Lovely woodsy cabin in serene setting

  • 5 of 5
With wood interior and high, open-beam ceiling with sky lights and plenty of windows and screened in porch, this house has much charm in serene, quiet, woodsy setting with access to lovely lake for swimming and kayaking. House is immaculate with several new appliances, nicely decorated and perfectly located with private access to lake front. Although no tv, it was not missed with easy wifi internet, DVD player, books and board games to keep us busy when not out exploring the area. 10-15 minutes up road from Camden and Rockland with small general store just 5 mins; hiking trails nearby at Camden Hills with spectacular views. Property manager is local and was very helpful with questions about house/area. If we had to find any cons, they would be no dishwasher (which we actually did not miss), and the 1 mile narrow and somewhat steep road leading down to the cabin from the main road, a drawback when setting off for a bike ride but also what makes its quiet location attractive. We loved this house!

Love those loons

  • 5 of 5
You can see the pond from the deck. Lovely place to read a book. Kayaking was fun, too (2 come with the cottage). From the deck we watched a baby loon with its parents that hung out close by every day - and learned something about loons.

Pros: Cottage in beautiful condition. Nice screened in porch for the evening. Only had to call the manager once with a question, and he answered the phone right away. Close to Camden/Lincolnville/Rockland area. Little general store (2-3 miles away) makes nice sandwiches. There were many trees, so cottage was always cool (didn't have to use the provided box fans). And surprisingly few bugs outside. There's a small DVD collection and lots of books (mostly mysteries).

Cons: No internet and poor cell service - of course this might be a Pro for some people. There is free internet at the Camden public library.
Driveway is steep - if you don't have 4WD or AWD, you have to park at the the top of the driveway and walk about 50 feet to the cottage.

What did we learn about loons? Baby loons ride piggy-back on their parents when small. Pretty cool.
