If you're looking to avoid the high rise condos and stay at a private, relaxing, charming guest house in beautiful surroundings, this is the place for you. The hosts live on the property next door, and go out of their way to insure that you have an enjoyable stay. You're treated more like friends than tenants. Convenient access to Sanibel and Captiva restaurants and attractions, and a short distance to Bowman's Beach for great shelling and sunsets.
It may be spring in Ohio, but we miss our favorite place on Sanibel. This guesthouse, hidden on a lush corner across from Bowman's Beach, was the idyllic location for a relaxing visit to the island.
It was only a few minutes from everything we like to do. We loved riding our bikes to Sunset Grill for delicious breakfasts, then pedaling to Bowman's Beach for afternoons of hunting shells, watching the dolphin, and soaking up the sun. Many evenings we packed a picnic and walked back to the beach to see the beautiful sunsets.
Because the guesthouse (with its wonderful owner) was located on the peaceful west end of the island, we felt as if we were living in paradise, not staying at a tourist destination. When we did want to go to the theater, the golf course, the art show, or the refuge, we didn't have to get tangled up in island traffic. Matter-of-fact, we could actually pick up a lot of groceries & supplies at the Santiva General Store right down the road. We also had a lot of fun watching the Super Bowl with friends at the popular Doc Ford's restaurant, which is really close to the guesthouse.
We would definitely recommend this charming rental to other island lovers. It has everything you need and is located in the perfect place.
I can't believe I'm saying this -- but I'm looking forward to winter and our next visit to this tropical treasure:)
We stayed at the Sanibel Guest House from Dec 30, 2013- Jan31, 2014. Our host was amazing! We were greeted with warmth and friendliness from the very start. The lodgings were just exactly how they were pictured and described online. Downstairs where the bedroom and bath were was cozy and cool. We were always well rested and refreshed. Upstairs in the living/kitchen area we had plenty of space, lots of utensils (we love to bake!!) and every amenity we could ask for! A daily newspaper was always at our door!! It was like staying with an old friend. We were treated several times to cookies, amazing homemade bread and the best Minestrone Soup ever, not to mention great conversation. Our host was knowledgable with the island and with surrounding area activities as well. Since we just retired, it was the absolute best way to wind down and learn how to spend the rest of our life. Thank you so very much.

Our stay here was exactly what we were looking for: a short bike ride to the beach, every amenity you could ask for including a kitchen, washer-dryer and (my favorite) outdoor shower, and a lovely host who was super helpful and even made us a delicious key lime pie! We had a wonderful time and as we approach almost a year since our visit I am fondly reminiscing. I highly recommend a stay here. Thanks again to our host!
Upon arrival, we were greeted by our host and found a lovely welcome basket inside filled with wine, cheese, crackers, chocolate and nuts. The guest house was perfect for our needs: clean, well-maintained and charming, just as described and pictured in the listing. We were able to relax, sleep in, cook meals in the well-equipped kitchen, and plan each day's adventure in this island paradise.
We spent time on all of the island's public beaches -- Bowman's Beach, Blind Pass, Tarpon Bay, Algiers and the Lighthouse Beach at the east end of the island, which is very picturesque and offers access to both the gulf and the bay -- and enjoyed basking in the sun, collecting shells and being awed by the glorious sunsets.
Our tram tour of the Ding Darling Wildlife Preserve, as well as our visit to its educational center, was so interesting and eye-opening as to the importance of preserving our natural resources and protecting our wildlife. The Shell Museum was equally interesting and informative. The Shell Festival and the Lion's Club Craft Festival were both fun events, as was checking out some of the island's many shops. We enjoyed eating at the Sunset Grill, The Island Cow, and the Sanibel Café, with one indulgent visit to the Dairy Queen.
We found a warm welcome and inspiring worship experiences at the Sanibel Community Church, especially the Sunday messages given by Dr. Darryl Donovan as well as his Thursday noon Bible study.
To our host: We can't thank you enough for the privilege of spending the month of March in your wonderful guest house which felt like a cozy tree-house to us. You were so attentive to all of our needs, while giving us space to just enjoy. It was lovely visiting with you on the deck, and learning about your interesting life experiences. The key lime pie was a delicious bonus! There are no words to express how important and precious this time in Sanibel was to us, and we thank you for making it possible.
In this photoshop world, it was wonderful to discover that this amazing guesthouse is exactly how it appears in the pictures. Not only does it have everything on the list and more, it also comes with an awesome hostess! The owner quickly made us feel at home – in what we like to call “Paradise.”
We really enjoyed sitting on the elevated deck surrounded by the beautiful tropical plants. And, for northerners like us, that outdoor shower was definitely a special treat. We loved staying at this charming guesthouse so much we are going back next year. Already counting the days…
