THE COACHMAN'S HOUSE - COSY 2ND FLOOR APARTMENT

Amboise Apartment Rental Photos and Description

1 bedroom, 1 full bathroom, Sleeps 2

You will be charmed by this tastefully decorated 1 bedroom apartment (located on the 2nd floor of the townhouse, there is one apartment per floor). We have taken a lot of time and effort in restoring this 18thC townhouse, combining old and new styles for (what we believe is) a tasteful result. We have paid particular attention to the comfort of our guests when choosing such essential elements as the beds and furnitures.

Located on a quiet portion of the pedestrianized main street (rue Nationale). Within easy walking distance from everything that makes Amboise an excellent holiday town.

A bit of history: Rue Nationale, now a pedestrian street full of charming shops and spots for eating/drinking, was in former days the road that lead away from town (the gate in the medieval ramparts is still there, now with a clock and called the “belfry”—look to the left as you exit the house). In the eighteenth century, the stage coaches for Tours and points beyond left from the house next door, and our house was the lay-over accommodations for the coachmen. The livery for horses and coaches was a bit farther down the street, in the courtyard behind the present-day cinema. And whereas the roughnecks of yesteryear probably slept on straw pallets, and with no privacy, we now invite you to enjoy your own private space, with confortable bedding and full modern amenities.

- Historical sites: 13th C St Denis church, Royal Amboise castle, home to François 1er and other kings of France, the Clos Lucé, last residence of Leonardo da Vinci and historical old town center streets.

- Gourmet restaurants, excellent weekly open air Market on the banks of the Loire, featuring local specialities: Cheeses, wines, meats and local produce.

- Bakery, newsagent, supermarket (open 7am-10pm) Mon-Sat, delicatessens, boutiques.

During the summer months, the town is a hive of activity: night-time open air Markets, street performers, local artists exhibitions, open air swimming pool on the Ile d'or nearby.

A short drive will take you to: Chenonceau castle, Chambord castle... (all main Loire valley castles).

LOCATION, LOCATION!

The Apartment was as described online, perfect for a couple. All facilities were working and in good order. Apartment was clean & well maintained. Pascale was very prompt with replying to emails and helpful with any questions. A folder was provided with extra information along with suggested tourist brochures. We would have no problem recommending this apartment to friends or family. We enjoyed visiting chateaux, dining out at local restaurants, driving on quiet backroads to small villages, wandering through Amboise's markets and being able to purchase our groceries at the nearby shops like the locals whilst practising our French.

This is an exquisite property centrally located in Amboise. An immaculate apartment, it has everything you need for a stay in the area and is in close proximity to the carrefour, boulangerie, shops and restaurants. Ideal for several days' stay in Amboise...quiet and relaxing after sightseeing in the area. A perfect opportunity to feel like a "local"!

THE BEST EVER!

  • 5 of 5
This was one of our best vacation experiences. The location was perfect, the apartment was absolutely gorgeous. Our hostess, Pascale, was very welcoming (even picked us up from the train station!) and took her time showing us around the apartment. A bottle of cold champagne awaited us and the week we spent in Amboise will be one of our favourite travel memories. We can't say enough good things about this property.

WE FELT LIKE LOCALS!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I spent just over a week here, late last summer, and weren't disappointed, having stayed in hotels in Amboise previously. Being self-catering in this apartment was a wonderful alternative to staying in a hotel and with its central location, we felt just like locals from the moment we arrived. Pascale was extremely helpful too, in response to our questions and requests.
The open-plan living space is clean, modern and well-equipped. Parking nearby wasn't a problem, when staying in early-mid Sept. We enjoyed buying groceries at the Friday/Sunday produce markets (along the riverside) and you can find all else you'll need from the many local patisseries, greengrocers, delis and supermarkets. Top 'must-dos' in the region, for us at least, were: 1. Zooparc Beauval (take a day - as it's vast!) 2. A long stroll, or cycle ride, around the perimeter of l'Ile d'Or (the island that sits in the middle of the Loire, reached from the bridge to Amboise) 3. Le Chateau & les Jardins de la Chatonniere (a lesser-known, but no-less beautiful tranquil garden, with wonderful walks - take a picnic !). All in all a great base to explore from.

CHARMING AND PERFECT!!

  • 5 of 5
I had the privilage of staying in two of Pascale's lovely apartments during my three week stay. Words cannot describe what a wonderful experience I had. Both apartments were beautifully decorated, incredibly clean, and a perfect locaton in this charming village. Rue National is the place to be in Amboise.... close to the boulangerie, the butcher, the pasta and cheese shop, the restaurants. Pascale thought of everything to make a visitor comfortable and well taken care. She and her husband were so helpful , gracious and charming. The farmers markets on Friday and Sunday are a short walk away near the river. The lovely chateau at the end of Rue National, the Loire River and Valley and a short drive to France's most beautiful chateaux, added to the incredible charm of Amboise. I have been home less than a week and my heart is still in Amboise, in my lovely Coachman apartment. Pascale, thank you for your kindness and caring.

VERY COMFORTABLE, MODERN APARTMENT IN AN EXCELLENT LOCATION

  • 5 of 5
We stayed a week here in Amboise and owner Pascale has done an excellent job at creating a welcoming place in the centre of the old part of town. It is on a pedestrian way, quiet yet handy to shops, interesting sites and free parking can be found very close by. There are many well marked bike routes through the countryside without a lot of traffic and some of the closer chateaux can be visited this way. And, as the local train is easy to use to go to interesting sites further away, we found that we rarely used the car while in Amboise There are many good dining options and we highly recommend Chez Bruno and l'Epicerie located near the Chateau as well as the Lion d'Or . Pascale was a gracious and helpful hostess who also helped us with our French. We would highly recommend staying at this 2nd floor apartment ( especially if you enjoy a tub) or the 1st floor floor apartment which we have also seen and is as comfortable.. Our visit was very enjoyable. Lynda and Fred Harris. Vancouver Canada
