 14 km from the property is the little town of Città della Pieve, with its magnificent Cathedral that treasures work from 'Il Perugino', the master of Raffaello. Here are also nice and elegant restaurant.
Piazze, only 4 km from the property, is a village built along the street that leads to San Casciano dei Bagni. Is where the daily shopping may be done at the small supermarket and butcher .
There is a gas station, an ATM machine and some good restaurants or pizzeria.
