|Minimum Stay||3 - 7 nights|
Location, Location, Location! That is why you want to rent this popular property. It is located just 5.5 miles from Cook's Corner, 6 miles from downtown Brunswick. 15 minutes to Freeport and 30 minutes to Portland. But you may just want to stay at this incredible home and enjoy the views! Quahog Bay is a wonderful spot, enjoy the deep water dock which you can swim or kayak from. Cook lobsters on the deck. Enjoy spectacular sunrises into the many windows in this magnificent home. Every bedroom has a view of the water.
The Port House has a lovely wrap around porch and wonderful yard for the kids to play in. We also have a fire pit (bring your own camp wood) for making the perfect s'mores! We supply two 2 person and two single kayaks, you may also bring your own boat and tie up to the 24' deep water dock. Jumping and swimming right from the dock are a must, and no need to worry, even at low tide the water is 9 feet deep!
We only rent Saturday-Saturday, with a one week minimum, during the summer season. During our off season though we will consider shorter rentals, with a three night minimum.
The Port House is just 50 feet off the water, We have another home on the property that is sometimes available for larger groups, but is used by us at other times ensuring your privacy while here. The other house, Starboard House is located a bit further back on the property, but still has amazing water views. Both homes are beautifully appointed!
Sarah and I have three children who we are very proud of. We live in Maine year round. I rent Snowmobiles in the winter through our business Northeast Snowmobile Rentals. We have three locations, two in inland Maine, and one on New Hampshire. I enjoy running a marathon each year and Sarah tries to keep up with me. We have a Scottish Terrier.
Terry and Sarah MacGillivray purchased this house in 2011
We hope to retire to this water front home in 2020 when our youngest graduates from school. We have 15 years experience with weekly rentals. We own the Robinhood Inn on Bailey Island, which we have rented successfully for 15 years. We have learned what our guests want and do not want in a weekly rental. We often stay in other rentals when we travel around the US.
There are no steps from the parking lot to the king bedroom with private bath, thanks to a wooden ramp that connects to the wrap around porch. The home is 50 feet off the ocean. Nice yard with fire pit and room for the kids to run around. 24' new clean dock with kayaks.
This was the second property I booked through VRBO and have yet to be disappointed. I researched a number of places for our trip to Portland, ME and this was on the top of our list based on the pictures. I emailed Terry and Sarah, and they were great in responding to my numerous questions. We (myself, my wife, 2 kids under 3, and another couple with a toddler) pleasantly surprised the rental offered two pack n' plays for the kids which came in handy.
When we got there, the pictures were spot on. The view of water was fantastic, and the house was perfect for our group. It was family friendly, with a great kitchen for us to make breakfast. It also had a nice bar area downstairs where we can hang out and have drinks. There was also a booklet with very useful information that we referenced throughout the trip (it's the little things that make a difference).
Throughout the stay, Terry and Sarah answered our numerous questions, including pointing us to a few places where we could get fresh lobster. We ended up going to a location they recommended, and when we brought it back, Terry offered to cook it for us! He had guests over, but he still went out of his way to help us out. That was not necessary, but very much appreciated! It was by far the best lobster we've ever had. They also have a dock with kayaks and canoes for use, but we didn't use it because it was a bit chilly, however the option is very nice.
Shortly after we returned back home, Terry and Sarah mailed us our deposit back. Just great service all around. I highly recommend this place if you want to stay near Portland. It is about a 45 min drive into town, but the place is well worth it.
We brought the "kids" and grandkids in to Harborgate for a family week. We came from Nevada, Oregon, Texas and Florida. Fifteen souls in all, we had teenagers on down to toddlers and a three-month-old. We could not have made a better selection. The families with kids four and down occupied the upper house, which would have been a great rental in itself. The other adults and teenagers stayed in the main house, where most of the socializing and dining took place. The setting was sublime and the kayaks were put to good use each day. Nearby Popham Beach was a big hit with the families, and the kids loved roasting marshmallows at the fire ring in the evening. The houses were well stocked with games, puzzles and DVDs. Even a high wind and rain event was welcome, as we were together and dry in such a great place. The fresh seafood available locally was plentiful and we inhaled it all week. A farmer's market in Brunswick provided bounteous fruit and produce. Terry was a great host even though he went on vacation after checking us in. The property really runs itself because he's taken such care in equipping and maintaining it. In short, you cannot put a price on the memories we made as a family in this magical place. Thanks, Terry and Sarah; we are saving up now for a return visit.
Our three generation, 15 person family enjoyed a fabulous reunion at the two gorgeous Harborgate houses. Plenty of hang out space, fully equipped kitchens, s'mores in the fire pit, space for the kids to run around outside, and a superb waterfront private dock with two kayaks. We rented paddle boards from Seaspray Kayaking which were a big hit.
On days when we could tear ourselves away from Harborgate, we took trips to....
Maine Maritime Museum, Popham Beach, Lucky Catch Lobster Boat, Harpswell hiking trails,
Long Shot Miniature Golf, and the Maine Botanical Gardens. Couldn't fit the Seadogs in this year. Have already booked for 2015.
The property was clean and well maintained. The houses have everything needed, plenty of dishes, glasses, silverware, pots, pans, even sharp knives. The photos are nice but even better in person.
The owners answered any questions right away and a pleasure to deal with. The kayaks got used at least once everyday. With the 2 houses we had a "quite" house and a "loud" house, it was perfect. We had a great time having our family reunion here this year and it was voted best one yet!!!
Just returned from our family Christmas gathering celebrated at Harborgate. We had a great time and really loved the property. Terry really went out of his way and put up a live tree and other Christmas decorations for us!!! LOVED IT! What a treat! Thank you Terry for such a memorable time - from our whole family. Loved your place and loved the location. Beautiful sunrises! Great memories!
This property is beautiful! 8 adults ranging in age 21 to 56 enjoyed this property and location.
The home is very spacious, modern and clean. The hammock and kayaks were a hit. Only thing missing is a fire pit for s'mores. (maybe not allowed) Neighborhood is very quiet.
We arrived an hour early and the property was ready. Terry greeted us and gave a tour of the house and explained how things work.
Terry was VERY helpful with great recommendations!
We are located on an island in Harpswell, Maine, connected to the mainland by bridge. The closest town in Brunswick. The entire area is beautiful, but the fact that the home is right on the water is a plus! Having a dock is another added bonus. Bring your own boat, or just borrow our small row boat and kayaks and explore the wonderful coves in the area. There is a nesting pair of bald eagles on a nearby island that love doing shows for us while we are out paddling, I'm sure you won't miss them. In addition to boat, there are wonderful nature hikes that would be suitable for the whole family. Restaurants and shopping may be found in Brunswick, Bath and Freeport...the closest of the towns, but a day spent explore the other towns that line Route 1 is another must! Then come back, pick up some lobster caught fresh that day and steam them in the lobster cooker on the deck and watch the boats coming in! Its what we do in Maine.....The way life should be!
