Fascinating jungle experience in the middle of the Caribbean rainforest of Costa Rica! Our distinguished lodge on 16+ acres of private property is situated in the Gandoca Manzanillo wildlife refuge, with the beautiful Caribbean sea less then a mile away. You will stay in our comfortable, fully equipped house on stilts.

Experience the jungle like never before. Have the monkeys waiting outside your window as you wake up to the sounds of tropical birds singing (more then 100 species counted on our property). There are sloth’s, nosebears, other mammals, frogs, and so much more…

Let comfort surround you while you are relaxing in the Costa Rican rain forest, drinking a good bottle of wine on your jungle porch. Have a massage, walk our private nature tracks or relax at the creek that runs through the property. Go on one of the many excursions we can arrange for you. Visit the picture perfect & quiet Caribbean beaches just a few minutes away! Venture into Cahuita National park or the Gandoca Manzanillo wildlife refuge. Enjoy a night out in the bustling beach town of Puerto Viejo (9 miles away). But most of all look forward to waking up in a jungle paradise that seems to be created especially for you.

About Marilyn and John

El Árbol (the tree) is the creation of Jan Hein (designer and creator of the lodge) and Marjolein (counselor and international marketer) from the Netherlands. We want to offer our guests comfort while at the same time they are being totally immerged in nature. The idea is to offer guests a pure, private and personal experience. We are nature lovers ourselves and we would like to show you and your loved ones nature as it can still be found on this planet. Enjoy nature without compromising on comfort. We believe that the natural beauty in the lay of the land is best left as it is, especially if one of your goals is seeing animals. This theory is proven by the abundant wildlife that visits our 16+ acre property every day. We continue to let nature work her magic. Landscaping is done only around the house and common area’s. We have a natural path trough our rainforest that we keep clean and accessible; the rest of the jungle is untouched. Outdoor lighting is romantic, but restricted to what is necessary for orientation, safety & security. El Árbol philosophy: Our philosophy is to create a unique and personalized jungle experience in the midst of complete comfort. Feel the mental and physical wellbeing that nature provides. We also place extra emphasis on being eco friendly and globally conscious. You as our guest take part in this process as 5% of your lodging fees will be donated to local charities.

What makes this lodge unique

Our house is beautiful and interestingly designed. It is built on poles so you have the feeling you stay among the trees. It has round shapes, rich colors and exiting features. The house has its own Jacuzzi from which you can see the jungle and it’s wildlife. The house has a fully equipped kitchen, safe deposit box and beds with the best orthopedic mattresses. Because of its design and the protection from the rainforest's canopy the house has a comfortable cool climate. Air conditionig is available too. The house is fully screened to keep insects out, although it would amaze you how many days and nights you will sit outside on your porch without being bothered by any of these little creatures and fully enjoy the sounds of the jungle. You can make use of yoga, massage on the privacy of your own porch.

This place is so beautiful and very private. My boyfriend and I went there for 3 days whilst travelling around Costa Rica and it was by far the best place we stayed. Very romantic and we saw the most amazing wildlife around the house. Marilyn and John who own the property are very helpful and gave us tips where to go in the village. The house itself was beautifully done and had everything you need and more. We loved the house so much, we didn't want to leave in the evenings and chose to eat "at home". Had to pinch ourselves sometimes that we were there - pure paradise. Would we recommend it? Absolutely.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway
